Ed's version has the soul of a young man, troubled in love and life. Foy's version has the pain of a man that has lost that very love and coping with that life. It's cathartic. I can't stop listening. I'll clarify further by saying that I do enjoy both versions but in their own right. Also, I prefer Foy's version. Ed = Pop, upbeat, softer, lighter feeling. Foy = Soul, bluesy, gritty, heavier... You just FEEL it.
@gamemaster84885 жыл бұрын
James Lifsey I disagree. Ed's version is 3 notes on repeat and he just sings like he always sings. Smells of amateur, afraid. This is still not entirely blues but it grasps its elements much better To me Eds version is a failure cuz of 0 experience but kudos for trying and this version is the move over, ill show you how to do it.

I kind of hate that in Ed Sheerans version it's displayed as his own song and not a cover...No mention of this legend on Ed's official video. All his fan girls think he wrote it ffs.
@michaelguinan53575 ай бұрын
He didn't write it either, dip shit.
@Idontknoww5765 ай бұрын
Ed Sheeran's cover popped out on my feed and I was just thinking about that. Most people in the comments seem to mistakenly recognize this as an original, which is shameful. Ed Sheeran is to blame. However, I believe Foy Vance and this song in particular will always have the recognition and appreciation of those who this song was written for. Those who actually understand and appreciate the blues. No autotune pop-ish version targeting a naive and futile generation will make the audience that knows who wrote this masterpiece forget the true blues artist and man Foy Vance is. He has less recognition, but the recognition of the right audience, who can appreciate the blues. That is how I see it.

I honestly love Sheeran's take on this, but this is the man who wrote it; this rendition is as raw & soulful as it was intended, and I genuinely prefer this original version

KZbin just recommended this song to me. As I sat here and listened to this song for the first time, the most disturbing thing has been happening: As I think about my past. of my mother and biological father, how much suffering occurred between their abusive tendencies. my brother and I caught in the landslide of their ways as children back then. I start to cry. As I do, the tears are burning my eye sockets, quite unbearably. All the times we shared, holding eachother scared, my brother and I, listening to violent beatings enacted by a crackhead father onto our mother, in front of us, give or take if we were next... Sure enough, I hear the lyrics "I know these tears will bring me pain" I was shocked that in fact this was happening quite literally at the moment, my tears were bringing me physical pain as I allowed more of my heart to be vulnerable to the voice of Foy Vance. I have never quite experienced burning tears ever in my life... There could be something esoteric happening here.. as I don't believe in coincidences. There was something greater at work during this experience And in short, This is one of the greatest songs any human could possibly hear. I'm grateful for the existence of this lyricist and vocalist. Thank you. You've heal me this day.

When the sins of my father Weigh down in my soul And the pain of my mother Will not let me go Well, I know there can come fire from the sky To refine the purest of kings Even though I know this fire brings me pain Even so And, Lord, just the same Make it rain Make it rain Make it rain Make it rain Make it rain Make it rain Make it rain Make it rain And the seed needs the water Before it grows out of the ground But it just keeps on getting hotter And the hunger more profound Well, I know there can come tears from their eyes But they may as well be in vain Even though I know these tears will bring me pain Even so And, Lord, just the same Oh, make it rain Make it rain Make it rain Make it rain Make it rain Make it rain Make it rain Make it rain The seas fill with water Stops by the shore Just like the riches of grandeur Never reach the port Let the clouds fill with thunderous applause Oh, let lightning be the veins Fill the sky With all that they can drop When it's time To make a change Make it rain Make it rain Make it rain Make it rain Make it rain Make it rain Make it rain Oh, make it rain Make it rain Make it rain down, Lord Make it rain Make it rain Make it rain Make it rain down Make it rain Make it rain
