Desantis faced 2 major hurricanes in FL and well-thought-out preparations minimized the danger and damage in Florida. California has been largely unprepared for this fire. They won't be able rebuild, even with insurance payments. To rebuild a house near the coast means a permit from the Coastal Commission, which takes no less than 3 years, usually closer to 10

I worked in insurance 40 years and I remember a great insurance company we had in a meeting we had , they had pulled out of California because California was telling them how much to pay and this one was a homeowners claim and they had a contractor that gave a replacement cost of $600,000 and ready to settle. California government came in and said no, it should be $800,000 . They didn’t have replacement coverage on their policy if $800,000 was the replacement and that is a penalty. You have to,have enough to replace the home to have replacement coverage. This company pulled out of California because of what they were doing.
