I play stuff from Dream Theater or Polyphia or chon these days (not all songs lol but many) and this man single handedly got me into mathcore and other rock in HS in 2004. Since then I’ve evolved. Thanks AJ!

He uses the red jazzIII picks or the Black dunlop tortex 1.14mm small same shape harder picks. He is my favorite guitarist, the reason why I can play anything other than blues pentatonics, thanks buddy =)

@Budgetgravy Dean Herrera said that the band isn't officially broken up. The bassist said they were breaking up without consulting the band first, but there is a chance of them reforming.

Well that's what I thought too. I was just confused, because he was showing the same normal patterns, but alternate picking instead.

for all the people who are wondering if AJ left The Human Abstract. well he did. he said that he didn't think he could get on stage and play metal any longer, so he left and is going to a music school to learn more about classical guitar. who knows he might end up coming back, but i doubt it. thanx, Inferno117

Dude my tube screamer makes my amp what it is. I love my pedal.
@smiff000916 жыл бұрын
It's a major scale, but played a little differently than how you may have learned it. It's just a different shape of it. Also, the string skipping makes it sound different. He actually uses this pattern in the chorus of movement from discord.

YEAH MAN!!!!!! You are totally correct. I listened to them right from when they released their demo and then was blown away by Nocturne. But Midheaven doesn't have the same feel or style. I WISH SOOOOOO BAD, that I had of gone to one of their concerts before they split. WORST DECISION EVER!!!!
@smiff000916 жыл бұрын
no actually, it's just a different shape of the major scale. People usually learn it a different shape because there's not as much stretching. It's the same scale but yeah there are 3 notes/string. Basically it moves the third note in the scale to the 6th string, and so on. Nocturne.
@cloud04108915 жыл бұрын
it's more important to know what amp he used. pedals like the tubescreamer are just for a good boost.

@xouris123 I suppose you're right, there isn't a right or wrong way to do it. But when I, personally, practice chromatics I like to hit every note in the scale (so you go up a string and back a fret).. so when I saw this i was like wat.. Still, AJ is a shredding bad ass, and he can do whatever the fuck he wants!

No he was doing it to exercise single notes per string. Now way can he pick it that way live.

Why was he alternate picking the arpeggios in the beginning? Was that solely as an exercise? He doesn't ACTUALLY do that when he's playing in the real solos does he?

its funny how he was the head of a metal band, so advanced with guitar technique and what not.. but he's not even into that stuff which was why he left THA. he mostly listens to classical, post-rock and indie. if he was amazing in a metal band, imagine how good he would be playing/writing something he actually enjoys.
