Your friend made a dangerous career choice, joining an organization with a long documented record of disrespect and abuse and violence toward marginalized folks. I would expect to be killed if I decided to work for folks who demonstrate by their actions that they don't respect other folks rights. At age 45 I lost my housing. Prior to that I never had any problems with police, and I behave the same respectful law-abiding way now but the police treat me as if I'm a completely different person. Some officers smile and follow their training to keep it friendly but they uniformly discriminate against me with their actions. My point is your friend underwent DPD indoctrination with his FTO and no matter how lovely your friend was in class as a police officer the prime directive was always to privilege the safety of DPD officers and always to cover the asses of DPD members... I suggest you take a look at how many times your friend filed reports about his colleagues' abuses, I can tell you the answer is ZERO, as it is for all DPD officers regardless of how supposedly lovely or mean the are, and the number of abuses is of course enormous, I experience first hand on an ongoing basis now that the police view me as homeless scum instead of a real person as they did during my first 45 years.

So yes, these are those who generally have no money for bail and means for an attorney! Yes, they typically are those who look for opportunities to commit these types of senseless, heinous violent crimes! Yes, they’re typically those who should be off the streets! These BRAVE men/women in uniform willingly and unselfishly go where they are needed most! Not to harass, but to protect. They hope and believe their presence will be a DETERRENT to those who wake up with crime on their mind to perpetrate against people who wake up with meaningful ways to provide for their families, become successful in life and teaching their children the same, on their mind. People are simply surviving day to day, just wanting to live a peaceful life! Police officers also wake up desiring to go back home safely to their loved ones each and every day. It is ludicrous to think they go looking for this kind of trouble!!! So I pray this angle positively impacts your perspective to see things differently than what you just expressed!

He didn’t have to get into this profession but he did. he already had his long career going in teacher but for some reason got into LE. That says a lot about his character!! This is the same PD whos officers laughed at a veteran who asked for assistance, and it took months to even recognise the officers did wrong and at no time were the officers told to personally apologise to the gentleman. Perhaps a rethink is needed regarding policing and how officers deal with the public and how officer safety is dealt with.
