Unfortunately not yet. Prop 36 is only effective if your local DA decides to file charges and doesn’t reduce (plead down) charges. If your local DA is still soft on crime then Prop 36 does nothing in your area. It might actually make crime worse as criminals will start to focus on counties that don’t prosecute criminals.

when the Walgreens, and Walmarts closed up in high shoplifting areas, people were in an uproar, and said it was because of racism. Those stores are not there for your convenience to steal their inventory. they work on a profit margin of 2-3%, and when more inventory is stolen rather than bought, it doesn't make fiscal sense to stay open. A pile of 7-11's have closed recently because of the same reasons, and people are complaining about the inconvenience to to them personally. People rarely see the long term effect of their actions.

When I pay $1.86 for a 30 day supply, I'm not digging into costs; just like everyone else.. Most pay a fraction of the costs with insurance being billed for the rest. Don't like what you are charged: get a better form of insurance.
