Күн бұрын

Is this the most haunted canal? We head from Carnforth to the end of the Lancaster as our canal boat diaries continue by narrowboat.
We travel from Hest Bank by Morecambe Bay, through Bolton-Le-Sands, into Carnforth. After our plans for overnight mooring were thwarted we carry on to Capenwray and stop off at the very creepy Capenwray Arm before we arrive at the end of the navigable Lancaster Canal at Tewitfield.
Is it the most haunted or are we just soft lads?

Came here for the peace and tranquilty your vids give me. But stayed for the bravery and honesty regarding your mental health. Episode 9 was a game changer for me. Finally someone has put into words how I feel on a daily basis. I've been able to show my partner your vlog and say "this is how I feel, this is what my brain does when things get too much, when I get too many inputs" But not only that but your insight has given me insight, what I need, what I should do to start trucking through life. So thank you so much!

Question guys that this video made me think about - maybe for your next Q and A? What are your thoughts on the amount of narrow boats on the system - are there too many? Or only in some places? With what looks like quite a few companies making decent amounts of new boats, where’s the tipping point before you can’t get around the system any more without struggling all the time? As always, love your work - Gav.

Top job on the effects for the Capernwray Arm section! I worked as a ranger on the canal a few years back and that was one of my favourite bits of it - proper backwoods feel to the place. I live not fifty yards from the cut in Carnforth - I'll give you a wave if I see you, but might draw the line at following you along the towpath and stopping every time you look round...:-)

We stopped in the Capenwray back in the early eighties when we were teenagers. Only boat there for days. Looks a lot busier these days! Moorings have always been an issue. That's why the Northern reaches needs to open. The canal is just too busy for such a "short" canal.
@andymoore9977
@andymoore9977 5 жыл бұрын
Opening the Northern Reaches would be amazing - Kendal then onto Windermere!. But would it just attract more traffic? Making the approaches even busier?
@FoxesAfloat
@FoxesAfloat 5 жыл бұрын
It is quite busy at the moorings. Wouldn't be so bad if the dredged some of the suitable spots to allow more mooring spaces. Would be even better to reopen the whole 14 miles of the north! x

My parents retired to Slyne, next door to Hest Bank very near the house with direct access to the canal. I've spent many happy hours walking and cycling alongside the Lancaster Canal. There is a fantastic 2nd hand book shop in Carnforth and it was the home of the Flying Scotsman (Steam Town) for many years. I believe that the Lancaster is the longest stretch of canal in the UK without any locks? It's a pity that they lost the section into Kendal when the M6 was built. Thank you for the video it brings back many happy memories.

This is a little bit spooky. Many years ago I visited Sizergh Castle at Kendal. A beautiful castle ( Royalist) but Oliver Cromwell and his modern army had taken over the dungeons and basement and spied on the royalists through spy holes in the partitioned panelled walls. They even had a tapestry with the roundheads eating roasted meat in the lower kitchen. They were secretive. Another stately home near Carnforth was named Ellis. Now abandoned and fully intact. Supposed to be Catherine Parr's home but she died before it was actually built. I researched battle sites for a hobby. One such battle was Gettysburg. According to American history books Major Cromwell and Colonel Ellis both Union Soldiers were killed at Devils Den. Ellis was apparently involved in Ellis Island. Shipping immigrants to the USA by ship. ( slave trade?) ( In my fathers house are many mansions!!!) Now the history is being altered on the internet to cover up past history. Amazing what was really going on at Carnforth and Glasson. Spooky barely scratches the surface. 💘 and best wishes from Arizona 🇺🇸.

Thanks for an lovely episode. This is balsam for the soul 👍🏻 Being a sailor, I'm curious; why don't you moore alongside another boat in the canal. Especially when there is ample room for this. Also, I have seen some boats having big poles onboard to help out those difficult moorings (i.e; to have the boat stay a few feet out of the "jetty"). Just curious, since I have no experience of canal boating. Maybe you two fellows could make an episode of good canal seamans ship and etiquete of boat canalling. So far, I have not seen anyone doing an episode like this. Love ya.

Nice vlog, I agree, winter trees would make the place creepier... I am struggling with the long tunnels, way creepier and reminds me of the nostromo in alien...

I live close by and you'd be surprised at the prices. Around £600000 for the larger ones, relatively cheap I think compared to properties that size in other areas of the country.

@@gillgregory6327 That's actually pretty good value! Can you imagine a property like that on the Thames? Add a couple of zeros!

Loved the closing shot with the boat gliding silently past the various logos and links, wrapping perfectly with the music. It felt very retro / stylish. Nice work.

I'm out here in the US in California and we don't have anything like the canal network out here. Also OMG you two are the cutest couple! Again thanks for the videos!

Outstanding part of the country and what a way to see it.I have been to Carnforth a couple of times I'am a bit of a steam train fan.Vulcan bomber thats one fine aircraft pitty XH558 is no longer flying I saw my first Vulcan B Mk1 XH498 (Dambusters) 617 Sqn as a young kid almost crash at Wellington Airport New Zealand Oct 1959 it undershot runway 34 and damaged the lefthand landing gear and wing tip, the Captain gave it full power and it managed to climb away with fuel leaking from the wing it flew to RNZAF base Ohakea for a safe landing it was repaired and returned to the UK Jan 1960 and remained in service til 1967.Awesome video boys.

Honestly again I just love how slow and smooth ur and Shaun drive silverfox down the canals. Also why do other narrowboaters have so much stuff on the roof. I love ur cuz it’s very simple and u can walk free, on them you would have jump and skip over. 😊 onto video 54

hehe! because there's not a lot of storage, some boaters resort to using the roof.

Really lovely part of the world. Not lived in the UK for nearly 30 years (live on the Gold Coast Australia) but do miss the lush countryside. Pleased the weather is good for you. Look forward to your ongoing exploration of the canals........None of my business but just wondering if either of you are managing to work while cruising?

Excellent vid guys.. the shots over the bay are stunning. I walk the dogs up to Carnforth I always get an eerie feeling going through the wooded section so you’re not alone. The quarry use to supply the limestone which gave the name the Black and white canal it’s now a caravan site with a cafe with excellent home made cakes! Enjoy the rest of your time on the Lanky.
