What the heck is frame data and how do I use it? In this detailed guide, I go over how to use the concept of frame data to pick apart and analyze different interactions, and form in-game plans based on the data. Hopefully I explain it well :)

I just wanted to say a frame 6 grab can grab moves that are -9 or worse not -10 or worse. This because spotdodges are never frame 1.

Nice vid. I would have liked to see a brief mention about spacing though. Just to help people understand that the raw data isn't the only thing to consider when deciding what you can and cannot punish with different oos options. Minor detail though and something most people will figure out very quick.

Very nice video! The only thing I would think to add is that the safety on shield is a best case scenario. Which assumes that the aerial is hit one frame before hitting the ground, not staled at all, and full hopped. I guess a small little list at the end of the things to remember would make it easier to come back to quickly.

Great video! I'd also really like to watch a similar video about frames when landing. How landing lag works with airdodging/ canceled aerial/ etc. And how to best use that to punish people when they land

Thanks for this information. I have had a very rough understanding of how frame data worked but this really clarified everything. I am a Roy main and I generally am able to stay in elite smash and when I play in person with others I am in the top 3 players. I think I could be a lot better if I had a better handle on Roy’s frame data as well as understanding my most common match ups. I would be interested in going through a couple of coaching lessons, as I would be very interested in getting a professional perspective and guiding on where I can improve and how

something a little more niche, item toss can actually be done out of sheild and that is pretty important to know for some characters and for some matchups, but it won't kill you if you don't know.

when you were demonstrating the red "minus on shield" aspect of frame data, why do you start counting it frame by frame once the enemy who was shielding is able to move? Wouldn't "minus on shield" be just when the hitbox strikes the shield?

11:43: And thats why Smash can be hard to learn and especially to master cuz of something I like to call "Inconsistent Consistentcy" the 2 best examples being the Grab frame data increasing after getting hit on Shield and your getup attack changing when your either facing your stomach or your back💀

Definitely a helpful guide to something that a lot of high-level players talk about that is kinda obscure to try and figure out if you're on your own. There's a lot to know about this game and a lot of times it feels like people assume you should already know it all, but this vid will hopefully help new players to understand what's going on (:

Another thing I'd like to add for us Ike mains is to watch out for out of shields options that are also ARMORED, just like Aether. Right now, only K. Rool's nair comes to mind, but watch out for anything of the sort, as sometimes reading frame data only isn't everything.

This was really useful! I didn't know that shielding a hit gave you 4 extra set frames for only grab, huh. But wasn't there something about multijabs on shield? I forget what it was but I recall people talking about frame safety decreasing once you get a certain number of hits...

This is a really great and simple to understand guide for how these weird numbers work. Thank you! So, here's a question, though. You said, the shield grab would be on frame 11 (when your grab is frame 7), when the shield is hit. Is this true for any move you got hit by? When I look at the frame data, I see that every move got a section for "shield stun". For Fox Nair there are 4 frames shield stun. 7 + 4 is 11, sure. But does this mean, if Fox hits my shield with Bair for example which has 9 frames shield stun, will my shield grab then start at frame 16 instead of 11?
@SoloJones
@SoloJones 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, for grab it always adds 4 frames (as far as I’m aware)
