I also struggled when I got out. I don’t like talking about it but my dad see something in me as he was a vet from Vietnam. I was laying face down on a couch and couldn’t do anything. I was scared and hopeless at the same time. He made some calls and came in and made me get up. We drove to an in patient counseling center with the VA. It was a long road but I started living life not long after that. I drank a lot and had 3 dui arrest during my lowest times. God helped me through this as well as my father and others. I had so much anger and grief during most of my career. When I got out, I still didn't get help. My wife and sons saw the problems I was having. I didn't get help because I didn't trust others to help me. I still had it in my head that I could deal. 4 years ago I hit my breaking point and was ready to just end it. I felt that I wasn't doing any good for anyone and everyone would be better off with me gone. Then a friend took me to a Vet Center and I met a real counselor who wanted to help me. She helped me face my demons and how to deal with them. Most important, she showed me that I am a good person and I deserve to be happy. I want every service member that needs help to get the help. Bless you dudes. Did my time as 11b1p ... not embarrassed in the slightest to say never saw combat, was always ready. 31 years out and , well, it's still weird fitting in. I think the brotherhood of it all is just so unique, especially if you were young, that civilian life just seems ... less. I imagine a bad situation amplifies that 1000 times. I don't think civilians understand the impact even just the epidemic level of 'dear John' situations we have to witness our buddies go through constantly, while we are just trying to do good and serve the cause of liberty, have on soldiers of any stripe. I knew few men, myself included, that someone actually stood by. I saw some of the best men I ever knew sob. Men I respected for their fortitude and would have given all for. I realize this is a different thing than this story discusses. But it IS a thing. I just mention it now for all the spouses of soldiers away that might read this. We can handle a breakup. Just do it when we are home. If you care about us at all. I run into soldiers at work from time to time as I work in healthcare. Never do I get along as well with anyone as I do with them. There is a guy here in Dallas that says he was a Delta operator during this incident and he was captured and they cut off his finger while being captured and yes, his finger was missing half of it so he did lose part of his finger either the way he said or some other way. I can't remember his name though other then he was originally from New York and is now in Dallas and says he was on the delta team that fought in this specific conflict.
@dogsoldier77792 жыл бұрын
It’s possible he could’ve been Delta but rarely do former Delta operators come out & say they were Delta. Most always refer to it as The Unit or CAG. I don’t recall anyone on that op getting their finger cut off while in captivity. Blackhawk pilot Mike Durant was captured but no extremities were removed. A lot of guys claim to be Navy Seals or Delta & most of the time they’re not & were never close to being it. Just from your comment describing the guy telling you & the details about being in Delta & BHD, which we always referred to as Operation Gothic Serpent, I just don’t think that guy was a former CAG operator. I could be wrong but I’d bet most of my chips that he’s not.
