That rock play set is a great way to develop athleticism.

Dan actually hauled the rocks to create the pile. The foxes really like to be up high - or at least if not high, off the ground. Easier to see what's going on, probably. So Dan created the pile, and the foxes really enjoy it.

Yes, the gray fox fathers are involved in bringing up their kits. Some are more diligent than others, but they all help out to some extent. Last year we watched a family of mama, papa and one kit, and the father was almost as involved as the mother. But 3 years ago we watched a family of 2 females and 6 kits in one of the dens and the father only stopped by very occasionally - usually to deliver food.

For anyone wondering the adult gray fox is domestic cat size 12-16” at the shoulder, 30-40” nose to tail and 7-12 lbs

And I think they’re cat-like.

@@aqhasassy They are. People who have grey foxes as pets, report they get along very well with cats, and are affectionate with them.

Grey foxes are very interesting..and more cat than canine.

People say that gray foxes have dog hardware running cat software. They are canids, but there certainly is something feline about their behavior.

oh, is it kit/cub season already? I almost missed it, gotta check the livestream!
@TexasBackyardWildlife8 ай бұрын
We're not sure if there are any kits around yet, ElectronBlue. We haven't seen any, but we usually calculate that the fox kits are born from mid-April on through about mid-May. We are hoping that a fox family will move into one of the dens.
