@@mhgni.b6314 and then Jade had another one of my crushes on after Mal haha. Such a great conversation and I learned so much. Jade is giving all the gifts and knowledge!! I want to be like Mal with the way they carry themselves and stay calm and kind even in conflict. It sounds silly, but I’d never seen someone handle conflict the way they did on the ultimatum and ever since, I’ve been striving to be more like that. I thank them for being such a good example of how to be queer and such a kind and steady human. I’m excited for the clothing adventures they are working on! I’ve been a fan of Jade for years, even before I really admitted to myself that I was queer. I appreciate Jade so much for everything I’ve learned and all the things they’ve shared over the years with us.

I think Mal’s empathy is a testament to Afro-Caribbean upbringing. I was taught the same thing. The old saying “do onto others as you would like done to you,” was big while I was growing up…and that sense of community. My family knew everyone. Lots of empathy, lots of love, lots of compassion and community.

To Mal’s advice about getting on the ground to handle conflict as someone in a position of power…yes. That’s a strategy I learned as a teacher & it’s very effective when working with students. Rather than towering over them when I need to provide discipline, correct behavior, or even just give feedback about their work, it’s good practice to physically get at a child’s level by sitting or kneeling before having that conversation with them. It really does change the tone & lessens that power dynamic. They’re also not having to strain their neck to look at me. Lol

not you flashing the white womans face 🤣🤣🤣 you are soooo wrong for that 🤣🤣🤣 as a soft black butch this was a great convo - as a child of immigrants definitely align with what mal said about “stepping into others shoes” and it’s so interesting being soft but also masc (i also think there’s a hardness that people put on black women which is probably rooted in something racist but idk) and it’s been super important for me to show up as my whole self each day whether that be getting my nails done or clarify with partners that i like everything to feel super natural yet balanced and equal even if they’re femme, i feel like we owe it to ourselves to not let people get it twisted. cuz at the end of the day a lot of times we’re the ones that end up missing out (on being made to feel beautiful, feeling taken care of, sexual pleasure etc etc). Super important conversation, thank you both

As a black masc presenting non-binary person, I was called a femme in disguise by a girl who had expectations for me to be a stud 😂 People need to know we exist and are not a monolith and can be gentle and express ourselves.
