My biggest issue with Spartan ops tbh was 343s method of “increasing difficulty”, being the larger amount of enemies with power weapons, dealing more damage and with better reaction times. To the point of sniper crawlers or jackals everywhere and every elite and grunt having a fuel rod. The mode itself, I genuinely enjoyed on launch and am still sad on how badly it’s implemented in MCC. I always enjoy co-op “spec ops” type modes
@ouroboricscribe3201

It also didn't help that every elite could now throw grenades, every grunt could overcharge their plasma pistol, enemy shields would recharge nearly triple as fast as before, knights would teleport constantly negating damage and regenerating shields.

I wasn't really a Halo fan back then, but CoD Treyarch zombies probably had a similar situation back in the day. I remember in the BO1 - BO3 days every time a new map came out people would spend MONTHS looking for easter eggs, references to past maps or story lines, or theorizing about where the story was going next. The zombies subreddit was constantly filled with people posting little details they noticed, asking questions, or debating about the lore. The hype each new map brought was palpable.

Although I feel that there were too many similar missions, Spartan Ops still had a great story and had several fun and unique missions like the attack on the Infinity, stealing a power supply from a Lich, and fighting through the Harvester. It helped make me feel that my multiplayer spartan was actually important to the story, and gave me motivation to level up and unlock cooler armor, things I feel Infinite still desperately needs.

13:41 The issue isn't just only that they're lacking the motivation and will to refine and fine-tune the experiments they put out, but they never learn from them. Before they move on, it's like they completely forget that they even TRIED to experiment and change things up. No notes taken, no feedback listened to, and nothing new learned. In a way, the Spartan Ops being one of the biggest and earliest experiments 343 tried to conduct is respresenting them as a company. Small things are like normal and heroic difficulty. We ignore it, we use it or we straight up make 343 remove it / nerf it. And just like the enemies across all 50 or so of those missions, they just keep coming in the same fashion and never change. Bigger things are like Legendary difficulty. We keep throwing ourselves at the enemies like we throw everything we can at 343 to fix what they've done. Maybe we get past it like we might get the issue changed / removed, or maybe we ultimately give up and repeat the cycle on the next mission / issue.

I always loved Spartan ops. It reminded me of Reach seeing my custom Spartan in a mission that has a storyline. The problem with it was recycled maps , weapons despawning too quick, , too many enemies if you were solo and the fact that the cutscenes didn’t follow your Spartan fireteam but rather fireteam majestic. I do love Firefight but I’d prolly prefer Spartan Ops. Anything over war zone though.

Honestly all 3 modes on their own range from good, to conceptually good. Firefight makes a lot of sense for wargame sims, Spartan Ops makes a lot of sense for actual missions, and Warzone was an interesting twist on the BTB format to up the ante. All three have a place in Halo and should return in Halo Infinite.

I remember playing Halo 4 Spartan Ops and loved the mode because of the narrative and the fact I was using my spartan. It had its flaws as you mentioned, but I just liked the idea of seasonality. In particular, season 2 was a better experience overall. But the fact that Spartan Ops replaced Firefight was probably also one more motive of not liking it, to which I agree: Firefight allows you to play arcade, no need to set out a story. You can set the rules and have fun. Spartan Ops can work as its own thing for Infinite, and I hope they do so. The fact the cutscenes in Infinite are now from the engine, it should be easier to produce at the same time of the missions, or at least a some sort of working mini-mission. Anyway I wish the best for Halo Infinite, especially for this third season, which seems to be more robust than Season 1 and 2.

Before I watch the video, I'm just gonna say that spartan ops in halo infinite would probs just be the purple campaign objectives turned into an arcade mode. Or that's how I'd do it, and it's plausible for 343 to do in a shortish amount of time.

Was really wary of Spartan Ops early on because it was so ambitious in continuing post-game story content. Even as a starting off point series-wise, I was getting very early callbacks of scifi shows like Stargate SG-1, which relied heavy on the camaraderie of the cast, which our missions were largely outside those interactions of the main cast.

Ya, had they split spartan ops into two parts similar to halo2 spliting of the campaign i think it could have been good, at least in the story department, like if we played our spartan if we got to select one of the majestic team members, giving replayability in that they have seperate objectives that could be dealt with in in game dialogue, like when hoya runs in like a jackass getting injured they could make that a seperate ovjective that leads to the cutscene but it only prompts the player playing that character. But a flip flop of what you are doing and what they are doing through gameplay would have been ideal, reducing revisiting the same locations and reducing the total levels but making them longer and feel more like standard levels would have fixed that easily, 2 to 3 levels per episode and not giving up after 1 season that was released in 2 parts. Not having the cutscenes kick you from the game would have been great too

I loved Spartan Ops. It was a second campaign that made your multiplayer spartan canon. It was episodic, so once a week you had a new mission to look forward to. I dunno how they could make it work for infinite, but I think 343 might could find a way to bring it back. But on the flip side I remember it being kinda unbalanced. Like there were more than a few missions where I got killed over and over and over either by a crawler sniper or a knight with a incineration cannon.

My biggest hang up with Spartan Ops was the narrative was based around Fireteam Majestic, but when it came to actually playing the game, you played as the random Fireteam Crimson. You would watch these cool cutscenes that didn’t involve the character you played as ever. Also during gameplay you would be told about all the cool stuff Fireteam Majestic was doing, and it felt like you were basically there to clean up there mess or just support them in some way. It was weird. And I get it, this was because of the budget which was one of the main topics of this video, but I just wanted to share that, at least from what I remember from a decade ago 💀.

So I played the episodic co-op feature the incorrect way, solo. There you can really see the flaws as it depended on "your friends" to make the fun and the story telling was not bad, but not very imemersive. Also it seems like a cheap campaign with the reuse of the maps, especially when one of the maps "two headed giant" was simply H4 Valhalla I couldn't help but feel that they should have just given us the tools in Forge to spawn NPCs and then we could have made our own custom campaigns. Either way I'm not going to go against them brining it back, I would suggest giving us tools to make our own co-op/solo levels.

The worst part of Spartan Ops single player was dying. Due to the short weapon despawn time and character respawn position, a death basically ruined the mission. I played Spartan Ops by myself, and I gotta tell you, it's not meant for single player play. I feel like it could've modified the enemy numbers depending on how many players there were, so that playing in single player wouldn't be so painful. I also would've liked to see more unique geometry instead of reused levels over and over again. I would like to see it return, but alongside Firefight. I feel like they could make it a lot better if they tried again. Then again, they also made Halo Infinite so who knows.

Always thought Spartan Ops was under appreciated, the concept and ideas behind it. However I completely understood the gripes as time went on. Made a point to replay them all in MCC recently. Imho it started off strong with the first episode, fell off quickly with the next few, but with a soild mission here and there, before having a kick ass send off with the last 3 episodes. Fighting through the Infinity was very enjoyable to me and the last Forerunner fortress was a breath of fresh air. About the gripes. Prometheans f***ing sucked to fight no two ways about it. Ai spawns were cheap as all get out with knights spawning and then instantly teleporting on top of you, or power weapons enemies being everywhere and in mass. Too many memorable scenarios were just unfun and/or unfair and it spolied a lot of opinions. Finnaly the obvious reused maps/assets. In many ways I can say it felt like going through custom community content for any game, lota bad but some serious good.

None of my friends wanted to play through Spartan Ops so I had to go through the entire thing alone in MCC and my god was it the slowest grind ever. Sidenote, please for the love of god can Halo, Call of Duty, etc please stop making multiplayer canon? I'm fine with having story cutscenes and all that but it really limits certain things. Mainly in CoD. Like in MW19, every map had to be set in Verdansk and the surrounding area. Because story wise the characters were all there. There couldn't be maps set across the globe like older installments because the writers would have to find a way to get those characters to that location. They don't really have that issue with Halo Infinite thankfully. But that might be because there's barely a story in multiplayer.

Nail on the head with the "Why am I playing this?" in regards to Spartan Ops. I just got tired of playing these really repetitive and recycled mission environments just to get the next cutscene. 343i need to be allowed to bulk up and have more resources to bring Infinite to its full potential. We should have Spartan Ops as a mode returned back with stories that span quality missions instead of quantities of missions. Let our Spartans get out there and fight the Banished, fight jackal pirates, fight rogue prometheans and AIs, not every mission has to be galaxy ending stakes either. Bonus points for getting the Spartan chatter VAs to narrate cutscenes our Spartans are in.

I had something to look forward to every week, none of it was pre-paid content, and I'll always remember looking up guides for the RVB easter eggs. And they only put it on hold for December of 2013 only to pick it back up in January and wrapped up the series February. (I could be off on my dates but the fact that I still remember this goes to show how consistency can go a long way). Also, I know the loadout/perk system wasn't well received in Halo 4 and I agree it wasn't fitting in Multiplayer. But it felt right at home in Spartan Ops. Customizable loadouts work very well in social PVE environments, and I hope they'd do the same thing if they decide to bring the gamemode back or anything similar.

As one of the few players that actively played firefight in the Bungie era. The cult passion for Spartan Ops is due to the fact that Spartan Ops is the closest Firefight mode we ever got from 343. Warzone in Halo 5 was like Spartan Ops, but the req system made it a micro transaction hellscape. Halo Infinite doesn’t even have a firefight mode and it took years for 343 to push out forge. If we are ever to see firefight or Spartan Ops again, then the soonest we can expect it is after the release of Halo 7.

Ok hear me out: what about a mode that is a little like Spartan ops. >The narrative theme for the missions is something like spec ops. >The missions are randomly generated >Made of prefab map pieces e.g. corridors, big-enemy arenas, weapon locker rooms etc >each mission has a random visual theme for the map e.g. human colony, covenant ship, forerunner structure etc >Randomised enemy faction (e.g. banished, Covenant remnants, forerunner constructs) (with some handtouching e.g. prefabs will effect spawns so you don't get hunters in small corridors) >Randomised mission objectives e.g. take down a miniboss (e.g. a named elite with an inflated HP bar or something like a brute chieftan) or blow up a generator. >maybe add some XP collectables e.g. skulls or datalogs (gives you bonus xp for finding them) >Maybe add a forgemode for these missions so you use the prefabs to make your own missions >maybe a few other modifiers e.g. vehicle missions, flying missions, mission with allies I will admit this might require a fully fresh new game but I think it would be really fun with halo's gameplay (Even as a spinoff)

Something I just thought about for a potential new Spartan Ops, with the world bosses they A: Have a half decent boss system that makes the bosses feel like enemy commanders, and B: A bunch of vague flavortext that iirc mentions units, and campaigns, and battles It could be an excuse to bring back new weapons for gameplay variety and not have them overlap too much For example, for a few missions you're still fighting the Banished, but its a Lance or Regiment or Legion or whatever that likes its Spikers, Carbines and Fuel Rod Guns, and the next few missions you're fighting at another part of the front and encounter more Plasma Rifles, CE Style fuel rod guns, needle rifles, and then at another section in another mission its an airborne legion so tons of Jump Packs and Banshees. Having distinctive formations inside the Banished would make them feel more like a proper group, flesh out their insides and give us a reason to bring back TONS of older weapons or new gear, cause if its visually and audio-wise distinctive, and only a little gameplay distinctive, it still feels different, at least to me. Past that, we could also find new holdouts of UNSC, including groups like Army and Air Force, along with Navy, Marines and Spartans. A bunch of the UNSC Army's heavier gear, like the mobile Artillery and Self Propelled Anti Aircraft Weapons we see in Halo Wars, Grizzly Tanks, maybe even introduce a Bradley equivalent to back up the Warthog with a bit more punch in the form of an autocannon and SPNKR rockets? Having these new Marine groups deploy with DMRs, SMGs, MA5Bs and MA5Cs, SAWs, Magnums, the old Shotgun, Spartan Lasers, Grenade Launchers, Sticky Detonators, the Needler Machine Gun from Halo 5, bring the Mantis back and have us encounter specialist Marine units operating it, have the Air Force guys bring in Falcons, Sabers, Longswords and Broadswords, even as background detail, the UNSC portion could make it absolutely feel like you're building back up the UNSC, the campaign does that a little now I want it at a strategic scale, even if Crimson is only doing so much to make it feel like there's a real fight going on. I'd love to even see Covenant Remnants back, notably the Swords of Sangheilios and some Storm Faction equivalent. The Swords would always be allied, made up of Elites with small numbers of Grunts and Brutes in distinctively brighter-red and white gear, with gold accents for officers, and have tons of Plasma Rifles, Carbines, Energy Swords, Fuel Rod Guns on grunts, Halo 2 kinda Elite loadouts. The Storm Faction and similar groups could be a good third faction, relying a lot more on insurgency style tactics and ambushes. What if one mission, you're just walking through the woods, and the Marine next to you falls dead from a Beam Rifle round and a bunch of Elites start coming out of the trees? Or if they got ghosts absolutely rigged with high explosives and fusion coils on the idea that maybe they'll hit your Scorpion? Lots of ambushes, suicide attacks, hit-and-run attacks with what airpower they have left, enemies sometimes attacking, fading into the background with camo and coming back later if you don't spot them and kill them as they stalk you? Could 100% be some damn good shit

I think it would’ve been kinda cool if they’d only chosen to use a small number of more unique, perhaps larger maps, where the player could beat them and then replay them later as something more akin to actual Firefight (or replay in “story mode” again) from the previous games (with wave settings and all that). I think the downfall of Spartan Ops ended up being it’s mindset of quantity over quality, and it sucks a lot cuz I think it had a lot of potential. Hell, Halo 4 generally had a lot of potential, but it’s unfortunately not what I think it could’ve been. It’s not bad as a game overall, but 343 had opportunities to take the Halo franchise further in some areas, and it just fell a bit short of that. Sorta a side tangent, I honestly think though that my biggest issue with 4 and 5 is the art style alone. Like, if it looked more like Halo Wars 2 or Infinite’s art style, I genuinely think I would have loved 4 a lot more. I often wonder what the game could’ve looked like (i know there’s mods and such to change models, but like the environments and color palettes and lighting is just not the same) if they’d not aimed to make such a drastic change to Halo’s look.

Although I see the potential in spartan ops, and I would love to see spartan ops missions revolving around fighting the Banished. I think it be better for 343 to implement firefight first. Especially if they implement campaign ai into forge and possibly give players the ability to make their own firefight maps and gamemodes. I think their is infinite potential there. I also don’t know if I trust 343 to keep a consistent content flow with a spartan ops gamemode, especially because they’ve only just gotten around to improving multiplayer. I wouldn’t be outraged if they added spartan ops though. I would just want the missions to be of a better quality standard than in Halo 4.

So this was probably one of my favorite things from a halo game at the time. I was there every Monday a new week came out to blast through it. Loved the idea of continuing the story of the game with my spartan. Allowed for some cool moments and further development of Requim and secondary characters from the main game. I would have loved to see it continued to be implemented albeit with improvements. 343 was lazy with how the mode would get harder, mostly just more power weapons, and what not. But I would love to see more spartan ops

The problem I've always seen with these types of co-op modes is they consistently fail at replicating the campaign experience in any meaningful way. I still remember the lead up to the release of Modern Warfare 2, and the things we were hearing about Spec Ops; that Spec Ops was going to be its own unique campaign, with its own story, tailor-made for co-op. Imagine my disappointment when it turned out to be...not that. We didn't get anything remotely like that until the 2019 reboot of MW, and what we ended up getting was basically Halo 4 Spartan Ops but in Call of Duty. We'd get a big fancy cutscene, and then get unceremoniously dumped into a multiplayer map/campaign cutout to play a bad horde mode with vague objectives added to it. No set-pieces (it lacks the spectacle that the campaign has in its levels), no character development (our characters are just generic multiplayer people with no personality or goals), no feeling that we're advancing the plot of the series' universe (almost everything you do is completely inconsequential to the next game in the series), and nothing that feels like it NEEDS co-op to function (no branching path system like in Gears of War co-op campaign, or multiple objectives requiring the duo/squad to split up; OG MW2/3 Spec Ops at least had a few missions that required 2 people, with one of them in a helicopter/gunship). I think this, more than anything else, is what a mode like this needs to be successful. Stop giving us horde mode with objectives; give us a real campaign designed with co-op in mind.

The main reason I got into halo was my childhood friend got me to play the campaign with him co-op, and from then on I've played every single halo game co-op. For me the halo series is more about playing co-op with friends with their unique narrative, rather than just the mindless repetitive PvP. That's why when spartan ops came out I loved it. A way to kill some aliens with friends and feel like a badass with the Spartan you've spent days getting to look the way you like. With how halo infinite multiplayer is a free to play service that's focusing heavily on Spartan customization, it would be cool to see said Spartans take part in large over the top missions kicking some banished ass. And give some much needed variety to their gameplay

I'd love to see a Spartan Ops for Infinite that involves a squad of players' multiplayer Spartans as one of those fireteams stranded on Zeta Halo prior to the Chief's awakening. Imagine being on different parts of the ring, running strike ops against the Banished, doing things like securing a Silent Cartographer, running reconnaissance on the Control Room, dealing with a Flood outbreak in a Flood Containment Facility, disabling Zeta Halo's firing mechanisms, stopping the Banished from utilizing a crashed Guardian Custode, the possibilities are Infinite (heh.)

What I find interesting is that 343 could have added the ordinance drops from multiplayer into spartan ops instead, it just makes more sense given the number of enemies you fight in every level. Like if you are playing alone, you could get a few items in each level where as if you are with a few more players your team could think about which ordinance to get, the bigger the and wide open the map is the more likely you could get say a pelican to destroy enemies for 20-30 seconds but if there isn’t much room or the map is small it could be the small pods for say a bubble shield or extra shields. Of course allowing you to have a weapon should not despawn quickly because that is the reason I don’t go for the power weapons, why get the rail gun or sniper when it might not be the right weapon to pick up and use and could be gone before you respawn and go back to retrieve it. On a different but similar note, if you think you hate halo 4’s gameplay on the legendary campaign, try spartan ops on legendary, it is possible to complete but it is annoying and is going to take you an hour or longer just to complete one level.

One sole reason: they want to use their custom Spartan in a PVE/campaign mode. Sure, there's firefight, but all the matchmaking servers are basically impossible to fail baby modes (at least the last time I tried in Reach) that get old for people who want a challenge. Also, firefight is limited to largely MCC.

One of the few things I'd always credited 343i with was Spartan Ops, actually. Not because it was necessarily good, but because it had a lot of potential that they could have expanded on and made into something truly epic. I was actually kinda let down when it didn't come back in some improved capacity in Halo 5, and would love to see it re-implimented in Infinite. And to your point: with the improvements to Forge and if they can get the AI mapping to work properly, the Forge community could actually do the legwork of establishing a skeleton for a revived Spartan Ops for 343i.

Pretty much because if our Spartans are canon, it made it feel like our characters were actually *doing* something other than training. Like, "Oh shit, our guys are actually going on missions!" but as you said, it was just done poorly when I really wish they went onto improve it. Also the reason I played Warzone Firefight a ton in H5 because it was like, finally my Spartan is being deployed so it was fun if you rp to yourself like that. No one cares about the Academy because in story we're not doing anything as Spartans narratively, we're watching other characters do stuff while we stand around and watch before it's back to training. If multiplayer wasn't canon this wouldn't be a problem but since it is, our characters canonically just train for months and do nothing else.

I like the idea of it playing more like a firefight game with narrative: - a collection of purpose-designed maps. - cutscenes before detailing why we’re going to that location. - waves and rounds of increasing difficulty/intensity. - limited lives, added to each round. - add in an assortment of objectives that are randomly selected from at certain intervals, add score if successfully completed. E.g., rescue some marines who spawn in a room at the edge of the map and get them to extraction. Drop a tank off and then have us defend a generator. Give us a bomb and destination. If failed, we lose score but the mission continues. More possible objectives than will be played in one game to encourage replays. - narrator *occasionally* chiming in to provide some context or hints about upcoming waves. - add some extraction points on the map that allow players to end the mission at the end of each set, or they can choose to continue for more rewards. Perhaps a vote by the group to decide to extract or not? Extra XP if successfully extracting rather than running out of lives mid-set.

I replayed a few Spartan Ops missions by myself in MCC (I'd have matchmade with randoms but if you can matchmake with Spartan Ops in MCC then I don't know how). I did it because I remembered the part of the story where Infinity gets boarded and I wanted to fight onboard the ship. At first I was having fun, but then the missions had me going to the same areas over and over again, and because Halo 4's enemy list is pretty limited (Grunts, Jackals, Elites, Hunters, Crawlers, Watchers [aka hellspawn], and Knights), the encounters felt to repetitive. I feel like they probably could have condensed each chapter of Spartan Ops into 1-2 missions and had it be much better quality overall. Like, the chapter aboard Infinity could have been one mission just getting aboard and securing your hangar (and the server room), and the next could have been retaking the engine room and defending it from enemy hordes until reinforcements arrived.

A risky opinion, but: I think we should have played as Majestic in a Spartan Ops that went full campaign, 8 - 10 missions, voiced in-game cutscenes, the whole deal. As colorful as the customization is, personally it feels like Crimson's role could ultimately have been fulfilled by other redshirt teams (which already DID happen throughout Spartan Ops and the Infinity certainly carries enough S4s to disgorge a few more fireteams at the enemy, maybe even give Miller an actual front position (imagine getting S4 enhancements only to pass the days as a CIC hermit that lazy-ass ration-munching f-) and it'd give the members of Majestic sorely-needed development and interaction time.

One advantage that Spartan Ops in Halo Infinite could have over 4 (and over Firefight in Halo: Reach) is a heavy contrast from the campaign. When you play a side mode against the Covenant, there aren't significant differences between base gameplay. The Covenant or Spartans are the same. Halo Infinite's Master Chief compared to your multiplayer Spartan play SIGNIFICANTLY different. This could (and should) be played with. Players should have to scavenge environments for pickups and wouldn't have the opportunity to upgrade their characters like Master Chief would, and that could make Spartan Ops feel very fresh.

the issue with spartan ops is that it's a mode where you just throw yourself at a wall of enemies until you get through that wall. on top of that there's no penalty to death. just a far spawn and lots of walking. the mode however was a good concept if only it were executed better. that potential is the only reason people keep bringing it up.

I think a thing spartan ops did well was creating little slices of the Halo sandbox. Like have a level thats all about driving a scorpion, or one where you get a buncha sniper rifle ammo and long sightlines, have one all about flying banshees around. To me that achieved something that firefight kinda didnt, as that got pretty repetitive as you were doing the same combat loop over and over without breaks. Now, of course, spartan ops didn't do this concept well, but i do think it makes it a lot of fun and makes me wish it came back with more time spent on creating unique encounters.

I would love a mode in Infinite with the more large scale PvE content featuring your MP spartan. If they want to avoid rehashing Firefight I think it would be great to see a mode utilise sections of the campaign map to create a mode in the vein of Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017)s co-op mode. Have 4 players as a spartan team as part of a larger UNSC force assaulting or defending a series of objectives. They could potentially make it a prequel set during the actual war with the banished.

mostly because gaming has changed since then, back in the day pvp was all the rage and people's favorite thing to play but since then there have been several games that have changed the landscape to make people more receptive to a pseudo linear objective based pve mode. For example the division, warframe, fallout 76, and destiny have showed the epicness of pve, people specifically want spartan ops though because of halo sandbox and how it could make the same map play completely different which is what people want. There games including destiny 2 but for this example ill be using destiny, Destiny 2 has fallen into a pattern of making a single map that people gotta grind for dozens if not hundreds of times to get everything and it gets old really quickly, if you replay spartan ops then you see how varied a single map can be and how the same basic principle can be reused in unique ways(ex hitting a button) like ragnarok/Valhalla being so different weather it's mantis's or just boots on the ground makes the repayability significantly more fun. Also the theme was great it was big in scale and you felt like a cog in the machine with some enjoyable cutscenes. in conclusion among the sea of boring forced grinding repetitive maps, halo 4s spartan ops stood out because of how varied a single map could be.

Edit: I made this comment about a third into the video before LNG said almost the same thing I did so I feel a bit vindicated. I’m gonna make a hot take: Spartan Ops were ahead of their time. As the industry has moved on to the live-service model I’ve noticed some similarities with Bungies work in Destiny seasons and Spartan Ops. While not entirely 1:1, Spartan Ops and Destiny seasons often reuse assets to make new areas in old locations or sometimes just brand new locations with reused assets. I feel like Spartan Ops is a distant ancestor to this kind of thinking, reusing previous assets in different ways with new elements shifted in and out of them. While Destiny season have a lot more budget to them than the Spartan Ops I don’t think it is unfair to say that, if released today, no one would bat an eye at the reuse of campaign levels and multiplayer maps, just like Bungie does in Destiny. 343i was ahead of the curve on this one.

Spartan Ops and Reach hold a very special place in that they are the few times that *your* Spartan is the "protagonist". RPG aspects have massive staying power, and IMO even the slightest amount of it incorporated into games can personalize the experience enough to make it beloved. I love Master Chief just as much as the next fan, but damn it's just cool to see my spartan incorporated into the game in a quasi-meaningful way, even if the mode is forgettable.

I 100% agree. I never really played Spartan Ops because my siblings didn't like playing Halo and when I did, I could see the fun gameplay in it, but just couldn't get invested. I believe that if 343 does either a Spartan Ops horde mode integrating the Banished and the Academy or a DMZ-like game, Halo Infinite would do much better. But to do either of those things, 343 just needs to expand the weapon pool a little. If they do just these two things, Halo would be in a decent state.

The issue was that Spartan Ops was well ahead of its time. It was trying to be a live service mode in a series that had never seen one and in an industry two years before the release of Destiny's launch. Let that sink in. 343i was attempting to create a live service campaign two full years before Destiny - vanilla Destiny - dropped. They had none of that hindsight, none of the competitors to look to for hints, advice or inspiration. No idea how to properly handle their workflow to meet a regular release schedule, although to be honest they still struggle with this. It absolutely had its problems and it absolutely used a lot of recycled content, but with all of that in mind Spartan Ops was good for what it was and I do feel like they get a lot more crap than they probably should've. And I feel that people are coming around to that realization, especially with what we have now. Honestly, I'd been hoping that Halo Infinite was going to be running with their own version of Spartan Ops when they'd mentioned an evolving world and story during the marketing leading up to Infinite's launch. Of course a lot of that turned out to be something of a lie, but I'm still hoping they're going to come around to the idea that setting our own Spartans' boots down on Zeta Halo or handling battlefields off the ring while Chief does his thing.
