Cats are one of the most pound-for-pound ferocious animals. Anytime my dog wants to try and intimidate one, I pull her away: "That not a prey, baby; That's a predator."

A cat is not easy prey like a chicken. A cats claws can seriously hurt and their reflexes are quicker than any fox.

That may be true but a Cats claws are nowhere near lethal and their Bite Force in Pounds per Square Inch is incomparable to a Fox. A cat's true weapon is intimidation. If that fails it's gone...

The paw swipes of FELINES are overrated.They do help keep opponents at bay if their opponents are not determined to kill them and is not fully invested in the fight. But the paw swipes of FELINES are not enough to keep a relentless opponent at bay. I have seen DOGOS and PITBULLS totally bypass a FELINE'S paw swipe and take a few scratches to get a good bite on the FELINE and then start shaking the FELINE violently. Because when it comes to all predators with or without sharp claws, the final killing always comes down to the good bite of the jaws on the vulnerable part of their opponents neck. And that is something that both CANINES and FELINES are capable of doing. FELINES have the initial advantage because they have sharper claws, but the final killing always comes down to the JAWS.

Clearly this fox preys on cats and was looking for his next meal. This cat is likely just old enough to defend itself and only because of the fact that it was on a roof and able to keep the Fox from circling him. The Fox almost certainly has eaten younger cats and kittens in the area. Suburban, ex-urban, and urban coyotes and foxes are literally starting to specialize in preying on cats and small dogs. This behavior is becoming so prevalent that they are starting to consider classifying urban and suburban coyotes as a splinter group from the species since they have developed entirely different prey and hunting tactics from their rural cousins.

Sister had a tabby cat and a small rescue dog which was very active. One day she was sitting on the couch watching tv with the cat curled up asleep on the floor at her feet. Meanwhile the dog was tossing his hide chew up in the air and catching it as it landed. The chew landed in front of the cat, who without stirring slid out a paw over the chew. The dog whined and gurned but did not dare approach the cat.

The fox’s tactic was to lure the cat into a full forward defensive launch where it could then counter with it’s increased size and weight with a bite in a vulnerable and damaging way using the cat’s committed lighter weight momentum against itself. Cat was still tactically wayyyyy ahead of that fox’s cunning ploy. Felines are apex for a reason.

Yeah i had a Russian blue tom, he was the most charming handsome chad of a cat, but he was also 16lbs of pure muscle and a mean son of bitch to boot. Complete brawler didn't realy hunt prey. But he finnished every fight that came his way, more than once it was a fox.

Cat's fine, the fox wanted the eggs I put out in the garden but it couldn't get to them because the cat was guarding his normal route. Note that the fox is at least twice the size of the cat and the cat had nowhere to run if the fox went for it. Foxes are normally to clever to attack a cat.
