I-5 reopens after propane truck fire in Portland

All lanes of northbound Interstate 5 reopened Tuesday afternoon after a truck fire early Tuesday morning closed all northbound lanes.

Intentional? Of course not. Nobody who’s transporting hazmat without a permit intends to have an incident; but, occasionally they will, and they do. This was probably some fly by night transporting tanks in a closed trailer without permits or placards between Vancouver and Portland where there are no scales or inspection points between origin and destination. Hopefully, they’ll be able to pull some information on the driver and rig from the ODOT and WADOT cams in the area. Irresponsible commercial drivers like this make us all look bad and serve to tighten restrictions on all of us, making the profession less and less attractive.
