I can't say I ever had a problem with Trico. I really didn't. I beat the 5 hour speed run with no problems. I still wonder what the hell am I doing differently to everyone else? Trico was fine for me. Can't say I had those problems. Game is certainly divisive, but I have to say, I absolutely loved it.

Honestly? I think it's just patience. I didn't do the 5 hour thing, but i totally get what you are talking about. I had no issues with Trico either... to me it just ''clicked'' when i started playing it just had the feel of ''Oh... the game is asking me to pull back and slow down" so i just did that and it just.... flowed. But i can totally see someone not working with the speed the game asks of you, and getting frustrated with.

+Daniel Mann To me, the main issue of TLG is not about the AI response but the close up camera angle issue of blocking view which happens more frequently compared to other games although no game engine out there is able to self correct this issue automatically. The apparent frustration of certain players over the AI in TLG is mirroring the frustration of certain players over the difficulty in Souls games - the AI in TLG is broken because Trico is not responding to commands. Demon Souls or Dark Souls is too hard and player character gets killed by minions easily even before meeting an apparent unbeatable first boss. Anyway, there were players who got to know how to play TLG or the Souls games the fist time and players who didn't got it the fist time but got it later and players who would never get it. The overall design on a simple 2D side scrolling platformer in the indie game Inside is indeed creative but I am more amazed by the technical wonder in TLG which cannot be found in any other games and that is my term of "fun" in playing TLG. It is obvious that both TLG and Souls series are not designed for mass appreciation in mind. From a business point of view, this is bad. However, I am not a businessman but a consumer who happens to appreciate these rare gems. Anyway, business is a harsh reality about money. There are many Souls copycats out there not because they appreciate the Souls design but the gradual rise of the market share. Too bad, Team ICO is not as fortunate as FromSoftware.

I don't know if people know this, but In The Last Guardian the boy can give Trico more than one command. R1 + x = Jump, R1 + Square = Attack, R1+ Circle = Go that way, R1+ Triangle = Directions / Come Here / get in hind legs. Hope this helps folks.

I think Ian's reason for not liking the game is pretty much tied to how he approaches games. If you don't want them to "waste your time" then you shouldn't play a pet sim. Because your dog/cat irl does not care what kind of time table you're on. If you try to hurry up through the game, you're just gonna get frustrated.

I didn't have the frustrations huber or Ian had. You have to not spam, you have to understand the commands, you have to take your time...I mean the game is possible to beat in under 5 hours without much trouble if you know how to do things, normally I'd just accept people having their own taste but I really do feel like with the last gaurdian some people just are not playing it right yes some animals learn things, but you just met this animal, and I really appreciated the speed of growth between the boy and trico. It was totally believable, and I definitely felt like I was rewarded for reading his body language, using the right commands, etc. I personally felt like I was very in tune with Uedas vision. Had very rare issues with Trico's AI and loved that Ueda didn't back down on his vision. As a true animal lover the amount of work that went into his animations, the development of that relationship; I even thought reading trico was an interesting layer on top of the sometimes pretty interesting and very well contextualized puzzles. I agree with Ben that at a few points there was almost intentional frustration baked in, even though I accepted the game for what it was and only had frustrations one or two times. Even little things like being able to pet blood stains off of trico was neat, I thought the story was amazing, I liked the sense of weight in the movement.....The only real problem I actually saw as a problem was the Camera of the game, which I got used to and it became a non-issue pretty quickly. A big part of the game for me, and a big part of the fun, was learning how to play without it being lined out. Realizing that you cant spam, and you cant just wait like Ian tried to do. You can figure out what the varieties of commands mean if you play around with them, etc....but I do think a lot of peoples frustrations come from literally not knowing how to play, which is a shame. I always love hearing his opinions on games, and it's always good to hear his love for games that he enjoys....big shame he didn't get it. I think they are missing what people find so great about the game too. It's scale, it's world, it's feel, everything but the camera was so good down to almost the smallest of details. Maybe it is just a patience thing, but most of its design seemed fully intentional to me and personally am glad and was amazed even while playing it and loving it that such a game was allowed to exist. one of my favorite games of all time; I dont see that changing with time.

Ian, I love you, so of corse I'm going to tell you that it's completely fine for you not to like The Last Guardian. The game just wasn't for you, I get it. But I would encourage you to reflect on these feelings of guilt that you have for not liking the game. If you're aware that you're feeling bad for not liking the game, I would ask you to consider that maybe its a sign that you could learn to be more patient, more empathetic, and more considerate as a person. For me personally, the game changed me- and in a lot of ways reaffirmed me as a person. It was a test of my patients to cooperate with another stranger; a test of my ability to empathize and get into the mind of someone completely different from me; most importantly it challenged me to care for another being other than myself, to take the time to learn how to communicate with them and to find satisfaction in the little moments where we were able to work together as one and care for one another. I think one of the most important the lessons TLG strived to impart on its players is the ability to CARE; something not enough of us do.
@VuTran-rb2pu8 жыл бұрын
The Last Guardian to me was simply a game about friendship. The game asks you to willingly be Trico's friend and to help him help you escape the valley.That is it. If you truly accepted the role of being Trico's friend, then you were rewarded with a turbulent yet an unforgettable adventure. By the end of the game, I found myself trembling at the thought of having to say good bye to Trico. I had gone through so much with him, experience the worse and best of aspects of my character at the mercy of both of our lives hanging on the line, and when the time came to it, I was willing to do anything to protect him- as he had done to protect me. At the end of it all, the moments of frustration I had with him seemed to melt away, and the only things that I could recall were the happy moments where we cared for each other. All of the janky camera movements and finicky control problems I had seemed so trivial and pointless to think about when Trico had just risked his life to safe my own. That, was what I loved about The Last Guardian. And that is something I will always be grateful to Ueda and his team for. For a brief moment in time, I truly believed I had a friend.

The Kingdom Hearts and Drakengard/Nier games are my favorite videogame series. I've 100%ed Drakengard 1, 2, 3, and Nier a couple times each (which is not the easiest thing to do...not that it's super hard, but maybe tedious. Also saying not to brag, but to state validity on my opinion). Immediately after I completed Drakengard 3, I went out and got a Drakengard tattoo. People used to pay me to log into their account and beat the last boss of Drakengard 3 for them. LOVE the series. I'm very happy Ben is going through the Drakengard games. He hit the nail on the head with Drakengard 3. The most important thing to me in games is story and the story through character interactions. It's interesting how all these games weave into one another. I highly recommend the Drakengard/Nier series to everyone. The world and lore are so magnificent. And holy moly the music is perfect. Order of release: Drakengard > Drakengard 2 > Nier > Drakengard 3 > Nier Automata PLAY THEM!
@J_Themborn8 жыл бұрын
What I love about the world of Yakuza is how much you interact with the world through NPC interactions as they introduce new mechanics and side quests have a different stories unlike most open world games where you just do the same mission in a different district, like one being your taking two 5 scooped ice cream cones to a family while dodging a crowded street, if you drop the ice cream you can give up or buy two new scoops which actually changed a bit of dialogue at the end of it and you never do that again in Yakuza 3 or any future game. I also love that the city gets more and more fleshed out as well each game giving you something new to do in the city Like singing, dancing, fighting, sane taxi, winter cabela, erotic ping pong, dating sim, Disco dancing, restaurants, pool, arcade games. Kamurocho has a sense of familiarity to the point of when I saw the karaoke joint was relocated or that a new one was built in Yakuza 6 that felt weird to me and I asked "what happened to the old karaoke place?" So if something changes it carries more weight than a third act in other open worlds where the sky is red and there's a riot or whatever cause the city is an important part of the series.

I remember him being positive about Undertale, Dear Esther, Gone Home and Proteus., which isn't really surprising considering how hipster/indie he tries to appear to be. I know he hated the ending of No Man's Sky and warned people about it, but I also remember him at one point saying something like it couldn't be criticized like other games because it was "an art game" which is one of the most asinine things I have ever heard. I think his opinions on games were forever lost to me once he said that. I actually do like the guy because I think he is occasionally funny, and he is like me in some ways when it comes to music movies and art, but based on his list of likes/dislikes, I think his taste in games is pure shit and nonsensical. Worst of all on show
@iliketuna93268 жыл бұрын
reading my last reply it seemed kind of harsh on Ian. As I said I do actually like the guy and enjoy him on the show, but to me it seems like he's extra favorable and forgiving/praising towards a lot games just for the fact that they are indie or try to be" an art game" (which for mysterious reason applies to No Man's Sky for him) compared to other more bigger budget big name games ( besides souls games).

Just finished the Last Guardian on the normal PS4. Loved it. I feel that the trust not only develops from Trico to you, but also from you to Trico. With time, I felt more confident in the commands that I gave to Trico, and Trico did things faster every time. Loved how he complains when he thinks that I was giving silly orders, or things that he does not feel confortable doing it. Such a scared creature he is. And yes, the framerate suffers a little on open areas, but nothing unplayable. Regarding the controls, that camera, god aweful, I don't understand why they have such a big deadzone in the analog sticks. All in all, for me, Game of the Year!

Some people on the internet seem to misconstrue Ian's attitude towards particular games as HATE, but it isn't... It seems to me like he just doesn't want to waste time on things that are, or at below the level of mediocrity. And the result is a person that only praises things he really loves and is passionate about. In the end, is that really THAT terrible? I don't think so. Love and Respect.
