I have been working my way through the samples and this one is my absolute favorite -- the smokiness of the guaiac wood and the vanilla is a freaking unbelievable combination -- what a beautiful scent! -- total wrist crack for me. Other faves: Every Storm a Serenade, Cape Heartache, Yesterdays Haze, I also love Saint Julep but it doesn't perform very well unfortunately.

Great video. I've recently got excited about this house. Josh Meyer is an INCREDIBLE VISIONARY, FROM THE SCENT TO THE AUTHOR TO THE STORY... SO MULTIFACETED! I just got Slow Explosions! Imaginary authors is great. Ordered the sample set a while ago and got two extra. Not as lucky as you though. I like slow explosions best and every storm a serenade is the runner up followed by st julep. Keep up the good work mate.

This company is different and unique. Some of their fragrances are too artistic for me but they are not off putting, just something I cannot wear on the daily.

Yes! Very unique! Fragrances like City On Fire and Bulls Blood are definitely suited to certain occasions when you're perhaps looking to make a statement. I found this one, Every Storm a Serenade and Cape Heartache lighter and more versatile. I can't wait to see what inventive concoctions they might come up with in the future!

Just got a 3ml sample & initially it literally smells like the hills behind my house that catch on fire every summer. The drydown then reminds me of the Pirates of Carribean ride at Disneyland.

Great review Chris! In your opinion would you say this is a redundant purchase if I already have Tobacco Vanille, Spicebomb Extreme and By the fireplace? Love the concept of the bottles and boxes otherwise

Thank you Ashish, that's very kind of you. I feel it's quite different to Spicebomb Extreme and Tobacco Vanille. It's probably more similar to By The Fireplace but, again, not exactly the same notes as BTF has the chestnut note working with the vanilla. It just depends how many takes on vanilla you are happy to have in your collection!

Why do you say that this contains a cognac "note"? It's not listed among the official notes, which you can even see on the back of the bottle in the video. I first thought that maybe you misread "guaiac", but you put both "cognac" and "guaiac" up on the screen... What gives?

Chris this one of my favorite of the line followed closely by City On Fire : But my absolute top drawer best of the bunch pick would be L’Orchidée Terrible (Shamlessly I am adding my based on real events reviews here: sentsmemory.wordpress.com/2014/01/01/the-imaginary-lunch-lorchidee-terrible-by-imaginary-authors/ ) Josh Meyer is a wonderful, inventive, smart and funny perfumer. I have had the pleasure of his company on several occasions at Tiger Lilly Perfumery in San Francisco and at the San Francisco Artisan Perfume Salon. He is one of the top West Coast perfumers and I am thrilled with his success. I did link your review to him so I am sure it will be appreciated by the Master.
