I just spent an hour watching my dog chase birds in my backyard while I fearfully sipped on ice tea. Actually you prevent crime by funding social services and training law enforce in deescalation tactics and community service. Also locking your doors and windows. That is the number one deterrent not guns. Most home invasions occur during the day when people are away at work.

The saddest part is those two criminals put that homeowner in a position to fear for his and his wife's lives and take a life. That will dwell in their souls for the rest of their lives. Regardless of whether the act was justified or not, the effect this has on normal humans with a conscience who do not have the propensity to be violent is immense. I pray for their peace.

People are totally fed up. Do you blame them? You can't even relax in your own home anymore. You can't go out for fear somebody's going to shoot you and steal your car. I don't even go to the carwash anymore because I had people approach me asking for money. I had a person pull over to my driveway while I was gardening. I thought he was lost and needed directions, nope, asking for money. A woman followed me in the HOme Depot parking lot as I was walking to the store, stopped , asking me for money. I rarely go out anymore, I have everything delivered to my house now.
