F.P. Journe is one of those cases where "if it ain't broke don't fix it" meets a man that's like "I'mma try and fix it anyway". That among his charity, motivation to be involved in everything he does, and the way the Journe boutique's treat their employee's and customers all like family is why I will always love F.P. Journe.

What "heritage" does is establish a baseline of expectations, which is occasionally useful for consumers. When the watch speaks for itself, and exceeds any possible expectation, heritage is superfluous.
@JLchevz4 жыл бұрын
I mean yeah, but reputation isn't. You would not pay 100k for a no name watch brand
@0brand0brand344 жыл бұрын
I understand your point but can’t say I agree. With heritage comes expectation as well as ‘fit’ in terms of what that brand and its heritage stands for. It means that where a brand with heritage does something different, it is forgiven if not quite the best. Like how BMWs heritage centres around compact sports saloons, but people will buy the 7 series and forgive it for not being the best limo all round (the S-Class). Lexus tried to muscle in and scientifically did all the limo things - quietness, comfyness, etc - better than both 7 and S-Class but it’s lack of heritage was its downfall.

A tourbillon is ineffective when it's oriented horizontally. How often does a watch find itself laying flat in daily wear if you set it down on its side at bed time? How does having it in this configuration help at all? I would say it even exacerbates the problem by orientating the balance horizontally in the crown left position -- the position best associated with a wearer sitting(which is a good part of a day for many people), arm rested on arm rest, lap, or desk.

Pocket watches riding upright when worn so that that the escapement is always vertical, and using the jar of honey analogy, the honey will evenly coat the edge of the glass as it spins; however, when this watch is worn with the hand down at one's side, the escapement will be horizontal and the honey will fall to the bottom of the jar. I think the only way to have a tourbillon work at all angles/positions is to have it pivot a full 360 degrees such that the escapement is always vertical no matter which way you tilt or rest the watch.

One thing I see as a potential problem... I often wear watches and most of the time the face of the watch is not parallel to the floor but rather the position of my wrist is facing it away from my body so actually the watch face is perpendicular to the floor, either when I'm holding something, or talking and gesticulating, or when my hands are just resting at my sides. In all of these cases the tourbillon is actually more useful in a traditional watch than this watch (when they're in use) because actually being used on the wrist, they spend more time being perpendicular to the ground. Of course storing them would mean to hang them off of something or having them be on their side, but that's easier than having your wrist and watchface constantly parallel to the ground 🤷🏼♂️
