omg , just watching that vlog brings back nightmares of when we broke down in it , i just went into panic mode , as i saw the barge behind us catching up & did'nt know what to do as the wooden towpath had nearly all broken up , so i could'nt get off & push the boat , but the barge behind gave us a gentle nudge out , i never want to go in there again . i loved the outtakes , it made me chuckle .

You have now brought back another memory for me. It would have been in 1949 when I was with a group of scouts and we had an old ship's lifeboat which we used on the Peak Forest and Macclesfield canals. We took the boat onto the Trent and Mersey and to the Harecastle tunnel. You mention James Brindley and he had a connection to Marple - there is a Brindley Avenue there. You also mention spooky stories and one might be from when we arrived at the tunnel - we had to wait to go through the tunnel while a group of watermen pulled a corpse from the canal just near the entrance. We must have gone through the old tunnel but we did not have to 'leg it' because we got a tow behind a narrowboat. Thanks for another memory. Alan Parkinson

Terrific and fascinating video, fellas. Fantastic and relatable narration that casually demonstrates the hard work of research you've clearly put in. You both really have a gift for this and have chosen the right path to my mind. One really has to marvel at the ingenuity, engineering and construction skills of the people involved in such ventures in the Victorian era. Britain really must have been on top of her game and genuinely world beating at the time. Perhaps that why 'The War Of The Worlds' is my favourite book. Triggered and angered by the needless and cruel slaughter of helpless Tasmanians by the British army in his time, Welles pondered what it would be like if the same happened to Britain and despite all her innovation and achievement she was utterly impotent and useless when faced by this new, exotic and technically superior enemy. A clever contemporary moral comment that still chills. I'm rambling. Your intrepidness and lust for life puts the vast majority of us to shame. Even if only for my sake, keep it up and keep us posted.

Thanks for doing the return trip just to show it to us, and I love the history you provided. The fan thing is something one of the major train tunnels up in my neck of the woods do. It doesn't take long. It's a lovely scenic walk over the top 👍🏻
