It’s not a terrible business decision for Darnold to take a slight discount to stay in Minnesota. He is still relatively young he can make generational money with Minnesota for 3-5 years and then go test the market and get another 3 years of being highly paid. If he leaves Minnesota and flops he is not getting another big money contract.

Prisco is full of it today! The Jets were truly a dumpster fire organization during Darnold’s brief tenure. They had a lot of terrible coaching. A lot of good quarterback prospects could have failed under those circumstances.

Pete Prisco is a moron. The Vikings are not going to trade JJ McCarthy or resign Sam to a massive deal. The whole plan was to have Sam come in for one year and be a bridge QB. The most likely scenario is that Sam gets tag and trade once McCarthy is ready to go. The reserved cap will be spent on upgrading the guard or center position. The Vikings defense personal is not that great especially at the LE, RE and CB position.

It would be beneficial for Sam Darnold to get another year or two of equity before he goes and makes market value, and the vikings have JJ in the oven right now. No need to overspend if not needing too. Pete Prisco is talking himself in circles. So Darnold is a product of circumstance only, but Trevor Lawrence just needs the right situation? I swear the only people to make more than Lawrence off of head and shoulders are Proctor & Gamble and Fabio... Then Prisco tries to make the argument, "what if Darnold wins the Superbowl?" as if that's a bad thing? A lack of self awareness on that level should be studied. The simple fact is that having two QBs you think are talented on the roster is never a bad thing. The myth that you have to throw everything at a rookie QB on a rookie contract is a media creation. If the Vikings can sign Darnold for a decent enough deal that their total price of their QB room is market competitive, then they should do it. If the have confidence in JJ then they should be smart enough to realize that Mahomes, Allen, Jackson and Love all sat behind a solid QB who they later replaced and in no way was the team hurt by it. Somebody put Prisco on an MLB beat or something. Dude has no business talking football.
