I was 27 years old when i got caught with 6 oxycodone pills without prescription....I was a first time offender and it was a non violent crime....did my charges get dropped? HELL NO! I got charged with transportation and attempted sales(cuz i told the cop i was gonna give some to my friend) I manned up and took responsibility for having the pills....but i never sold the pills and i wasnt about to take responsibility for something i didnt do... Or thats what i thought..... After being locked up for 60 days i thought they would offer me some type of first time offender deal or atleast reduce the charges to possession.....NOPE! On my 60 day of being locked up the only way i could go home is if i pleaded gulty to all charges wether i was guilty or not.....well guess what? My wife gave birth to my second daughter like 2 hours before i was offered that plea deal...... now i had a choice to make.... Should i take the plea deal and accept responsibility for something i didnt do? just so i could get out of jail and get to the hospital to see my newly born daughter? Or should i continue to stay locked up and fight the charges? And miss the birth of my daughter and potentially miss up to the first 3 years of my daughters life? Like many regular folks do, i pleaded guilty to somethig i didnt do. I had no money for bail so fighting the charges would be too lengthy and risky but worst i had a family to financially support....and being locked up means i make zero income for my family to cover life essentials like rent, utilities and food.......So again i must ask, where's my special first time offender break? Why didnt my charges get dropped? They were also non violent....so whats up? Is it cuz im not rich or famous?
