I have the fox and Evoc (half) pads. I use my Evoc pad when it’s just my bike and the Fox pad on days that I shuttle with my buddies. The evoc is definitely much nicer, especially the lining on the back, but I haven’t had any paint issues with the fox pad. As long as it isn’t loose and moving around a lot, it shouldn’t be an issue.

Just one of those things where you have to check pad fastening every couple weeks since the material can stretch. I've had the fox pad on the truck for a couple more weeks now and it's loosened up a bit. The EVOC is definitely more superior as far as build and quality goes, but doesn't backing feel fairly similar to the fox one? I know our full-size EVOC pad has a similar material and is a bit rough...but that pad is huge and barely fits the Sierra. - Sean

@@TheLoamWolf the backing on my Evoc pad is more of a microfiber material. It’s the half pad

The Fox Overland pad has microfiber and strap extenders. It’s almost exactly the same as the RaceFace T2 in features and price.

Different brand. But you are correct, that's why the Race Face (and Fox) is one of our top pads. -Sean

I bought some longer straps from Amazon for my ebikes. Super heavy duty for $12.00. That is the only gate cover I've tried or owned.

I have this pad in New Zealand on a smaller pick up truck 🛻. It’s lasted very well and can take lots of bikes. For. Ebikes just get a longer strap.

Here is my issue with all tailgate pads. I drive a GMC AT4 with the multipro tailgate. The pad basically makes the tailgate useless. it blocks the camera and stops all folding. I think they need to make a tailgate pad that has a removable section so that you can still fold the tailgate when you need to, and that doesn't block the rear cameras. Maybe some strap system that can stay in place which has attachments so that you can install the pad and remove it without removing the straps because frankly they are a PITA to fish through the gap anyway. My raceface pad has basically hung in my garage since I got this truck because I got sick of installing and uninstalling it all the time.

In Australia as that would be setup with 6 bikes it would be illegal. The bike wheels cover the rear lights and would be dangerous in an emergency braking and turning signals . Also the bikes would cover rear number / licence plate and would be fined for that.

That's quite unfortunate, but it makes sense from a safety concern.

Definitely better out there.

DON’T BUY THIS PAD! Yeah its less expensive but if your making money selling crap you should stand behind it. We have had this Fox pad for under a year and the straps that hold the straps have torn off and now we only use the pad without straps! Which sucks. We contacted Fox and they would have nothing to do with us because we don’t have a receipt!

Doesn't sound good at all, backing like sandpaper, covers the reversing camera, straps, thin downtube protection, not good for e-bikes... it would be bottom of my list. EVOC, RaceFace and DAKINE all look better and not that much more expensive, would be good to review these in comparison.

We'll be comparing them at the end in a "roundtable" kind of discussion. It's better than a blanket, but yeah, better options out there. The EVOC also has a sandpaper like backing, unfortunately, and they even recommend wrapping the tailgate to use their pad. After we made the video, I did more thinking and if you are handy with a sewing machine, could easily pick up a microfiber fabric and sew it onto this pad for less than $15. At least alleviating one concern, could make your own straps too, but then is the savings worth the extra time and money to make it better. -Sean

6 bikes? How do you fit 7 people into the truck?
@TheLoamWolf2 жыл бұрын
Get real comfortable and close. 4 in the back, 3 up front. (Short shuttles only on access roads). My truck carries 6 people. So 6 bikes isn't a problem. If we are shuttling we will run driver rotation, so their bike stays with the truck. Sometimes we bring out multiple bikes for a couple riders if it's a film, photo day too. So there is valid reason/desire to fit as many bikes as we can. -Sean

E bikes are too heavy for these new thin metal tailgates
@TheLoamWolf2 жыл бұрын
Says who? We've had 6 ebikes hanging off the back for hours at a time and no issues, scratches, etc.
@dubblearr76222 жыл бұрын
Just a assumption. Had a friend damage his a-pillar and door trying to get a e bike on top of his brand new Mercedes with a roof rack. That bike was pretty heavy but my friend is weak af too. 😂
@TheLoamWolf2 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a fluke issue...but some definitely may be too heavy for a roof rack. I think ive got more bed damage from lifting bikes in, like the time Drew gouged the crap out of the side of my bed with a pedal from trying to lift an ebike in. 😑

It's too bad they use such cheap Velcro straps
@TheLoamWolf2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they are super bad on this pad, we put a couple of the EVOC straps on it now and a few Norco Bike straps (from packaging) to better hold bikes in place. All they have to do is fix two things and keep the pad the same price and it would be a steal.
