To be hones I like this kind of reviews more. Like people who play the game come and talk about it rather than classic mainstream media reviews. None of the reviews around made me excided about SMT5 but after listening Ben here, I am definitely buying it. Also I find this more informative.

One of my favorite examples of feeling "lost" was in Silent Hill 2. NOT the apartment-level kind of lost, but rather later on when James is repeatedly jumping into dark holes starting with the Historical Society , to a stairway and a prison and a labyrinth and meat locker. I had no idea where this was going narratively or geographically and the horror element intensified that feeling of madness. The massive empty, dark Gallows room in the prison was an area I won't forget.

Loved everything Ben had to said about SMTV. So excited for the game, been waiting for it for a few years. I can't wait for a challenging experience, intense battles, a banger soundtrack, mysterious story and an eerie setting. Judging by Ben's experience and some other reviews, exploration seems to be really really cool and well thought.

Been playing 20 hours of smt5 over this weekend. It's a really good time. I love the grinding loop of building a team of demons, in preparation for a boss. Like the maps are big enough and there is enough stuff to do in them, either finding the mimans and doing the side quests that the grinding and getting strong enough for the story bosses feels pretty effortless. Maybe ppl who aren't as completionist might not like it as much as the difficulty curve is gonna be crazy if you only do the streamlined bare minimum to get through the story.

It mind sounds needlessly mean but in all honesty I'd want the Pokemon license to be given to different studios. Like I have no concrete studio I'd give it to but I am sure there are great studios who would do a killer story driven pokemon rpg. And others would nail the open world nature of Pokemon. Heck give the genshin impact guys Pokemon and just somebody slap their hands whenever they want to add micro transactions. They'd definitely make an open world Pokemon game that is great to look at and is beautifully animated.

Playing FF14 ARR while listening to Ben gush about Shadowbringers. I have a long way to go, but I am still taking everyone's word for it that it gets incredible as it goes on. Knowing how ARR was basically a fix-up job, I prepared for the worst and stomached the pre-credits hours while learning my first MMO and all its oddities. I am currently on the post-credits stuff before Heavensward, and honestly having more fun since I actually know how much of the game works now & the world seems more opened up. I managed to finish the Noctis limited quest, buy the Regalia thru Gold Saucer grinding, finish my BLM job questline, complete all of the Manderville episodes, and am almost done with the Ixali Beast Questline. It's been an interesting experience and I definitely can tell how games like this eat up everyone's time. But as an FF veteran, I know the highest highs of these RPGs are very worth it, so I'll keep taking it easy and acclimate myself to Eorzea as I advance thru the Free Trial with no monetary pressure yet. Still blows my mind how generous this Trial is!
@trignite
@trignite 2 жыл бұрын
I just started Shadow Bringers. Got to say Heavensward is really great, if your enjoying the post ARR patches which was the lowest point of the game for me then you're really in for a treat. One thing I will HIGHLY recommend. Is to do the Extreme Primal trials in ARR, and ESPECIALLY Coils of Bahamut. Coils is hard content, so you should unsync it and make a partyfider group to unsync the story. The story revelations are huge, and it makes Heavensward better if you do it first. The extreme trials on the other hand are a good level of being moderately difficult while introducing you to a lot of mechanics.
@kingofthesharks
@kingofthesharks 2 жыл бұрын
@@trignite Well I just beat Leviathan after meeting Yugiri, so no news on Bahamut yet. Will keep that in mind tho, thx! I generally do trials/dungeons as soon as I come upon them. I keep an eye out for those +Content icons on NPCs. I've finished 30+ dungeons and 16 trials so far. Just beat King Moggle Mog on extreme! For me, post-ARR patches are far better than the first dozen hours of ARR running back and forth with no flight or connections haha but I can see how any point in ARR can be a drag for players

I very much respect Brandon's opinion on the matter but I can't help but feel like saying Unpacking is 8-10 hours could be a little discouraging to some. Start to finish it's around a 3 to 4 hour game. Everything else is true, and it's certainly very replayable if you enjoy the gameplay, but as someone who was there to dip in and experience the story, Unpacking is easily within the "Games to Play in One Night" category, and you won't miss on all that much by not spending more time than that with it.

I think that would require enough power for techniques like raytracing to run without making such a significant difference in performance, but now that developers have opened that pandora's box, I think it's probably here to stay. What's crazy to me is that I still have to make that choice even when playing in 1080p. You'd think that if I'm not playing in 4K, there actually would be enough power available to get the best of both worlds. -Bloodworth

I've been getting back into XIV again too, having not played the game since 2013, and I just got to Heavensward the other day after grinding out like 80 main quests post-ARR. Honestly the difference in story quality that happens around the end of ARR is staggering. It's definitely been a gradual process of becoming more and more invested, because the story and especially voice acting in ARR is subpar at best, and downright atrocious at worst. So having seen the leap it has already made, it makes me very excited hearing Ben say that it's only uphill from here.

As someone who felt burned out on Marvel and Star Wars for years now, I can relate to that second email. I know talented creators will shine with these IPs as well. It's just that they're loosely adapting already existing universes instead of creating something new from scratch that could enrich video game culture with new big and/or innovative franchises. There's also the fear that fan favorite "video game" franchises like e.g. Deus Ex will be put on the hold for these big Hollywood movie follow ups. In terms of Marvel being a "safe bet" - Idk, slapping a popular IP on a mediocre GAAS didn't seem to work for Avengers at least.

Like FromSoft RPGs too, the cool thing SMT does seems to be matching the difficulty with the mood of the story. I do indeed like quality over quantity in approach to JRPG battles, especially challenging methodical battles. But how does SMTV handle RNG? Does it ever feel like when you die, it was bad luck that you could barely prevent? Or do the stakes of the fights favor visible paths to victory with the right strategy? Having dead protagonist = Game Over in Persona almost always put me in a pissy, undeserving mood for some reason (especially in P3). But I know this is a different subseries so just wondering how the game dishes out this punishment most often...

Yeah, I think it sounded harsher than what was intended, but it's not too far off. Except for the memes, the game is pretty safe and draws inspiration from more impacting game like RE4. It's good enough where you really enjoy your time with it, but doesn't do anything too crazy that really sticks out. I wonder what would've helped on that side. My mind jumps immediately on a better protagonist, but there's probably more that could be done.

@@Ayoul you know how huber is obsessed with TEW 1 and 2? Thats me with RE 7 and 8. I can't stop thinking about them. This duology really brought the die-hard fan out of me again that was gone for a decade... i love how each place in village feels different which was lacking in 7 a bit. I like action REs like 3 and 4 but also the horror atmosphere in 1, 2 and 7... and village is a good mash up of both, painted in my personal favorite setting so far. Gothic, folklore horror is so interesting to me and i want more of it. If anything sticks out to me, it is the first time i went through house beneviento... i will never forget that experience and when 'it' crawled out of the corner. Of course it wears off overtime, same as P.T in my opinion. These levels are meant for the first time reaction. The castle is pure RE classic and the village as a hub world i adore too since the lycans are my favorite enemies, next to RE 1 2 and 3 remake zombies. I also do believe it has one of the stronger 3rd acts and finales than most of REs. All in all this game really speaks to me making it my favorite new Game since God of War (2018) and my favorite RE since RE4. But thank you for commenting in a civil way. I got a lot of shit over the years enjoying RE 7 and now 8 and supporting the direction capcom is taking.

I don't know if Ben will read this, but definitely take the time to do the Role Quests and Void Quests in FFXIV. If you don't have the necessary jobs for it then don't stress over it since EW is so close, but it's legitimately my favorite storyline in the game. Much like you I wasn't blown away by Shadowbringers as well and thought Heavensward was the best expansion, but the Role and Void Quests is what pushed ShB to the top. I would say Xbox Game Studios could make a better Resistance game Playstation make a better, I dare say, Gears Of War game

Wow, I disagree. Gears 5 is superb, top notch storytelling and characters. The end was bs, but everything up to that point worked very well. The Coalition has earned every right to continue to make Gears of War. I feel like you could take Resistance, Killzone, and Wolfenstein and give them to any of Insomniac, Gorilla, or Machine Games and you'll get the same product out on the other side. Which isn't a bad thing, they're all just so similar to each other.

Cant wait for Blood's 6/10 Forza Horizon 5 Review to break the internet. Should have had someone else review this game cause everything Blood is saying sounds like he's just burnt out on the Forza Horizon formula and cant seem to find it fresh enough to appreciate.

LOL, it's not getting a 6/10. Maybe I spent too much time on my criticisms here, but I was just kind of providing my perspective on how I think some of these things could be improved, and we did talk a lot about it's many strengths as well. -Bloodworth

Hello! I'm back. I haven't made a comment in months. At 10:56 Forza Horizon "Showcase" events are brought up and I notice that Blood doesn't really like them. For me they are the best thing to do in a Horizon game. For me they are not about racing the train or the hot air balloon, they're about setting a competitive time on the leaderboards. The showcase events in past FH games have been the only place to set a fair competitive time since the vehicles in Showcase are each one a locked standard --- outside of assists like automatic transmission, traction control, stability control, and so on which do introduce unknown variables. (Your time may be bested by somebody with assists "on" that you had "off" and you have no way of telling.) I don't know if FH5 does this, but I'd appreciate Showcase challenges in Rivals mode forcing key assists off so we know that all racers competing used manual transmission etc in addition to the same car and tuning. Now, I love the Forza Horizon series, but it's failed to evolve in the ways I've wanted it to: 1.) The AI still behaves like the same Forza AI we've had for over a decade. I don't like competing against it, it's pointless and I know all of its patterns and how a race is going to turn out on a given difficulty over a distance. The AI is essentially pretending to race, I think designers just set time parameters for the AI with each race and difficulty and it either speeds up or slows down to match that. Unless I'm playing FH1 or 2 offline (which are still my favorite ones) then I'm playing Forza to set lap times, not to win against the AI. Hopefully a fully next gen Forza will finally give us actual competitive AI and that each of the AI cars will obey the same physics as the player vehicle. In short: rubber-banding in Forza really sucks and needs to go away. 2.) I don't know why offroad vehicles in FH behave like they're on ice, they should have the best stability and traction, not the worst. 3.) There aren't races that are start and finish only à la Burnout Paradise or Smugglers Run --- has FH5 changed this? It's a no brainer in an open world racer and is sorely missing in Horizon. 4.) I hate, hate, hate the free-to-play style progression. I hate the bars, the overlays, the interruptions, and the chirpy in-your-ear excited hipster voices. It went from bad to worse as the series grew. I remember how much wheel spins pissed me off in FH2 but that was nothing compared to what it is now. I see in FH5 the exp rundowns are delivered in a descending series of bars each looking to be 90% full and I want to puke. Phil Spencer might as well come out and say "Surely you can do better than this!" because that's the subliminal message being communicated with the exp system. Off topic: How cool would an open world San Francisco Rush 2049 be? Moving on. I listened to the Sizzle first and I want to say that Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts is a superb game and I wish it had spawned a whole series. It was painful to hear Jones mention how he loves Pilot Wings and I'm tearing my hair out over here because he's describing Nuts and Bolts! That game deserves a lot more love and a lot less hate. And, finally, Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 introduced jet skis to the series way back in 2006.

13:55 This. When FH5 was first revealed I rolled my eyes a little because of all of this. Remember when they were touting wind physics for Gears of War 4? FH really needs robust physics simulation, wind should be taken into account and terrain deformation beyond the visual aspect of those things. The whole industry has moved away from the sort of verisimilitude which was promised in games like Metal Gear Solid 2 and Shenmue and Half Life 2 and chose instead only static, back of the box fidelity. Of course, games like Spintires and Teardown exist, but I actually believed back in 2001 that in the future of games would never be a bottle that couldn't be broken or a bag of flower that wouldn't spill, I believed that all snow and sand would deform, that major games would all continue to be about pushing new levels of verisimilitude in interactivity as much as in "photorealism". I was wrong.

Could not disagree more. I spent an braising amount of money and time to get "caught up" with XIV lore, and I regret it. I remember nothing about the stories; the structure of MMORPGs is inherently boring; the characters are dry. Glad y'all like it, but I was thoroughly disappointed.
