Fram Ultra synthetic oil filters cut open

Some more Fram filters to look at, I always have fun seeing how people abuse there filters. And at the same time I feel happy when I see a filter do a good job. Some of these filters especially 1 worked overtime to keep the engine clean.

When I was a youngster, I used to use Fram oil filters, but then the interweb came about and I reconsidered the error of my ways.

While the XG seal area 'could be' a factor, the main thing is First Brands cheapened the media. The OG XG used two ply full synthetic wire backed media. The current uses a thin synthetic layer, backed by a thin blended media layer. No bueno.

Synthetic oils are so close in price to conventional no reason to not use it. Not that long ago it was like double the price. When i used conventional back years ago i changed my oil and filter every 3k never a problem using the orange can.

The oil prices are so close now, 3k for oil change was right move. And orange can can handle low mileage oil changes.

Conventionl oil is fine , Just not at 7000k 😳
