I worked graveyard for 30 years and the hardest part was others not understanding that it doesn't mean you don't need sleep. People would assume you were available all day and wonder why you couldn't go somewhere at 5 pm. It's the same as asking someone to go out at 2 am when they have to be at work at 7.

I agree and disagree to your comment. It’s perfectly healthy to have a BALANCED amount of stress in your life, overall. If you include little to no stress in your life, you become contempt and lazy. When you experience TOO MUCH stress, you burn out and your health starts declining. When you start allowing yourself (yes, sleep deprivation is always a choice) to be deprived of sleep, continuously, overtime your body will suffer badly, with the possibility of permanent damage to your brain and body.

Working Night shifts for 6.7 years now 😉 basically no stress or very very minimal, my energy levels are amazing (not according to my own analysis, but I do testify with good and positive energy) not depressed, very thin and healthy; I take fruit and veggies to work the majority of the time, sleep good, wake up good. It all depends on your decision making and what you consume, mentally + physically. I ride my bike all the time and get a chance to see the Sun after I get out past 6am. I love my shift!..... but more than anything "scientific", I praise my God and my Lord for all things, blessings and lessons and I try my best to keep a clean Heart. He provides all that I need!!!!

I’m a RN who has been doing nights for 24 years. I’m 51, slim, in very good health. No issues at all. I walk at least 3 miles outside every day weather permitting as soon as I get home from work. I eat the exact same thing every night as I have figured out what is good for my body so I don’t gain weight and can stay awake no problem. I do not drink energy drinks, sodas, or eat sugary foods. Coffee and green tea and at least 30 oz of water.

Serious respect for night shift workers. I tried for 2 years felt like death all the time. Worked out hard, ate healthy, bought a sun light to mimic daylight, change computer monitor settings, black out curtains, etc. I even bought bose sleep buds to help with noises. NOTHING worked. What i have learned is there ARE people built for nights. "I" am not one of them. Mad respect for night workers for sure.

I was with you, as a fellow night owl, until you got to the end. While I've never worked in a job that had an overnight shift, 2am seems early to me. If left to my own devices, I'd go to sleep between 6-8 am. I haven't consistently gone to sleep as early as 2am since high school (in the nineties)! I try to force myself to go to sleep early, but all it takes is one night of allowing myself to stay up and I'm thrown off my schedule for weeks. I'm sure when I retire I'll be staying up way later than 2am.

Vamps are people that loves blood, and those that are turned by demonic transformation. They are as real as Christmas day. What you see in movies are full demons not any humanity left with demonic speed, strength, and intellegence(Because they been around for thousands of years). Sadly mike or Ana (The human) is taken over fully and are imprisoned in their own bodies, the walking dead. Their are many today that are willing to give up all their soul, just to be like Edward on twilight, or Damion on Vampire diaries. Garlic won't work, but jesus will, because you are fighting demons or Daemons not people.

Night Shift is only an issue if you're constantly shifting times from Night to Days or Swing, but if it's just your steady shift, you adjust over time. I've been working nights a majority of my working life and the only time it's been an issue is when I was having to do other types of shifts or working multiple other job times. If you're working just straight nights, issues are fairly minimal to non-existent; going to the gym is not so bad for me because a 24 hour one is right next to my job and I just go right after work and just before I go home.

🦉Lifelong night owl here. I’m skinny but I don’t handle large amounts of refined carbs well. I definitely feel better on a high fat diet. Never thought my schedule could be the problem. I love the peace and solitude of the night.

Having suffered from chronic insomnia the first 23 years of my life, working the graveyard shift for over a year was the one thing that cured me.

I tried working the night shift as a truck driver. I found myself falling asleep at the wheel, at the traffic lights, then I got so sick out of nowhere. I had to eventually quit.

I call b/s. I've been working 3rd shift for over thirty years. My health is excellent, my weight and sleep habits are also fine. Some may not be able to handle being nocturnal but not everybody is built the same.

I worked graveyard shift at an HBCU for over 5 years straight. I was a wreck health wise, perpetually sleep deprived, moody and exhausted. And always craving junk food. Fortunately I crashed out and ended up in the hospital for 47 days right before the pandemic hit. I say fortunately because it forced me to focus on my health. Now my nutrition is top notch, exercise is frequent and I sleep thru the night with ease. I feel amazing now. I will never do night shift again.

@@mcmerry2846 The sleep you get during daytime is nothing like the deep nighttime sleep. Most humans have definitely evolved to sleep at night. My circadian rhythms were off for years.

Sorry don’t agree with it. Some people are different, since I was a teenager I have been a night person would rather sleep during the day when most people are busting their butt in the heat, especially living in the south. I’d rather be up in the coolness of the evening and night with less noise and people shuffling about. I’ve been working the night shift / graveyard shift for over seven years. It suits me , less hassle , less calls for need by other employees and allows me to raise two teenagers without interfering with work hours or family time. It also allows me to get paid twice , one for the 40 hour job I do and again for being able to expand my internet business while working my straight 40 because most needs are met by the day crew. Not to mention I only work 4 days a week. As a single father and an entrepreneur this is what works best for me financially and with little stress while providing me with every opportunity for family time and maximum financial freedom.

I guess I'm the one weirdo who absolutely prefers the night shift, lighter traffic, cooler temperatures and I have all day to run errands if I choose. But I do go to the gym in the morning after work, I shower there, work out for an hour, enjoy a hearty breakfast, set my phone to dnd and pass tf out. Been doing it for about 5 years and I love it, I will never go back to working 1st or 2nd shift if I don't have to. And working overnight gives you the perfect excuse to avoid family functions, they understand and are cool with you coming just to get a plate and leaving 😅
