Glen Velez is a Master. Outstanding! Thanks for posting these podcasts, David. They are very helpful and always inspiring. Well produced. Keep up the great work. By the way.....your framedrum DVD is very good. In combination with your podcasts it's a great way to learn this beautiful instrument. All the best for you Martin

Love these videos, but Valez Calling that drum a bodhran is like be calling a tympani a snare drum. Two very different contexts.

That is a bodhran. It may be one of his signature drums

Cooperman sells it as a modified version of the Irish design. Most bodhran players wouldn't call it a bodhran for a few reasons: skin is too thin. The playing style is not Irish in method, and the bearing edge of the tuning ring is not designed the same. It's a touchy subject b/c you could never use that drum in Irish trad music. you would be told to stop. Sean McCann of Great Big Sea uses and Cooperman Bodhran as well but it is designed in a much more trad method. Lastly Cooperman also show Valez's bodhran, a model called the Irish and the Celtic bodhran. All different.
