I have never felt such emotions towards a cluster of polygons, genuine emotions, that I did for Trico in The Last Guardian. Not gonna spoil anything, but I was weeping my eyes out during so many moments during the game for so many different reasons. I don't think I will ever forget that game in my life. And it feels almost cheap to even call it a "game", it's so much more than that for me.

The Last Guardian is a masterpiece that i simply will never forget. I loved a lot of videogame characters over the many years of gaming but i never felt as much compassion & emotions as I did with Trico. I almost cannot believe he is fictional. Best game of this gen.

Me and my friends just had our own GOTY awards on our podcast recently and I was the only one who played The Last Guardian. I was so close to having this game win, but since no one played it, they felt it would be unfair to vote for it. I can understand that. DOOM won instead and I'm okay with that since it was the only game on our list we all played and there are things we do cherish about it so it fits as the collective winner. But man...The Last Guardian will always be the true winner in my heart and it warms my heart even more to have you guys appreciate it just as much. Thank you. Love. And. Respect.

I think Ben's mentioning of Fumito Ueda's quote really cemented my love for The Last Guardian even more- and really, all of their games. But especially in the case of The Last Guardian, I love the game for its uncompromising vision and meticulous attention to detail. Everything from the subtle animations to the way the characters communicate with each other through trust and understanding of their intentions, instills a bond unlike any other and truly makes the game an achievement to behold. It's not the kind of game that tries to immediately appeal to its audience, but rather slowly creep its way into the minds of the player to try to challenge our understanding of what games can be. For me, The Last Guardian succeeds in every way that its vision strived to achieve, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

what a breath of fresh air hearing those guys talk about the last guardian. This game amazed me time after time until the very end and some moments caught me completely of guard like when you get stuck on a pillar with trico and there is a door closed that you need to open by reaching the top of the building behind and walking through seams, eventually getting to this jump where by the decay of the environment the bar you grasp starts to fall down. In my mind I didn't know what to do next, I tried pulling up and moving around desperately until the game zooms in into trico and him knowing I was about to fall, Trico jumps under me, lands on the closed door and holds for dear life until I manage to open the door for him. The bond that you make with this fictional character is amazing and one that I probably wont forget any time soon. amazing frame tap from easy allies.

Blood, you summed it up perfectly at the end. There was nothing else like TLG before it, nor will there be another like it. I feel like you had to bond with the game's mechanics and controls in the same way that the boy had to bond with Trico, and that in turn also helped the payoff at the end feel that much more rewarding.

I just finished the game and WOW. That ending was amazing! I was convinced Uncharted 4 had the best ending this year but I think it was beat by the last guardian. I was on the edge of my seat shouting at the emotional scenes. If you havent beaten this game, even if youre frustrated with the controls, the pay off is 100% worth it.

What a big tasty bowl of pork belly ramen this episode was. There are hundreds of different things to keep talking about TLG for sure, but I'm glad you guys could give a meaty discussion for now. You know, comparing to the other content providers that I'm slowly backing off from supporting, who cares more about maintaining their shallow personalities instead of providing care over their words, or just consistently acting with dismissive pretentiousness, I'm really happy you guys are here. I have been saying this on almost every video, so I will stop. But yeah, great work. All the best to everyone on the holidays break and for an even better 2017.

1000% agree with Blood on TLG's controls. Don't understand the complaints at all. Archaic? Please, just because something controls differently doesn't mean it's bad. Games(especially action and adventure) nowadays have such sticky controls that it takes 0 skill to jump from platform to platform. You actually feel something at stake here for missing jumps and that adds a lot to the platforming you do in the game as the boy. Overall, completely disagree with the critics regarding the controls and "archaic" design.

Kyle, in Google Earth VR you can activate "human scale" (I think that's what it's called) in the options menu. When you have done that, you can go all the way down to street level as if you were actually there. It's very surreal. No need to crawl around on your carpet. Some of my favorite moments of TLG are the little things. Me telling Trico to jump in an area he can't yet, so he just jumps in place a few times. Or, when I'm climbing an area he can't get to and I look down and see him trying to figure out a way to get to me
@azsugar8361

I think not many people know how much more control you actually have in the last guardian because the game doesn't traditionally explain a lot of its mechanics. You see a few time that you can give Trico different commands with R1 and the face buttons but you have to figure out what each one does by yourself. There are mechanics that i can't imagine progressing through some parts without them but many people never knew about. One example is r1 and x will make Trico sit once he trust you and also will stop him from doing something you don't want. I ve started watching some playthroughs on YT and see some people get really mad at the game saying its broken but their issues were never a problem for me because i ve experimented and figure out the game mechanics as much as i could

When Ben mentioned the feeling of reading about games in Nintendo Power that you never played...I think that's what EA is for a lot of us now. With all of your podcasts and streams, I get to learn a ton about games that I may never have time to play. Though listening/watching you guys talk about these games isn't the same as experiencing them first-hand, it's still great to hear about genres I may not normally explore and gain an appreciation for some games I know I'll never even play. It's very cool. Thanks!

I remember my brother and I getting Dragon Warrior with a subscription to Nintendo Power. My brother played it religiously every single day. My dad would casually play it on and off. One day, my dad took a sick day and when my brother and I got home from school, he was in the midst of beating the game. IT CRUSHED MY BROTHER. To this day, like 25+ years later, my brother still won't forgive him for it!

Great discussion about Last Guardian. I think the main complaints about players who find Trico's AI cumbersome and like he doesn't follow commands just don't get it. The game isn't conventional, it's a meditative experience and requires you to just take your time and be patient. So many people that complain seem to want to just blaze through the game, commanding Trico and just have him respond exactly when and how they want. It's a shame those people miss the point of this whole thing. It's an amazing game, and afterwards I felt like I had to say goodbye to a pet I was briefly looking after.

I've been trying to get my dad into games my entire life. My sister and I would always make him play donkey kong 64 with us when we were kids, but we would never tell him the controls so we could beat him and I think that kind of turned him off from the idea, haha Also, shoutout to Kyle's ithaca sweatshirt! Don't know if this has already been said in the comments, but you got it right. "The Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood" anime is based on the story told in the Fullmetal alchemist manga, whilst the "The Fullmetal Alchemist" anime was losely based on the manga, but did its own different thing. It's kind of difficult to explain, but think of it as the original anime and the manga were two different stories told in like "parallel universes". So for instance in the manga, one character would be a bad guy with crazy abilites and stuff, whilst in the anime the "same" character would just be a regular dude (and also a good guy). But yeah, haven't seen brotherhood or the original FMA anime but I have read the manga and think i'ts absolutely amazing.

i waited to watch this till after i completed the game myself. Dude this game is a masterpiece, sure the controls are janky and the camera can be frustrating but the last guardian is outstanding. I think the highest compliment i can give it is that i genuinely cannot choose a favourite between this and shadow of the colossus. It says a lot that in 2016 which was the best year in gaming for at least a decade, a year that saw dark souls 3, uncharted 4, final fantasy 15 and more legendary games in their own right get released. The GOTY was still a relatively simple choice.

Hello Ben! I highly recommend Darker Than Black series, it's my favorite anime since 2007 and I'm still waiting for season 3 (which I know will never come :( ). It's about supernatural powers and espionage and it's a lot more grounded than the usual super-power anime, people see it more like a curse than a blessing and try to deal with it in their own way (same reason why I like Mushi Uta, but that anime didn't do well, like the novel though), the series is a bit dark and gloomy but can still somehow warm your heart at times when bits and pieces of love and faith seeps through the darkness that shrouds their existance. Sorry for the English, not a native speaker :) Oh and PAPA BOS IS THE BEST!!!!!!! My dad used to play DOOM in the 90's, but he's all against gaming since I went to elementary school and I can never bring up the subject with him now, hope he can change his views and try out games again one day :D

I'll gladly explain the reason why there 2 Full metal alchemist shows. When the anime first came out the manga was not far along in the story so when the anime caught up, instead of delaying the show they made up the ending which changed the whole world and explanations for many things. later when the manga was close to finishing they decided to bring the anime back and follow the original ending for the manga. Because they did not have to stall to give room for the manga, every episode is full of content and their are no filler episodes for the most part. Its almost fully accepted as fact that Brotherhood is the better anime and if you have not seen it like bloodworth said he hasnt i highly recomend you watch it. Its a little bit similar for the first couple of episodes but once you meet Lin, the anime changes completly and it is so worth it. I urge you all to watch FMA: Brotherhood please. It is one of if not the best anime ever.
