Ben Coelho Thank you for posting that. My wife and I lost twins a week from viability about five years ago and we barely survived it. This song, and seeing how it touches people with such profound losses is a great reminder that even while drowning in the bleakest of darkness there is always light to show the way - You just have to look for it and hold onto it. I'll see them again, as you and your wife will see yours. God bless you and your family, Ben.

After my battle with addictions, my ever present demons, my old lies and dishonesty she never completely gave up on me. I was already broken when she met me and was already in a spiraling descent and I even told her that in our first few nights we hung out. I had put her through more than she should have had to put up with, yet she told me everyone has something that ain't perfect about them...I have a little girl with her now and I'm a lot better than I used to be...I haven't been perfect but yet that's life especially when your demons don't like to hide. Just the other day 6 years into building back the bridge I started to burn in both directions I heard a tone in her voice that I hadn't felt in a while. It was the tune of serenity and cheerfulness and it was continuous hope for me...I live my life for her and my daughter and it's not easy and takes a lot of determination because I struggle. I will be the Father I'm needed to be and the Man she has fought to save and be with. Thank You.

@@jcspidell345 perfect name! one of my favorites :) one word of advice -unrequested of course- but we all want to protect and provide for our kids. just remember what it was like when you were a kid and what you needed - not wanted. a hug, sound advice, participation from both parents. wisdom and compassion with equal amounts of tough love and responsibility. there should be coming of age moments that ARE a big deal. riding a bike for the first time, helping cook dinner, setting the table. tasks that seem like nothing to us, but to little ones, it's BIG. they want to be just like mommy or just like daddy. i wish my parents had done those things for me and wish me. since i can't go back in time I am making sure to do those things with my kids. i just can't encourage people enough to do them too. and if you already are, then congratulations! you're helping to build a better world.

Any time I feel like I’ll crumble and give in I think or listen to this song. I’m reminded of those same loved ones which gives me strength and a guiding light in the dark. Thank you, Vance. And to anyone in the same position right now. Take a day at a time and do not judge yourself. Remember the little things. Remember your accomplishments. Remember your pride. Any small win is a win and we will beat it.

Everytime I hear this it reminds of me of Psalms 23 and how God is always guiding us along the path. He is always the light trying to bring us home. I use this song a lot as a worship leader in small house sets. I'll play the chorus over and over and people will sing with so much belief in the words, but it wasn't even written originally as a worship song. It's not always the intention of the song, but the meanings of songs are entirely personal to each and every listener, and this song reminds me that I'm never alone no matter where I may end up.

Thanks Foy. This song is so poignant for me. I used to even sit in the same coffee shop as you but I wasn’t aware of who you were at the time back in 2011. I just thought ‘it’s that cool looking fellow Norn Irish dude with the tash in here again’ ... I’d just moved to the area because I had lost my brother to cancer and was sorting his belongings in his flat. Turns out that he actually lived around the corner from you too! The words ‘Guiding Light’ are also what I chose for my brother’s headstone. So obviously when I hear this song, which you produced - not long after my brother passed - it really comforts me, not just for the lyrics but for the weird yet appropriate coincidence. It’s like others have said - the song is sad but also a true comfort and helps me personally release the pent up grief. I don’t live in that area now but I’ll definitely take a wee trip back to the coffee shop and listen to it, watching the world hurry by in their pursuits. They were sad lonely days for me and I’d sit in that coffee shop alone trying to find a rationale in my mind for why God stole my brother in his prime?... Now I can take this beautiful song as a memory to treasure forever. What a gift and just wished I’d said Hello! You were always deep in thought too though...Thank you.

Well the road is wide, And waters run on either side, And my shadow went with fading light, Stretching out towards the night. 'Cause the Sun is low, And I yet have still so far to go, My lonely heart is beating so, Tired of the wonder. But there's a sign ahead, Though I think it's the same one again, And I'm thinking 'bout my only friend, And so I find my way home. When I need to get home You're my guiding light, You're my guiding light. When I need to get home, You're my guiding light, You're my guiding light. Well the air is cold, And yonder lies my sleeping soul, By the branches broke like bones, This weakened tree no longer holds. But the night is still, And I have not yet lost my will, Oh and I will keep on moving 'till, 'till I find my way home. When I need to get home, You're my guiding light, You're my guiding light. When I need to get home, You're my guiding light, You're my guiding light. When I need to get home, You're my guiding light, You're my guiding light.
