I'm also amazed how good of condition your set came in given that they put it in one of those terrible form fitting envelopes. Those are usually murder in slipcovers or packaging such as this. I do like the info and imagery in the book, but like you, I HATE when discs are stored this way. I will be putting the discs in some regular cases and printing up some custom artwork, while hanging onto the original packaging just to use it as a book.

I've always been a fan of everything Jim Henson! I really want to buy this!! Love Fraggle Rock!! I do own Season 1 through 3 of The Muppet Show and I wasn't sure if there were any more seasons out.

Nope, just those first three seasons, unfortunately. I was looking at some other Henson stuff and it looks like a lot of it has gone out of print. The Rocky Mountain Holiday special is OOP, A Muppet Family Christmas is OOP, Henson's Place is OOP...dude, it's depressing. Write a check, Disney!

The Blu-Rays aren’t actually in HD. They’re in 1080i, which is closer in quality to 720p than 1080p(which is 60% better quality than 1080i).

Use a non abrasive cd wipe like the rounds ones you find in the older Memorex cd cleaners and then buy slim jewel cases to store them in. Make sure the cd cleaner by Memorex states on the back that they contain "NONABRASIVE WIPES" inside.

Having watched some of the episodes yesterday evening, I don’t see a drastic upgrade from the DVDs. It is sourced from video tape, so it never going to look great, but I believe the extras really help sell the package. Did the DVD set you bought include the complete animated series?

They're definitely just upscaled from video tape, but that's fine. Just like with the recent Tom Baker Doctor Who set, we can rest assured that this is as good as the show is likely to ever look, and probably much better than it looked on TV back in the '80s. I predict that there will be bad reviews because some people will be disappointed that the image isn't film. But it never could, of course, because it's not film. I have those Storytellers DVDs, but I don't remember if they're film or video tape. It seems like everyone was editing on video in the seventies and eighties. Fraggle Rock uses a lot of CSO (color separation overlay, aka blue or green screen), and I'm sure it was just much easier and cheaper to shoot and edit on video. That being said, the image is strong here, colors are as bright as can be reasonably expected, and everything feels high quality. The menus, the special features, and the entire presentation is top notch. This is not a quick cash in.

I picked this up on Tuesday at Best Buy. I completely forgot that it was coming out (I had read about it a while back, but had since forgotten). I instantly grabbed it when I saw it among the new releases! I didn't realize at the time that the complete animated series is included and picked up the DVD set of the complete animated series at Walmart for about $10. LOL I haven't opened it, so I may return it. Though I want to look into the quality of the presentation of that on the Blu-Ray set before I return it. As an example, when Beetlejuice (the movie) was released on Blu-Ray, two episodes of the TV series were included as bonus features. But they look like crap. They weren't really remastered for HD or anything, they were just thrown on the disc. I'm not sure if I'm explaining this right, but when they aren't remastered, they almost look worse on a Blu-Ray than on a DVD, because the crappy low-quality look is "locked in" at 1080p, rather than the DVD being upscaled and gaining at least some minor/moderate improvement (though still typically nothing exceptional).

Oh, yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I expect the cartoon episodes to look pretty bad. I didn't know they were getting a separate release, which sounds like maybe worth buying anyway, just for a backup and for posterity. I'm just working my way through the episodes chronologically. I haven't even popped in the animated series, and I don't know if I will until I get to that disc.

Apparently there were new DVD releases of both the complete HBO Muppet series (even though that's had past releases) and the animated series along side the Blu-Ray. I didn't notice the DVDs at Best Buy, but when I was at Walmart, I saw them and grabbed the animated series (again not realizing at the time that it was included with the Blu-Ray, but I'm thinking about keeping it for the reasons noted).

I'm about a third in, and I just gotta say, Heath -- you should have introduced Jason like you did with Dean Martin's "guests" the other day! "Ladies and gentleman, Mr. Jason Voorhees. If he gets too out of hand, I'll tell him to "cut it out." But I saw that the Fraggle Rock series came out on Tuesday, and I might have to get it. I have the first season, but I'd love to get the whole series. I'm a big Muppet guy, but Fraggle Rock wasn't something I saw as a kid, either, I just knew about it. Thank you, as always, for another entertaining unboxing, haha.

Very good memories of the fraggles it was on CBC and I watched it more than the muppet show. The Gorgs scared the hell out of me, I hid under my blanket in any of their scenes where you thought they were going to catch a Gobo and the gang.

I watched a couple of episodes yesterday after I made this video and was so impressed by the level of puppeteering and puppet design of the Doozers and the Gorgs. Even the Trash Heap is a puppeteering marvel. I can completely understand being afraid of the Gorgs, especially since they seem so huge.

Man I loved the Doozers too. I really liked Lego and their constructions were just the best. I don't remember the cartoon though. It's good to know too that Amazon prime members do not get things shipped right away. I'm not a prime member and figured the reason why I never receive packages on their release date was because of that.

Nope, Amazon just sucks these days. They charge too much for a service that has become very unreliable. The only reason I still have it is because I like to watch some of their streaming content. I know, me streaming, right?

Oh the irony. Yes you are the poster boy for streaming that wall behind you speaks volumes. I watch this whole channel to just hear you rip on DVDs being trash. Amazon streaming here is pretty weak from what I've heard (it's different rights for tv shows up north) hence why the membership did not increase. Though we are getting a warehouse built in the Eastern part of town so that could be a game changer.

@@justmason7672 i'm also from canada. i had Amazon Prime for a year, mostly for shippinhlg stuff. The streaming is fine, but only when you need to kill time. They don't have the catalogue the US have. But the price is way lower than in the US. As for shipping, they screwed me once on a preorder and i killed it immediately

As a guy with a channel who tries to show things in a timely manner, getting a pre-ordered item days after the release date just doesn’t work. It’s happening more and more, and I’ve lost a lot of faith in Amazon. I don’t know what the issue is, but it’s gotten worse. Two day shipping has also become 3 or 4 day shipping.

Thanks for the video, I was actually really courious how it looked inside. But it's such a shame how they put the discs inside. Everytime you moved the scrapbook I was afraid the discs would flew out. At least they could put some fold in each disc pocket or something on this side of the scrapbook.

The discs are really tightly secured in those slots, so much that they're kind of hard to get out. I wonder if these kinds of packages really save the studios that much money. I'm torn, though, because I do think the book packaging looks fantastic.

I need to get down to Fraggle Rock and re watch this show. Loved it as a kid. Don't think i've seen any of the Animated series though. Are they ever going to release the full series of Muppet Babies? Or is it still stuck in copyright issues?

Cereal At Midnight Hopefully The Muppets Show and Muppet Babies will get a release sooner rather than later. Like they did with the 1966 Batman series. And that had a lot of copyright problems getting a release even on VHS If I'm remember right.

I saw the DVD set in a store yesterday and I believe it’s stacked discs on a spindle. No booklet packaging, from what I could tell. Obviously, I only bought the Blu-ray, so I can’t say for sure. But that is how Sony and several other companies package big DVD sets now. Just stack the discs one on top of the other like a pack of CD-Rs.

I would watch this show with my parents and my sister when it aired on HBO back in the day. Then it later on aired on The TNT Channel, Disney Channel, Odyssey Channel and then back on to HBO but on HBO Family in Full HD quality. I love the Fraggles and will till the day I leave this world. Really did enjoy your unboxing but I don't know if I'll buy the blu-ray just cause I already own the seasons on DVD. Just depends on how I feel about wanting to get it. If some one where to buy it as a gift for me. I would take it just cause it would be rude not to. Peace Out dude!

In all honesty, there not a huge upgrade in video quality over the DVD, so I understand. I’m not even sure how many of the special features are newly produced for this set and how many of them are from the DVDs. The animated series is awesome to have, but it’s being sold on its own for 10 dollars. I think the price is low enough for an impulse buy for a guy like me (I got it for 48 dollars and free shipping), but I didn’t have any of the DVDs, so it was an easier decision. I'm also a huge Henson fan as well. I still remember when they released the first three seasons and then they came out with the complete DVD set with the Red Fraggle plush and then finally came out with the four season. Even though they broke up season 4 into another season to make it 5 seasons. My all time favorite show is Sesame Street but Fraggle Rock comes 2nd in my top 5 but I still enjoy the show as much as Sesame Street.

@@CerealAtMidnight Yep I have all 3. The 3rd one is ok but they leave out the theme song and Episode number. It's still a good buy but not all that great. The 2nd one is pretty much like the first one. Still has the theme and episode numbers.

I’m not a big deal, Jason just actually has a very low public appearance fee. I think times are tough for the guy. I mean, every time he thinks he’s getting a new movie, something seems to happen and it gets scrapped. He’s been doing the occasional grocery store openings, shopping mall meet and greets, and even private birthday parties to make ends meet. If I’m being honest, I’m a little worried about him.

No, don't do this to me, i can't buy this right now I hate these type of packaging because of the way the disc is stored, but i also very much like them because of how they look. I try to not pre-order from amazon as much as i can, but sometimes it's the only place to go for a canadian like me. Best Buy is often the place i'll preorder the stuff. I wonder why this isn't available on Best Buy Canada. That's weird, especially considering they filmed in Toronto and CBC was one of the co-producers. This set isn't going anywhere. It's not likely to go out of print for a while. One of the reasons I had to get it (aside from it being awesome) is that I missed the DVD set years ago and that did eventually go out of print. But this does seem like the definitive Fraggle Rock package. Everything in one box. And I agree completely about the packaging: it LOOKS stunning, but getting the discs out is a major pain. Or a Major Payne.

I should specify that i wanted to get the box set now because often these type of packaging are limited and a second print is made with a normal blue case. And i want the special packaging damn it. I was too slow for the Star Wars set, but luckily my awesome uncle traded my the original packaging for the regular one that i had I don't think i'll be that lucky twice

It's not splitting. It's actually the way the book is designed so there's no stress on the spine or the pages. As much as I don't like those little sleeves, I have many packages that are similar (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter Hogwarts Collection, Lost in Space), and I've never once had any problems with scratched discs. Come to think of it, I've never had a scratched Blu-ray period. It's just inconvenient.
