What I don't understand. Veterans are so respected in the USA by the people but taken care of so badly by the government. People say 'thank you for your service' but that doesn't pay the bills and you can't eat or drink it. veterans put their lifes in danger for the country but after retirement thy are forced to live on the street. In Holland normally people don't say 'thank you for your service' but the government does take care of them.

A country to be protected, the soldiers Must be on their land, when others come to attack them! You don't go to the other side of the World to attack the others with one interest, and Only to steal what they have to offer in their lands,( like oil, gas, and so on..), etc..When they come back, and only if they come back(alive),, they are a Wrack,and the So "beloved Government",doesn't give a shit to none of them! America to its eternal shame is one of only two countries in the world to not give free healthcare, meaning even 3rd world countries give whatever healthcare they can give for free. Americans are too selfish to do so, you have people actually arguing against it saying I don't want my taxes to pay for somebody elses healthcare, there is this sense in America of not wanting to help other people via your taxes which is just incredibly selfish, Europe it is like this, we are all happy to contibute around 25% of our total yearly income to a big tax pot and we are also happy for people to take help from that tax pot, so in Europe ever area is covered from housing to dental and healthcare and also free childcare as well, every child gets 30 hours per week paid for out of this tax pot so my child gets nursery free 4 days per week meaning I can work those days and pay my share of taxes, she goes from 9-5 for free, we care about our fellow countrymen and want the best for us and also for them, what is the point in raising yourself up if all around you people are struggling to survive that is the most selfish and self centred narcissistic behaviour. Also we do not make our elderly people sell their house to pay for their care in their old age either, we allow an inheritance to be passed to their children and the state covers most of the social care costs, Watch Michael Moores documentary Sicko, it is truly shocking to see people in America forced to sell their homes and become homeless after 40 years in the same house ,to pay their medical bills, bills which are obscene in the first place in how much they charge, in America healthcare is a business and due to that it is inhumane in how it treats people, if you are rich and can afford it the healthcare is great, if you are poor and cannot then you will be allowed to die in pain and homeless and then your children will get hounded by debt collectors for your medical bills, Lastly to know which system works best, America is way behind Europe in its outcomes healthwise, and the life expectancy and quality of life is also much higher in Europe, America needs to become more humble and this show is good but the fact you need a show in the first place shows there is an issue, in Europe we do acts of charity in a humble way more discreetly to not make the recipient feel embarassed in any way, this feels intrusive into a mans life and whilst it is great, why do the companies which help feel the need to mention their name and brand throughout this show, it suggests people in America give to get good publicity and not because they have humble and pure hearts and just want to help out of the goodness of their heart and not as a PR stunt for their company.

I know, because i am a Belgian citizen also, and even here in Quebéc, i am very disappointed about the delay to get family Doctors, and for a specialist is even worse,for the last +2 years! I agree with all that you said and more, i've watched a lot of documentaries, as you,and also the news is shocking day by day, and yes my family live in Brazil🇧🇷 and there, is even much better,about health system, than in the US, etc,and i miss being with them,( my family), i miss ( East)Belgium,where i lived for half of my life,and my last Doctors in Luxembourg( which really cared a lot)!Where are you from? The dad was such a proud man when he mentioned her service, it is wrong that brave people who risk so much to give their Country service should be so poorly off, this was a really nice, proud family. The dad did a great job at bringing his daughter up, it is the governments fault she was forced to live like that, he can be proud she and those wonderful kids just made the best of it. The government needs to do more to help vets lead a good life after service. The military is like, "Well thank you for risking your life for our great country, go on run along good luck, you're gonna need it."

It seems you really have to save and invest in retirement funds whilst you are in the military - if you do aggressively then you should have hundreds of thousands for retirement after 15 or so years. I read that some frugal people save a little over a million. But it requires putting away most of your pay while the military pays for you on the inside. I'm no expert I've just been reading a lot, seems like this but I'm not a veteran.

I'm sorry if Imisunderstand, but how do veterans end up homeless (regardless of mental problems). Is it true there are no systems in place for veterans? Why do these people not receive benefits and a pension? What they truly deserve? A lot of people in the military choose to be because their finances force them to, and afterwards they are left to ttheir own devices?? Shame a tv station has to step in, wonderful though they are.

We criticize people for prioritizing something to eat, only for that day, over everything else - including saving that money for something bigger.
