wrong Friday 25 May 2007 5:10 PM Holiday makers had a disrupted journey on their flight to Majorca when the plane hit a weather balloon. Passengers initially thought the plane exploded as there was a loud bang and the plane dropped thousands of feet. The Thomson flight was enroute from East Midlands Airport to Majorca, Spain when the collision occurred. The pilot made an emergency landing at Barcelona Airport where the passengers were kept for 8 hours before flying on to Majorca.

What a bunch of cry babies! For your information this is not banned, it is a proposed regulation. I do not think for one minute this will crash any jet. Any commercial airliner that can be brought down by colliding with an RC plane is certainly not worth flying in or safe to fly. If that was the case planes would be dropping like flies every time they slammed into high flying birds. I wish you people would stop blowing this all out of proportion to any real threat! It is nonsense like this that has the HAA wasting stupid time trying to ban all RC flying above 10ft... I for one think it is awesome that people like this are pushing the limits of current technology.

fantastic as usual alex! i really enjoy your videos. i get a kick out of how you've taken a mid-range system 2.4Ghz and turned it extreme long range rather than goint the dragonlink route. two questions: a) what solars are you using and are they actually generating enough electricity to make up for the added weight b) do you have any regulating bodies like the FAA that you can call prior to a high altitude flight so as to reduce the risk of an incident?

The main reason I would never really do this is because if you cause damages to an aircraft on an IFR flight plan even if no lives lost, you can be in deep shit. Skydivers are legally NOT allowed to fall through clouds and even if it was unavoidable, if an FAA person is at the drop zone and sees it, they have the right to pull that persons skydiving rating. Also, if I am not mistaken , ALL airspace above 15,000 feet is commercial airspace.

Flying FPV illegal? I don't know where you got that from, but FPV flying isn't banned in France or any EU country for that matter. It's only being proposed to restrict FPV flying, not to ban it all together. I can't even think of any country on the planet that banned FPV, just proposed restrictions like I mentioned.

I agree with Peter.. An airliner that would hit one of these tiny quad copters would be like hitting a pigeon. What a bunch of un-informed comments worrying about hitting a quad copter. These people must have voted for Bozoma. Their IQ's are about 40. Don't worry about the altitude just go and have fun. These are great tools.
@BVSLR
@BVSLR 10 жыл бұрын
Aircraft hitting birds the size of pigeons can cause significant damage, and if it is the windscreen, it may incapacitate the pilot. Spotting a hobby sized R/C aircraft is also nearly impossible. This type of FPV can absolutely kill people, and will indeed force regulatory measures to be taken, given that "common sense" is not so common.

I think he was kind of in the middle of where the normal commarcial altitude. Usualy commercial planes go up to 30,000. while normal personalized aircraft can go up to 10.000 feet. Sure normal aircraft can go above 10.000 but you will probably run out of oxygen. Now he was about 20.000-24.000 feet. And its not a car so you cant look at it in 2 dimensions. Probability of a plane hitting that little aircraft is VERY low since normal aircraft follow a grid that they fly every time. Almost.

For one weather balloons have permits and are also displayed on radar and the pilot is informed by atc where they are. To fly an ultralight you are still required to have a sport pilot license. As for meteors, space debri and birds they are part of nature and still bring down planes. The point is flying an Fpv above 400 feet is illegal because it endangers manned aircraf According to the FAA it is a privilege to be able to fly Rc aviation in their airspace and you must abide by their rules.

There are more near miss reports with balloons out there and also collisions/near misses with uav/fpv flyers but I figured that it would take only one to prove you wrong, including one here in Australia when some clown got into the jet wash of a landing aircraft deliberately, prompting an investigation.I fly fpv and I agree that what you are doing is incredibly safe when in the right hands and flown in the right places.The problem is they are sometimes not!
