Completely in love with Cities Skyline. So realistic and easy to play. Even their expansion packs won’t cost you an arm or a leg. Time for them to make their version of the Sims since EA doesn’t listen to the players/customers.

Alot of people would disagree with you, Sim City 5 was a complete failure at launch and had a million bugs. I had fun with it, until CS and I never looked back.

yep absolutely agree. I'm actually a little afraid of playing because of the hours it just sucks away haha the best mod I've come across so far has to be the realistic population mod where low density housing is more realistic so you don't have Bangladesh levels of density in one house among other things. does make pop lower but then you don't have 8 families in one house and I think my cims appreciate that

Sim City 4 is the ultimate. Nearly 15 years on and it's still the best city simulator I've ever played.

It's up to personal preference, but the fact that the SC4 modding community is still hugely active speaks volumes. As someone who has played both extensively, they are just too different to say which is better, but nothing can replace SC4. It doesn't look like anything on the horizon will either.

agreed. cities skylines is cool and fun but there's something about simcity 4 that just makes it the best. from busting the grid. Something about the scale of things and the fact the game is far more detailed skylines. Stack the 2 side by side vanilla mode and SC4 is far more detailed in its default state. Honestly if it wasn't for the modding community skylines would be very....pastel. As we all know the textures and the vehicles were immediately hammered.

just like Madden is trash, #EA makes a lot of bad games. seems cool at first, then you realize almost nothing works like it should and you have to out AI the AI. the game becomes mastering the bugs and glitches instead achieving victory through more honorable ways

If Maxis hadn't been under the influence of the evil empire that is EA Games, then they could have put out a true sequel to Sim City 4 for today's generation that lived up to everything that made their franchise great. I don't blame Maxis per se, but EA for destroying the Maxis name and Sim City brand. Cities: Skylines' release was perfect timing. It filled the void of a good current-generation city-building game that so many of us had been yearning for, especially after being punched in the face with the most recent Sim City.

Should have mentioned that SimCity 4 also has a very large online B.A.T. community making custom content to add into the game (realistic textures, mods, buildings , skyscrapers, vehicles and so forth). The communities make some of the best plug ins that keep the game alive and always fresh, even after so many years later. Still my tops favorite to this day because I always have new content and can even make my own with the B.A.T. tool.

I've played Cities Skylines and banished and really enjoyed them. I would say banished is more of a survival game but it does take a lot of city planning in order to optimize the production.

A town builder that's also a great survival game is Clockwork Empires! Suppose it is a bureaucracy sim as well as a town builder. The game starts you off with a group of settlers putting together a settlement. You delegate tasks and put people in charge of workers in different work places based off their stats. There are 3 classes of people, Workers, Overseer, Aristocrats. Workers work and you wont spend much time looking into these individuality unless you need to separate people who dont get along. They might actually kill each other so yea. Overseers are the most important as they manage your resources, buildings and workers. Aristocrats are costly and wasteful but help with diplomatic relations with neighbors. The game keeps things fresh by putting the game into some kind of Lovecraft novel with fishpeople, monsters, and occult magic plaguing your community as well as war and many other very odd situations. Not really a city builder since you spend more time managing your peoples moods and trying to survive in the wilderness more than managing money. Trading of goods for settlement expansion is more important than taxation. There are no roads and are able to place buildings anywhere you see fit if the ground is flat. If not you can flatten it. Buildings are supposed to be placed with wooden walls to keep the people safe from outside threats.. The people sort of just wonder where they please and usually don't get in much trouble. The sim part comes from the NPC's having free will. If the NPC doesnt want to do something due to their mood they won't, for example: the settlement has a lack of preferred food or a food variety, maybe a few of them saw their friends get stabbed to death by a fish person and have gone mad with depression. A number of reason affects their mood and productivity adding a lot of challenge in a unique way.

Cities Skylines was a big diappointment for me. Looks amazing, lots to adjust and tweak to really make it look like an actual city with loaaaads of space. HOWEVER it's way too easy. After about an hour u can have infinite cash flowing in already. I can't believe I spent like 100 euros on the game with expansions and mods that looked interesting. The reviews were so good that i had no doubts it would be worth it and I was so excited lol. While playing, nothing was exciting tho and I got bored after 8 hours and never touched the game again after that. I spent hundreds and hundreds of hours in several simcity games and I will probably start it up again after seeing this.

Simcity 4 is so much better than CS as simulation... City builders players are generally much interested in city design but I am 90% a management player and SC4 engine a mega update/revolution of 2k/3k. Just read the official guide, it is amazing. It has also a so much better art (music, humor, ...). Banished is also really interesting, it is more about managing your population cycles and other cycles to reach synchronicity. I look forward Citystate

cities skylines is definitely a good game. but i find there is way to much micro management in the game. if your in to that kinda thing, that's great. but not everyone wants to manage their city to that degree.

demonpride1975 Really isn't micromanaging if you play it right, but if you expand population quicker then you add the support infrastructure you'll quickly become overwhelmed by change events. Lack of sewers causing illness causing hospitals to fill causing deaths, causing graveyards to be overwhelmed which causes more disease which then ends up in a dangerous cycle of your city dying for example lol the main thing is to expand slow and get the roads right, use cheapest options upkeep cost that keep traffic flowing.

TehFocus Always the problem​ here is the sequel usually sucks because new features limit the player or they remove modding support or they try to add too much its not runnable for most people. Or the worst of them all, they barely change the game, just slight improvements and changes, but we all angry for spending our cash on it and the old mods arent compatible. lol Seen all these with other games!

Didn't Settlers 7 also require a constant internet connection? When it released, I was going to buy it, but my connection wasn't that great, and thought it was ludicrious that I'd need a constant internet connection for a Single player game. I have since changed providers, but there was a reason I didn't get it, otherwise I would have.
