Fr. Mike Schmitz "The Marks of a True Christian Man" - Arlington Diocese Men's Conference 2018

Fr. Mike Schmitz is a priest for the Diocese of Duluth, Minn. He currently runs the Newman Center at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and is also the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry for the Diocese. He is known nationally for his videos and social and digital presence.
"Act when it is time to act, fight when it is time to fight, and lead," Fr. Mike Schmitz said to a rapt audience of more than 700 at the #MensConference. "I am able to serve my bride, friends, and family when I need to serve them."
If we look past or forward, continued Fr. Mike Schmitz, we miss what is in the present. "The first mark of a man is to be an adult, to take responsibility, to embrace responsibility, and to take accountability."
On March 3, under the theme “Marked Men: Called to Greatness,” more than 700 participants at the 2018 Men’s Conference filled St. Joseph Church, in Herndon, to capacity.
“As baptized men - as Catholic men - we are marked with the seal of God and marked for greatness,” said Nico Panlican, an organizer of the sold-out event.
Bishop Michael F. Burbidge of the Diocese of Arlington, Fr. Mike Schmitz of the Diocese of Duluth, Minn., and Billy Atwell, Chief Communications Officer for the Arlington Diocese, were the main speakers, facilitating discussions among the attendees through talk backs, breakout sessions and a question and answer panel.

Re: that letter from the mom whose son is becoming "uber" Catholic. Fr. Mike, I wonder if that son was her oldest and the first to go off to college. She was learning about all of these new experiences AFTER they happened. Moms (like me!) miss it when their sons, who once were so eager to share news with them first, are no longer including them "in the loop". I think she can be very pleased with the person her son is becoming, while at the same time grieving that close relationship they once had.

Limbo was never an official church teaching or doctrine. It was a medieval theological opinion on what might happen to unbaptized babies. You as an atheist would risk an eternity separated from God (hell) unless you come to know, accept and have a relationship with Jesus Christ.

I knew a few wonderful men who cannot make up their minds of commitment. Possibly because today they have more options to do whatever to fill their needs. Contraception and the hook up culture are to blame. They've destroyed our human relationships. They not only allow the men to play their games but also they've rendered the men almost incapable of assuming any responsibility. Perhaps men will likely to think they have more freedom not to assume any conseqences of their acts... but the emotional backlash that it causes is actually beyond measure. We see broken men and women as a result... and would likely settle for a relationship less than what they truly deserve. And most likely end up in relationships that they actually don't want to be into - like what Fr. Mike we like to be somewhere else and do something else.
