The controversy around Godus isn't that Peter relied on crowdfunding. It's that he promised a lot of stuff and didn't deliver. The game is STILL barely past where it was when it originally got posted as Early Access on Steam, and that was over three years ago now.

Black & White was criticized for being buggy and allowing players to essentially dead-end themselves with the way certain mechanics worked. Powermonger for the Genesis was a joke and a half of what the game was supposed to be. Fable promised the world but delivered... meh. Themepark was a cheap, watered down version of what Roller coaster Tycoon went on to become 2 years later. Then there are others that just failed to do anything upon release and faded into oblivion. None of those games were actually "bad" really. It's just that releasing a game like Godus after having all of those mediocre, semi-failures that promised the world but delivered half a game, under his belt led to people rebelling finally.

Black and White 2 is a much better example that should have been used over the first installment.

i remember a a story about Black and White: your helper creature had a real learning AI, it would actually adapt to your actions and develop unique behaviors... BUT, during a late level, the enemy would REVERSE your helper's personality, which would in turn, force you to use completely different tactics for the rest of the level-putting it simply, if you had been playing as a nice, benevolent god, you would be forced to use evil, bullying tactics... and to top it off, there was a glitch that would sometimes prevent your helper from returning to "normal" at the end of the level, effectively ruining ALL the effort you put into teaching it to do what you wanted it to do!

I dont know what it was about Black & White, Spore and From Dust, but these god games gave me an incredible feeling of calm- and happiness. I could just do nothing and breathe the atmosphere in and still feel like nothing has been lost (time etc.). Somehow those games really made me feel like a god. Black and White 2 and GTA V are my 2 all-time favorite video games, GTA V is not a GOD game but I use it as an example of how much I love Black and White 2, tried playing Black and White after I played 2 but couldn't get past the sub-par graphics, for me there has to be a nice balance of gameplay and graphics, you control a Giant Creature to help your civilization grow quicker by helping your armies in war against other invading armies, you set up a structure that houses food, ore, and wood, you grow you town by adding enough farm land and farmers to harvest food, you also set an adequate amount of forresters to harvest wood, miners to harvest ore, and they all bring their harvest to the structure that houses food, ore, and wood, you then grab available blueprints of houses and set them where you want to build them, you then add enough builders to help construct those houses, once you have a few houses then you start to convert some of your workers to breeders, it's very cool to watch they walk up to each other hug and kiss and then the female begins to walk away pregnant and waddleling, after a few minutes they drop to the floor and a child emerges at her feet like a 6-year-old child, not a baby, after a while you'll see a female walking with a whole string of kids behind her, that's when you need to have enough houses for your population growth, it's such a perfectly balanced game of knowing how to balance your resources that you're constantly thinking, very strategical, Black and White 2 also had an expansion called Black and White 2 Battle of the Gods

you told shit about "black & white". the creatures appearance doesn't change by interactions with the player, it changes by it's own interactions with the world. u can just stroke it for good things or beat it for bad things. a tiger for example does need flesh and will always try to get some, so u have to show him what to eat - humans, or cows/pigs/fishes. u can also teach it the spells you can cast and it will always use what it is able to, to impress new villages. if u have a good cow for example, but teach him/her the lightning- or fireball spell, it will use those spells against villagers even if u bind it with the rope of harmony to an alrdy controlled village (so the cow would turn evil by time).
