I was thinking of other generations for Spartans beyond 1 through 4. 5th Generation is an Insurrectionist experiment to make Spartans using a variety of drug cocktails and DNA modification using CRSPR however drawbacks and side effects that drastically decreased the lifespan. 6th Generation was a UNSC rush to refill the ranks of Spartans after their losses at the Banished and Created. However with the rushed creation it wasn't much better than the 5th generation by the inners. 7th Generation was the one focused on bio-enhancement stability. Performance applicants didn't have the strength and speed of prior generations but enhancement casualties were dropped down to an unprecedented 0.01%. 8th Generation was a technology focused project in attempts to adopt power armor to be wearable by applicants without the need for augmentation.

Funny enough, that lore description you came up with to canonize Yoroi was already kinda done for two Halo 5 armors (one is Shinobi I think) where those armors where found by the UNSC on abandoned unidentified ships, implying there's hidden insurrectionist groups trying to replicate Mjolnir tech with war leftovers and scraps. I don't know why they didn't just go with that direction with the Fracture armors, it makes all the more sense in a post-Created setting.

I dont know much on my halo 5 lore but if its an unidentified ship that's been abandoned then I believe it's from a different universe. The insurrectionists aren't really that smart to have ships that are not registered by the UNSC and even so the armor they have doesn't seem to be bootleg which begs the question who has the resources to make one that looks like it came straight from the factory?

I don't even think halo is in a good state to be having multi verses already. Its not like the MCU where they spent years building it up. We only had like 3 games in the last decade and those games barley pushed the lore forward that much as they barley continued off each other. Halo needs to have a solid foundation for it to start having multiverses and it doesn't. It reminds me of when studio wildcard kept making ark spin off games that got abandoned after 2 weeks because they didn't even finish the main base ark game and had to go back to that. I should also mention that having these armors not being canon makes me not care that much about the armor or the lore behind them at all. I didn't even know the Samurai sets had lore until this video. Of course all the lore is behind a waypoint article instead of actually being in the game which is an unfortunate trend it seems with the halo lore now.

Something that has always bothered me about all the numerous Mjolnir variants is that Mjolnir from the beginning has been stupid expensive to produce. I may be wrong but I remember somthing a line in one of the books saying that for what I cost to make enough armor for the original Spartan-IIs the UNSC could have built a heavy cruiser or two. With the Spartan-IIIs they were meant to be cheap, hence the SPI armor. Only the Headhunters and teams like Noble got actual Mjolnir. So granted with the IVs there are apparently hundreds of Spartans now, but theres also a hundred something variants of Mjolnir, plus all the other 'Mjolnir compatible' armors. I know tech gets cheaper as it time and technology progresses, but are there really companies spending that much money to sell a couple thier brand new product line to the UNSC? And would UNSC procurement really shell out for hyper-specialized varients for niche uses when the base platform is good enough?
@alexwingace
@alexwingace Жыл бұрын
iirc Spartan III's were VERY cheap to produce, and IV's were doubly so. And with the fact that it seems that they can mass-produce Spartan-IVs with little issue (since they can make them out of existing UNSC personnel without major issue afaik), I imagine the market for Mjolnir upgrades/specialist variants would become decently large. Especially since the III's and IV's just simply do not hold a candle to the power and versatility of a Spartan II. They may be cheaper and more numerous, but i feel their overall effectiveness also took a pretty steep dive.

I think it's okay if we get these little glimpses into fractures universes because I think they can be so different but also so similar. That said, I think it should only be done if they can do it alongside existing halo content. To be honest, I don't think Fractures would be such a big "issue" if there was something akin to a seasonal storyline for Infinite and the Fractures stuff was just "on the side" a la how Destiny has the Dares of Eternity as a non-canon multiversal dumping ground. But because there's no sense of progression with the seasonal "narrative" so far, it just feels like dead air, like an ad campaign inbetween some KZbin shorts. Save the Fractures stuff for a one-or-two-off anthology book focusing on the Fractures, not a halo way point post. Personally, I find the idea of Fractures enticing *because* we only get glimpses into them. For me, a lot of Halo- and sci-fi in general- is almost too world-built, where there's not enough room for interpretation and discussion, where the answer is in some obscure lore volume. I like the sense of discovery that comes from a more skeletal approach to storytelling. But that is my preference, and people's preferences are not good or bad, just different. I think the issue that 343 keeps stumbling into is this idea that they can please everybody. Combined with the vocal part of the halo fan base that wants halo to be exactly like it was when they were growing up (which is impossible), there seems to be this idea within 343 culturally that they can find some golden mean to please every single fan. But that's not true. People are going to be displeased.

Honestly both Eaglestrike and Rakshasa (though the latter is obviously not Fractures) would be really cool as potential Insurrectionist armor, given how thrown-together and personalized they tend to look. There's already an in-lore drug (I believe it's called a rumbledrug?) that was a sort of improvised spartan augmentation used by rebel forces (though it had a fuckton of negative side effects that often killed their users before they ever got the chance to even fight one), imagine if while the UNSC was dealing with both Pseudo-skynet and the red space monkeys, some Rebel groups managed to perfect the compound and produce pseudo-spartans that could theoretically take out a Spartan if they manage to overwhelm it.

Given how the Created decimated the UNSC, i imagine their OPSEC is less than optimal, and I could see some Innie groups getting their hands on the knowledge/materials to be able to ACTUALLY produce their own Spartan-IV level soldiers. Alright, I thought I could do my own lore for Tenrai (Samurai guys), Entrenched (WW1 guys) and the new Chimera (Crysis guys). *Tenrai:* Misriah Armory and their allies are in shambles after Created and Forerunner armor and weapons dominated the battles. So, a new company from modern-day Japanese islands (If you want deep lore, make them the guys that made the first Shaw - *Fujikawa* engines) tried to make their own MJOLNIR. After all, they made the old "Hayabusa" armor. However, after a decade of strenghtening of armors, the "MJOLNIR" and the "YOROI" are now two separate armors. YOROI is made with more patience and personality for it. They are literally hand-crafted for each warrior. They also make guns thanks to *shady deals with ONI.* *Entrenched:* The "MJOLNIR" and "YOROI" armors are more hand-crafted and better, the "EAGLESTRIKE" armors have a final ace up their sleeve: They can be operated by non-Spartan personnel. That means they are worser when compared to the other armors, but can be manufactured in bigger numbers thanks to their "cheap" cost and maintenance, along with not having the problem of making more Spartans. Thanks to this, ONI and Dr. Halsey created a new type of Spartan-IVb , which are even cheaper (although I´m not really sure how well this fits in with the rest of canon). They also make low-quality UNSC weapons. However, both of those started to be favored by Spartan thanks to their easier maneuvaribility, so upgraded EAGLESTRIKEs are now used. *Chimera:* The MJOLNIR armor is already linked with it´s user, however even more can be achieved. The so-called "CHIMERA" armors are experimental and only tested on selected Spartans. The goal is to make a undefeatable armor for Headhunters and surviving Spartan-IIs and Spartan-IIIs willing to make this painful trainsformation. The armor is linked with it´s user through not a few cables going to the brain, but through nerves. It is painful during the transformation, however the Spartans that come out can outmaneuver any type of vehicle thanks to their crazy fast neurolink.

For me personally, I think that the samurai armor does still look like something that the UNSC would make. Like it doesn’t look that different from traditional spartan armor, it just kind of has more Japanese culture infused into it. If 343 decided to go in a more out there direction with the samurai core then I could see it being like oh this is an illegal spartan armor, but as it is now that armor just looks like something that the UNSC would make

the entrenched suit can easily be a makeshift heavy variant of a stuck unsc colony with a spartan outpost. basicly heavy bukaneer. the chimera suit could be experimental covenant assembly forge integration (like the nanosuit has alien tech) and could leave detectable assembly bots in the spartans neural interface, so it needs revision. black market yoroi sounds fine. even some of the wacky mcc armor could work that way: the medieval stuff being a design study for armor and cbrn effectiveness. the norse stuff being the results of a far of frozen colony being emp'ed by the created into darkness and supersticion (and modifying their damaged unsc gear with norse looking stuff). the ancient greece things could be a prototype for gen2 achilles and a few modifications of that.

I have a theory, 343 doesn't want to make Halo. The last 2 games had a massive departure with the art style and only returned to the old style when we got upset, their games don't explore the universe like the Bungie games did and instead try to flesh out Master Chief, they put more effort into their non-halo alternate reality cores then they do with their canon multiplayer lore. They either don't like the universe, or they don't know what they're doing and as they signed off on the Halo series which was written by people who didn't know or like the game lore I'm leaning towards they would rather do anything else but Halo.

By explore the universe you mean like halo reach where a completely fucked up the lore and spit in the face of the author of The Fall Of Reach when they decided to take a massive shit all over that book when they made a game with vastly inferior writing?????? Remember the time when Bungie couldn't even say consistent with their own characters. In Halo 2 truth and Miranda couldn't be any more different than the Halo 3 counterparts. I mean holy s*** the people in charge of the Halo Paramount show wrote her character way better than whatever nincompoop was in charge of the writing for Halo 3. Hell that's not even get into the fact that the god-awful writers for Halo 3 turned truth into a cliche cartoon villain instead of the smart sophisticated it calculating villain that was in Halo 2. Bungee doesn't even bother explaining why he's character did a complete 180 out of nowhere

IMO, Fractures could definitely work if there were cutscenes, similar to Destiny 2 Ink page cutscenes. then it could look like that aesthetic topic you mentioned, what would master chief look like as a Space Nazi, what would master chief look like as a Samurai and use that to explore a "what if" scenario in lore, like what if the Covenant won against earth in halo 2, or what if John was the one that died to the covenant and Sam had to take his place. and in terms of the development side, I think that it would be best if there was a separate team of writers and designers working on the fractures with 343's schedule. in other words, use the main story to progress the current franchise and fractures as events of new flavors to keep players busy, and if a fracture was popular, bring it back with more lore, so that lore nerds can explore a new style of halo. Same restaurant, new menus kinda thing

Another easy justification for some of the more wacky armours is maybe a Spartan got stranded in space for a while and while waiting for rescue they messed around with their armour and made some Samurai stuff. They literally already did this with Halo 4.

Hell, take this concept in a new direction and say that rather than other companies making their own Spartan armor, individual colonies are running their own black ops Spartan programs. Brand new augmentations, brand new military cultures that embrace elements of the former insurrectionist movement. Make that interplay a focus of multiplayer. New Fracture event? Well, the 'academy' or w/e nabbed a new splinter faction Spartan and their armor is being run in war game simulation, testing its efficacy, etc. and onboarding the new faction into the UNSC coalition as it is rebuilding itself. Then it's not out of place when the samurai and Crysis bootleg is in your match. At the same time, they would be acknowledging that the UNSC basically has nothing, shows us the consequence of that, and gives us context for stuff that can happen throughout whatever they do with the singleplayer. Lean into the absurdity and actually expand Halo, you cowards!

Having other companies produce spartan armour is a cool idea. They could give the companies cool names like Materials Group, Imbrium Machine Complex, Ushuaia Armory, Naphtali Contractor Corporation, Lethbridge Industrial, Watershed Division, Hannibal Weapon Systems, Acheron Security, Chalybs Defense Solutions or Special Warfare Center. Just spitballing off the top of my head here. With the in game multiplayer being a war games simulation they could even add in armours that are just digital prototypes used for testing before they enter proper production. I can't believe 343 didn't think of something like this before. The fans would love it.

7:20 Toyota would make a set that they would not give to the UNSC and say they don't want their armour associated with war, and say it's just for civilian uses, like construction and stuff like that despite it could still function as armour for soldiers. But then they would just give some suits away to a private military group not even associated with Toyota. Yes I'm still shitty that Toyota says shit like not wanting their cars associated with street racing and then just give some of the new Supras to the set of the most recent Fast&Furious movie. Despite F&F having far worse and more illegal things than just street racing.

Honestly, while I love the fractured cores(other than Chimera), I feel like they don't just take away from potential Halo lore, making spin-off alternate universe lore, but they also leech off of content that could be made for the primary battle pass cores we get with each season, leading to season cores and fracture cores both having less customization than if one or the other was the sole core focused on for the given season. I'd still like to see cores like Tenrai or Eagestrike, but in-universe, and as the sole focus of a season, with their own in-universe lore. The Tenrai core could have easily been produced either by joint operations with the Swords of Sangheilios, or could originate from whatever Japanese culture in the year 2558 is. The Entrenched core could have been mjolnir modified by insurrectionists, Ironman style. And the Chimera core, as much as I hate it, could've been some type of experimental Oni stealth suit.

I'm late to comment on this but I still wanted to. I completely agree with all that was mentioned. To me, they didn't have to make up the Fractures events for stuff like the Yoroi. For the Yoroi, all they had to do was make a backstory like a Japanese government firm or weapons branch for the UNSC wanted to have Spartan security donning Samurai based MJOLNIR that was made with as much tradition as ancient samurai armor. Boom, done. For armors like the Entrenched one, or the Chimera, I could understand having those be more fictional contrasting the current canon mythos. In either capacity, rather than trying to do some season based story in the academy (which currently is failing) they could've just done short story events around these Fractures cores as well as game modes to support them. Hell, I'd rather have Spartan Ops again at this point since the seasons are progressing too slowly to even narrate them. If they don't implement a more impactful story into the Academy, it's not gonna have any appeal. I mean, when they add in the SPI/Mirage armor, I'd really love to see some badass story about Headhunter Spartans or the Spartan IIIs of Onyx kicking ass, but that'll never likely happen. They could even have introduced maps themed on the eras these fracture armors came from and probably much more, just brainstorming.

Just to note, certain real life special forces can often choose to buy their own equipment not used by the military. Navy Seals for example, can use any of the military's standard issue weapons, but operators also have the ability buy their own weapon or add aftermarket kits to their guns. So for Spartans(which are basically super special forces in halo), it wouldn't be too unreasonable to say that they could also buy their own armor parts from other armor manufacturers for whatever reason they need to. also also, sometimes soldiers will just where wear things that have 0% practicality but 100% what they think is cool. their are real life examples of Operators wearing moto badges, a skull vest, and a red bandana.

I'm fine with the banished, but the Endless or "Xalanyn" things? it's just too much to have to understand: Why is the UNSC dying to Cortanas army in Halo 5 but then, it's immediately taken out 3 to 4 years later? Your on-the-spot justification is actually somewhat similar to the reasoning for how the Monarch Titan in Titanfall 2 came to be. It being basically a bootleg Vanguard-class Titan (based on two burnt up remains of Vanguards found after the end of the campaign), the Monarch was an attempt to replicate the adaptability of the Vanguard, but since the Vanguard was too advanced, Vinson Dynamics instead brought their own innovations to the Monarch to be adaptable in its own right. While they attempted to keep it a secret, it eventually leaked onto the black market, with mercenary Pilots fielding them and independent manufacturers producing their own Monarchs.

I really like your idea of different manufacturers trying to make their own Spartan armor maybe even have the lore say that there was a leak of information and now it's basically public knowledge how the UNC actually makes their Spartans. Maybe you could even have it that some companies have scooped up profits that were out of a job after the covenant collapsed to work on these technologies in exchange for protecting them from former covenant species who hate them. I feel like this is all indicative of the fact that the developers at 343 don't really want to work on Halo they want to work on their own original project what are forced to continue to be the Halo studio

I agree with the idea that these other cores are alternative manufacturers due to the collapse of the UNSC but a nitpick I have is them being illegal because why would they allow Spartans to keep it? It makes more sense to say the UNSC became much more liberal with their contracting. Also, another idea: The samurai core could be a decorative/ceremonial/parade core made to inspire a good portion of humanity in the wake of the collapse, connecting these new heroes with the (imagined) majesty of feudal Japan and, most importantly, Earth.

They have enough canon armour to draw from in MKIV, MKV, MKVI, MKVII, MKIV/V B, SPI and stuff like the MKIII prototype. They each have a distinct style and they could retroactively design some cool sets for pre-Halo 3 canon armour. Hell, even the novelty of having the older MJOLNIR variants modelled in similar technical style to their respective games would sell nicely. They have an easy lineage to draw upon, to really flesh out a game that could be a 10 year live service and visually a definitive Halo experience. Having the ability to rock your favourite set whether you’ve been playing since 2004 or 2015 is the kind of community embracing PE that makes the 10-year live service narrative believable for Infinite. Non-Halo fans aren’t being drawn in when they see so much negativity from Halo fans, you get a larger playerbase by doing well by your existing community (see: FFXIV). Also who the fuck needs a narrative in multiplayer? I don’t need a lore reason to be playing 4v4 slayer, I just want fun gameplay.
