This is a super relaxing video. Wish you would have made more than just one.

Use Loctite 518 flange sealant. Apply an even coat of no more than .010" to avoid effectively adding a shim and affecting preload. Test end play on shaft before and after sealing flange. Should have 0.000" - .004" of play, or wobble. Too much end play and the pilot bushing, input shaft and countershaft gears will wear fast. My S10 had a leak when new. The GM shop fixed the leak all right, with a hefty dose of rtv. But the shaft was loose. It squealed, then tore up the pilot bushing. It took 180k miles for the gears to strip, but should have never happened. The rest of transmission was fine. The Tremec T5 manual is available free as a printable .pdf file. (Tremec bought Borg Warner).

Thank you so much for this vid. My dad and I are converting a 2.3 notch to a 5.0. I pulled a t5 from a 94 gt and i'm doing my research on how the fuck I'm going to put everything together I have gathered for the project.

I have a 65 Mustang and found a 1352-238 T5 (94-97) in great shape for cheap. I am guessing I will need to either use the paired bell housing and modify the tunnel 21/32" to accommodate the longer shaft/shifter location or perform the input shaft change as you did and pair it with an earlier bell. Could you share where you got that shaft from and a part # perhaps? Great video, thx

Dave 75! I’m pretty sure this is the one I used. It already had the bearing pressed on which was one of the selling points for me. rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F181098669228

Hey matt, what kind of grease did you use to hold your bearings ? I’m kind of a noob but after watching your video I feel comfortable enough to do this myself.

For the shim in the retainer does it need the original one and that’s it does it need 2 to make sure there’s no play at all?
@mattculpepper6444Ай бұрын
@@MYSTICMEDIA007 honestly I just made sure there was end play. I made this vid a long time ago. Not entirely sure if that’s correct or not. This trans is still in my car though.

My bearing behind did not have free rolling bearings. They were caged. Like an idiot I split it and still can’t seem to get the new input shaft to fit properly. When I put the throw out bearing housing on the shaft wouldn’t turn.

I have a t5 in a 66 Ford pickup and bought a sn95 from a guy to replace the older t5 I realized the retainer wouldn't work with the older bellhousin so I just swapped retainers. It seems alright will that hurt anything?

When removing the original SN95 input shaft I noticed that 2 bearings washers came out, my question ? Did u use only 1 bearing wahser when installing the Fox Input shaft
@mattculpepper64446 жыл бұрын
motorace track star Sorry for the late reply. I used all the washers. There was a thrust washer, a needle bearing, then another thrust washer. The one thing I didn’t check for the first time I installed the fox shaft was a spacer behind the bearing race inside the sn95 retainer. It had a ton of end play. I pointed that mistake out in the video though. But with all the thrust washers and that spacer in the retainer there was very minimal end play and it spun freely. I’ve put about 1200 miles on this setup with zero issues so far. Hope this helps

I know it's old but, I did this and the dang needle bearings fell in case. What would be best way to try and get them out.
@GreenToFeelBlue3 жыл бұрын
You could attempt a magnet but I doubt that will fish it out. If not you'll have to remove the tail shaft and unbolt the top of the tranny to get it out. It's not too hard. There are plenty of tutorials on tearing down a T5

Are you able to use a fox body bell housing with this transmission? What about the lack of a neutral safety switch?
@mattculpepper64446 жыл бұрын
spencerleeb Yes you can. I used one from a 91gt. That was my purpose for doing the shorter fox-length input shaft. You would need to use the 94-95 v8 bellhousing if you didn’t swap input shafts. There are people that have used it straight out of an sn95 but it moves the shifter back 11/16” or something like that. I used a foxbody manual transmission harness that bypasses the switch. I do currently have a code 67 present but it did that with the aod in it with a nss hooked up

how much did it cost to convert your auto ( I'm guessing) foxbody to a manual and did you use any forms to do this process or anything? all in all great video keep it up
@mattculpepper64447 жыл бұрын
A1does thanks for the comment. Im still in the process of collecting parts. I went to www.lmr.com and looked at their foxbody aod to t5 swap parts list. They have a nifty 5 part video series doing the swap. I’m guessing I’ll have around $1800 in the swap, but I did have a few parts to begin with. It’s safe to say it could be more or less depending on what deals you can find.

I don't have a link but I got mine on American Muscle. I'm sure LMR would have it as well. So long as things are in stock.

foureyed stang Thanks for pointing that out. I read that somewhere else after I had already installed it. I’m gonna pull it again whenever I get around to pulling the engine and doing just that. Thanks for the comment

I used trans assembly lube to hold the spacer and bearings in place also as it will thin out over time and you can use a lot. Worked great. I pushed down on the shaft at the rear with one hand to raise up the front and the input shaft went in first try. You did a good job also. Good clear video. I did a 96 v6 mustang t5 into 85 mustang GT.

What is it just factory input shaft off foxbody trans or is it a specific gear ratio or ? Wondering cause I have t5 in my fox that is trashed and bought a 95 t5 trans can I just swap input shafts or is gear ratio diff on the input shafts themselves ?
@motormatt3022 жыл бұрын
@Justin Harris I needed the factory input shaft due to the length difference. Not 100% sure on your case but mine was a straight swap to my '04 trans
