When a Cat 5 hurricane passes through it leaves every tree naked and bare of leaves and fruit. Jamaicans are resourceful and very agrocentric people but they're not tree climbing monkeys, or animals who can sense where water is. They go to stores to buy rice, bread, and water just like everyone else. This is a huge crisis for the Jamaican government.

Hurricane Beryl passed us in Grand Cayman at 5:30am this Thursday morning, about 60 miles south of us, as a Cat 3. We did not lose power or water, not much damage, thankfully. The sea on Seven Mile Beach looked like glass. It was so smooth, but no, she passed us at 10:30am. The waves were starting to build, and a bit of rain. Thinking of the others who were deeply affected. Also, us locals call it CAYmaaaannnn, not CayMENS.
