Journe watches seem completely out of reach now and possibly forever. The premium on them is astronomical and the competition at the boutiques is almost insurmountable. It seems like the premium on the second market won't subside until they either make a lot more watches which could fulfill demand (unlikely) or they fall out of fashion with the richest watch buyers making them more available to the rest of us (also unlikely). I guess if there is enough of an economic downturn in the future, maybe then the watch market on the whole would see all premiums decrease. Until then, they are pieces to certainly admire and hold as grails, but not to own. I'm sure you hold your two Journes closely and appreciate them to their greatest extent.

I'm waiting for the resonance and the optimum. Lets see how long it takes...ive given up on the CB and thehre not taking wait lists anymore anyway. Do i really want to pay datograph money for a simple 3 hander, but with a beautiful metal, tantalum and a gorgeous blue dial? Maybe!! Haha

The dial designs for FP Journe are amazing. The hands, the numeral typography, the metal borders, etc. phenomenal. The caliber bridges in gold is also icing on the cake. That being said, the finishing (at least not the high complication models) leaves a little to be desired in comparison to say the hand beveling of Laurent Ferrier or Romain Gauthier, though on the same level as Patek and AP.

I agree - GF and RGs finishing is leagues above FPJ. But FPJ just has *soul*, kind of difficult to explain. That makes it very difficult to properly compare those brands. And your right on the technique itself, FPJ uses a mix of hand an machine finishing, just like AP and Patek. I do know that Patek makes a few watches that are exclusively hand finished, but these pieces are sold at astronomical prices. Not sure if AP has any exclusively hand finished pieces in it‘s current line up.

F.P. Journe makes a great watch. No argument. But the F.P. Journe is more than a watch brand, it has become a legend. There is more to the brand than just the watch, its the person. It was his passion, his salesmanship (or specific lack thereof), his personal character. F.P. Journe is how legends are made of.

Hello Bill, thank you for a very interesting and informative video on FP Journe. I have an Octa Lune in rose gold and the boutique called me today for allocation of the perpetual calendar in rose gold and blue guilloche. I accepted and will receive it at the end of April 2024. A real surprise to get the call today. Patients pays off since I never asked the boutique when I would receive an allocation. You have to build a reputation first with the boutique staff.

FPJ could produce a limited edition of maybe 100 Chronomètre Souverains with stainless steel cases and brass bridges & plates for under $10k and they'd be gone before they reached the retailers...but if they use the same resources to produce 100 Chronomètre Souverain in rose gold with gold bridges & plates for $40k that would fill up the orders on a waiting list... why use resources to create watches for far lower profits?
