Elvis was amazing in everything he did. Including treating everyone he met with affection and respect. Its hard to be a southerner these days because it seems everyone thinks were racist. Well we're not and neither was Elvis. A great thanks to these women for giving us first hand accounts of their time with Elvis. I've never heard the story about the Houston show not wanting the Sweet Inspiration there. I'm not a bit surprised Elvis knew exactly where to tell them they could stick there show if they thought he was going to show up without them! Thank you God for bringing us Elvis!

Beautiful video. Some people arrogantly assume that because he was from the south he was a bigot, but it's not true. I love to see this confirmed by those who were so close to him and knew him intimately. And there is no lukewarmness when they talk about him...you can see and hear their passion and love when speaking of him. He had a lasting impression on all who encountered him. God bless you & God rest to Elvis in the bosom of Christ....

Lamont Pearson Oh...we've heard that falsely atrributed quote. There's no valid source for it. The truth is, Elvis never said that and would have never said that. He did not have that nature. Watch this video of the Sweet Inspirations, they worked with him day-in and day-out for the better part of decade. Like everyone else who knew him, THEY LOVED HIM. Consider the words of James Brown, Muhammad Ali, Jackie Wilson, Sammy Davis Jr. and other African-Americans who all counted Elvis as one of their closest friends. You should be ashamed. I predict in time, if you are a man, you will be.

Well my jury is in after 25 yrs of wondering and Elvis was a man that did not steal from anyone he was inspired and how he unapologetically acknowledge the importance that rhythm n blues and the black culture influenced and helped in shaping his music ! Someone asked me if I could have one wish that 2 musicians came together and sing , I would have had it in 1959 that Elvis and Sam Cooke met and really tear the house down !!!!!
@joebloggins357010 жыл бұрын
Greg Alldredge All this 'he stole black music' nonsense is pointless anyway. Using the logic of those that wheel this rubbish out as a diatribe against Elvis, you could also say that black people stole from whites to produce their music. Who invented the electric guitar, bass, piano, saxophone, etc? White inventions, yet no-one with any brains would accuse black people of stealing their music from whites, or that Elvis stole black music. He was influenced by it, he didn't steal it. Music doesn't have a colour, it's there for everyone - though those who accuse him of stealing it obviously have agendas of their own.

Listen to the " million dollar quartet " album , Elvis talks about Jackie Wilson and how he thought his version of Dont be cruel was better than his own. Elvis had a great ear for music, if he liked it he would use it. Actors are always encouraged to take something that they see works and use it. Elvis was the same way. What was he supposed to do? See something that is working and NOT use it? That would be dumb. Elvis was not about color, he was about MUSIC. His problems with drugs seem to give the impression that he was always like that, simply not true. Elvis did not invent rock and roll (and never claimed to) he just did it better than anyone

+Tommy Petersen Absolutely correct. He played for all of my aunts and uncles proms in Grenada, Tupelo and Bruce Mississippi. My Uncle Buck was a car salesman in Memphis & owned one of his Cream Coloured Cadillacs. I remember riding in the back seat and Uncle Buck would make the glass roll down between the front and back seats, We also pulled up across the street from Graceland one evening when Elvis was returning, before paparazzi went crazy. He had the top down, his guard from the little shack next to the music gates were open, people were walking the streets, not to see him, just out for an evening stroll and he stopped, signed autographs and talked to them. My Uncle called across the street and Elvis said, "Hey Buck". My other unlce lived on the gravel road behind Graceland and every summer I would get to walk across the road and listen while Elvis and Uncle James talked about James, bird-dogs and Elvis horses. Priscilla ruined Graceland by selling off the land to the South and behind Graceland. It was a pretty and small estate.

That comment sounds NOTHING like the way Elvis talked! LOL! At least figure out the way a person would speak before you make such a false and jealous lie of a "quote". He never even cared about money - he gave most of his money away!. He was so damn humble - for example: when in Hawaii, a group of college girls, sitting in the front row, held letters that spelled "Elvis is King" & he rebuffed it & said, "no, there is only one king & it's the Lord".

I am from Memphis and I am a big Elvis. I am into politics, history, and sports and have many debates and arguments. By far the one discussion that has drawn the most contention is an urban myth about Elvis being a racist. On the flip side was white kids telling me that Dr. King was a communist. Those myths say more about people who believe them than about Elvis or Dr. King.
