Same for the Carolinas (with the exception of the metropolitan areas with a decent tech presence). These states that thrive on tourism dollars expects people to work for sheckles to drive the hospitality industry. Then the tourists fall in love, move to the area, and drive up the cost of living. Now the essential workers are priced out because rent is sky high and salaries are insufficient. It’s sad.

When it comes to splitting the bill, it’s always the person that orders the most expensive meal/drinks that suggests it and then calls other people broke if they don’t want to do it. How hard is it to pay for what you ordered and split the tax/tip evenly amongst the entire party? If it’s someone’s birthday you just divide it evenly and add it to each persons bill. I have a friend that wants to calculate 20% tip down to the penny based on what your total was and that’s a bit much for me. I’m like Claudia, I don’t always order an entree because it’s too much food, plus I’m a vegetarian. My bill is typically substantially less than someone who orders the steak. If there’s an issue I just calculate what I ordered, add tax and tip and leave.

Went to birthday dinner for my mother with my father and siblings (brother and his girlfriend and sister, her husband and 3 kids). It was so embarrassing how my brother in law acted when the check came, that I'll never go out and eat with them again. He took the check and started calling out the meals and the prices. He was even going to collect money from my parents. I ended up paying the bill, but would never go out to eat with him again.

I'm on a fixed income and when my old apt increased and when I tried to buy a reasonable home that would've been within my budget and the loan officer said they didn't make enough.
