I've lived with chronic neck and back pain for the past 22 years, daily pain that can get bad. It came on after I renounced materialist paganism and turned to Christ. I've been a Catholic for the past 18 years. This explanation of "offering up" my pain really made it much more beautiful. I was going by St Paul's explanation in Colossians, but this expands upon that. Thank you! And my Protestant friends deny that one can offer up his suffering for others. They don't seem to be familiar with that passage in Colossians, which is pretty odd for those who trust in Scripture alone. I try to direct them to that.

Thank you Father Brent for making this so beautifully clear and the image it produced of Jesus offering each one’s 2:22 2:23 individual suffering to God the Father is wonderful and makes it easier to offer our sufferings for more light to come onto the world to dispel more darkness.

My mom was protestant but had a Catholic therapist who repeatedly told her, "Love is sacrifice." She lived that way sacrificing herself, taught me that "love is sacrifice" instead of teaching me to take care of myself, then she got a stress related illness and died, and I now struggle with valuing myself. It's a habit where I always put others' needs before my own. Similar to codependency. I'm just not so sure about this theology. Jesus paid it all. I'm pretty anti-Catholic now.

Well I just saw Fr Brent on Renewal Ministries and watched this video too. I've heard the phrase "Offer it up" a few times in my life (59 yrs). I still have no idea what the hell you are talking about. You make some pretty big claims. I don't believe you. Prove it. Please...

Jesus chose to suffer for us and offered His suffering to God for our redemption. Since through our Baptism we are members of Christ’s Body, we can offer our own sufferings in union with His suffering for the redemption of our own souls and those of others. Thus, suffering has much value. We participate with Jesus in the salvation of the world. All this is Biblical and the 2000 year old teaching of the Church.

@@limoncellosmith7594 Okay - show me. Give an example of how this has worked in your life.
@limoncellosmith75942 жыл бұрын
@@cookclan I offer all my sufferings to Jesus, united with his sacrifice of Himself for us, for the salvation of my soul and for that of others. In doing so, my suffering is mitigated because it is no longer futile, depressing, or frustrating. It has a purpose, and that purpose is joyful. This is the practical example you are asking for. You will need to experience it yourself. No one can tell you anything more. It is a matter of faith, hope, and charity. If you find yourself with any kind of suffering that seems useless, frustrating, overwhelming, etc--offer it to God for His use. And see what happens.
