Paul, with many of the T5 now have been rebuilt by person unfamiliar with the torque specs, I find myself repairing threads bosses for the input shaft bearing retainer (8 x 1.25M) and the upper left top extension housing bolt hole (10 x 1.0M) to avoid having to disassemble the entire transmission due to a stripped boss.

Sometimes porosity in the casting threads leads to stripping. I've seen the hole thread just pull out of the case with hardly any torque applied.

hey Paul, on the rear case support bearing on the output shaft, why do you not use 680 retainer there where the fit is loose on that race? the reason i ask is because i had the same race back out and broke two teeth off 2nd gear from shaft play, you could see where it was spinning in the case, and against the 5th gear

Because setup requires that bearing on first and until the front retainer is on is when preload is achieved. If it sets up before final preload you might not get an accurate reading

Rebuilt my first gearbox (foxbody T5) using KZbin and probably some of your content. Thanks! My top plate had somehow jammed into 3rd. Long story short, I rebuilt everything. Ragged on it for a while and eventually it started rolling out of 5th on decel. I'm back on KZbin researching before I pull the gearbox apart again. THANKS SO MUCH for the vids. I love photography, too. If you have trouble with focusing your cam. Use auto focus to get it setup then turn focus to manual so it doesn't get confused by focusing on your hand or tools as you're pointing stuff out to us. Thanks again. Does it make any difference that you are DRY fitting these ? Will that same "Lock up" happen in the oil rich environment it live's in ? I'm asking because I would think it wouldn't ? Am I wrong ? Hey hand fit parts are always best but are they that necessary ?
@GearBoxVideo6 жыл бұрын
These are NEW parts. The dry fitting process helps burnish the synchros in. Oil isn't the answer and will not prevent rings from sticking again when new. The problem happens often because in shipping gearboxes the rings will get stuck to the gears usually from boxes being banged around. Resellers such as Jegs or Summitt deal with complaints and returns because transmissions appear stuck in gear when they are not.

I see you used PVC pipe and fittings for your compressed air system in your shop. You should NEVER use PVC pipe and fittings for any compressed air or gases. They are not designed for air or gas. Fluids only. The reason being is if something was to ever hit the pipe or fittings and they break it explodes, sending shrapnel like fragments in all directions. There are plastic piping systems designed for compressed air but standard plumbing grade PVC pie and fittings are NOT and it is a very dangerous practice to use it this way.
@GearBoxVideo5 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your concern. I get this from a lot of people. Reprimanding me about stuff in my shop is something some people think is cool. Truth is its an old system from a previous tenant that I don't use. So I'm not an idiot and there is no air that goes thru it. Maybe say something like "Hey Paul do you run high pressure air thru those pipes?"
@stevenbelue54963 жыл бұрын
I work in frame/collision repair and have worked for two auto rebuilders and both used PVC and/or PCVC for compressor lines. I'm wanting to say around 125psi maybe more I don't remember but I can't tell you how many times we've busted the lines, how many times we've had to chisel down into the concrete for repairs, many many times over the last 20 yrs. I've had one explode right in my face and it really wasnt that violent and I don't recall one time that it sent shrapnel flying that hurt anyone, not saying it can't happen just saying in my experience at the psi we ran it didn't seem to be very dangerous. Having been around it as much as I have I wouldn't hesitate to use it in my personal shop.

Great video. I have a stock t5 in my 67 mustang. I just pulled it out and want to install this kit. The yrans shifted great behind a mild 302. But the 351w going in the car will break the T5. I figure I'll be right at about the limits with the g force kit. But cheaper than. Buying a new TKO/TKX Trans.

Depends. Spend 1500 for the gear set plus another 500 for a kit. What happens if you break it?
