If I were treated like this, I would lose all interest in buying anything from them, at least that specific boutique, and be sure to share my experience. No one should be looked down for whatever reason. Small minds are always exposed when they perceive themselves in a power position no matter how small. Props to Frédéric Malle's choice of staff. The truth is that these experiences shape your associations to the brand

Agree 100%. To be fair the hilarious comments were not from Cartier staff - but the cold and guarded demeanor was. I can imagine there could be reasons why they are not open to casual visitors , maybe expensive watches were stolen by tourists who knows. But this old school picture of an empty shiny boutique with 10 attendants and zero visitors is so moldy

You don't need appointments to smell perfumes or look at their jewelry when the store is empty. She was full of it!

I wouldn't take the Cartier experience personally, it's standard procedure at their stores to take appointments because most people are there to drop thousands of dollars on jewelery or watches and they want that personal one on one service with an associate. For that reason I don't like going to Cartier to smell their fragrances and I'm happy that Bloomingdales here has a great selection including the Les Heures. I don't think I'd ever mention to a sales associate that I have a perfume channel, they are there to make sales not provide free samples for review content. For that I suppose the proper channels would be the brands PR and marketing department. Not that it isn't annoying when this happens, but I understand where they are coming from.

I really struggle as a small town, working class perfume nut to even go in a fancy department store. I went recently with my dear friend and in the two stores we went to (Selfridges and Harvey Nichols), there were only 2 really friendly staff at Fragrance du Bois and Aveda haircare. My friend had better luck at Prada and Armani for foundation matching and samples. Some staff were positively terrifying. Didn't even dare to go to Dior to small Dior counter, there were way too many staff. My friend was way better at dealing with the staff than I was, especially when they wanted to serve us rather than letting us sniff through. I've never been in a standalone designer brand boutique 😂

Luckily I didn't experience the ordeal myself the ONE time I went into a Cartier boutique (well dressed I might add 😉), but I can confirm that it felt more like a police state than a store. 🤭 Even more so than the LV and Hermes boutiques. Wouldn't put it passed them to hire martial artists as escorts, I.....mean.......SA's. Of course, SA's. 😆 Great discourse on corporate and political avoidance behaviour Maria. We're currently seeing the same thing happening with the 'UAP' issue. More committees, while our century-old intergalactic commerce guild looks on and chuckles. 😂Likely banking on a programmed aversion to uncomfortable affairs that could potentially disrupt or complicate an already dismal life. 🌎 Makes sense to me! 🤦‍♂

Martial artist SAs-now that's a visual. 😂 It's wild how these high-end boutiques sometimes feel more like fortresses than stores. As for the corporate and political maneuvering, it's like watching "house of cards" on repeat!

@@MariaMeliora Too true. I sometimes feel a great deal of compassion for those that are obligated to make public excuses and evasions for corporations. Takes a resilient mind not to be phased by the barrage of questions and criticisms coming from critics and the well informed. Although, with AI now increasingly producing written works for the average employee, I wouldn't be surprised if the new public face of most companies isn't going to be an electronically generated one. Ps, your concern is very important to us and we are doing everything we can to meet the needs of our valued customers in an ethically responsible and sustainable way. We support diversity, equity and inclusion in everything we do, and are making significant strides to ensure that we serve you better on the way to a healthy and prosperous future. 🤣 Suddenly I feel like robots should be hiring ME.

Just my two cents, if a person, no matter what the business I worked for is, came up to me and announced themselves as an influencer: It would make me roll my eyes and be like...ok...AND?? It gives the impression that you are expecting special treatment. This COULD work, but it could also turn a lot of people off. Maybe squeeze that in as you browse, shop, make small talk etc and not as the way to enter a business? Might get you better results. Salespeople are there to SELL, they will most likely not care or be thrilled by someone wanting free samples with no intention to buy. I get that reviews are helpful in the long run, but I don't think Cartier/other huge companies/houses/designers etc. are desperate for reviews.

Lol I said no such thing 😆 I explained that I review perfumes - if that is eye rolling and snideful remarks worthy explanation, we got a bigger problem that what a store assistant is tgere to do. Btw I disagree that they are there just to ring a cash register - that is too down the funnel to have 10 people around one brand corner. This is not a gas station afterall

@@MariaMeliora 4:20 - 4:45 Going by how you said you introduced yourself. Letting them know that you are a perfume reviewer gives the impression that you're there to get something from them. Obviously, that is the impression you gave, because that is exactly the feedback you got from the people there.
