I am so glad that Hollow Knight got some spotlight from all three of you guys! Little things I really appreciated were: the sounds and songs characters made, the music in the areas (city of tears was incredible), the lore and the many secret areas! If I had one thing to critic then it would be some of the bosses(for example:Nosk had such a great introduction but had such a weak moveset) and the implementation of the free DLCs(fighting a boss 5 times with slight moveset variations didn`t feel right). But nevertheless Team Cherry really made a living and breathing world were I spent 40hours in and I enjoyed every minute of it! Kudos

Yakuza 0 songs are pretty good, especially Kuze's theme and the western ending song. A thing about choosing best soundtracks for me is that it can be difficult to choose ones from games you have played and games you haven't. Like, the songs are usually paired with a scene that best fits it, and if listened to alone without the context, it won't have as much of a connection despite it still being a good song.

Hollow night is a truly charming experience with fantastic game play, and stunning locales* dripping with atmosphere and deft artistry on every frame. I was playing Far Cry... 4? I think it was 4. I needed to get some carnivorous fish to expand some slot I had and I could not find them. I looked at the water for a minute and then started to leave when I walked past the body of a dude I shot on the way in. Picked it up and tossed it in the water to see if anything would happen. My brother was watching and he said it was a great idea, but he was sure it wouldn't work. Right then the fish showed up and started eatin' the dude. Made me dig the game a lot more. I love that kind of stuff.

With regard to the VR chat and why there isn't more of a push from sony. I can say, as a person who works in the video game industry. Expertise is a major factor. Its relatively new tech and a lot of us are still getting to grips with how it 1, works best and 2, how to effectively implement it into a pipeline that has for the most part stayed quite similar since 1997. Having studios like Sony SA develop there flagship IP with a VR aspect in tandem would be extremely disruptive. Both them and sony probs said. 'ok next time' and VR is going nowhere for the simple fact that outside of the consumer world its a game changer. It can literally revolutionize the way many people work. science, engineering, health care, the arts are all good examples. Video games is just he tip of what is really going on. expect big things once teething problems are gone. No wires, Screen that is clear glass when off, gloves for actual dexterity, switch to AR mode on the fly to name a few.

The Pokémon game I've always dreamed of is one where it is the same basic formula of red or blue except you control the Pokémon directly, with the 4 face buttons of the controller being your 4 Pokémon moves. Your Pokémon performance would depend directly upon your own skill, and if a Pokémon is super effective against you it could work as it always does with damage multipliers. And if you want to escape you can try running a certain distance away from the wild Pokémon. THIS IS GOLD POKEMON COMPANY, DO THIS PLEASE

Totally agree with Ben on the Resident Evil Revelations 2 endings thing. All the people I know including myself got the bad ending on the first time. And got super confused with how the story ended... But you don't have to play the entirety of episode 3 and 4 again to get the good ending. Just play the first half of episode 3, and then after the boss fight where you make the decision, go back to main menu, then go straight to the second half of episode 4, you'll unlock the good ending when you reach the end.

My favorite "They didn't have to do this" moment was in Pokemon BW2. I don't know exactly what triggered it (I think it had something to do with my trainer card's color rank), but at some point the nurses in the Pokemon Center recognized me and started referring to me by my name. The changed dialogue even shortened the amount of times I had to mash A to trigger the heal.

About the HotTaKe, to me the core of video game is the software not the hardware. Although the performance of the software does depend on the power of the hardware like some video game softwares relying on powerful hardware to run, there is also an amazing game software like Breath of the Wild which is able to run on a relative low power hardware. Personally, I am more interested in the improvement of software over hardware like the behavior of the enemies in Breath of the Wild for example - if an enemy got its weapon knocked off, it would look around for another weapon or pick up a rock or a nearby powder keg etc, or the enemy reaction towards sound, or showing curioristy when it saw something suspicious. In other words, I prefer to see more complex AI technology, physics (which allows something like following a message in a bottle flowing along a river in BOTW), chemistry or biology game engine improvement over something like VR, 3D or hologram. Indeed, software does depend on the computing power of the hardware but that is speed and memory not VR, 3D or hologram - video game hardware development should just focus on how to further increase the speed and reduce the heat, and put in more memories but cut the cost.

Ben, for the timestamps, write the order of everything and then use the Stopwatch on your phone, usually there's a LAP option for runners, where you just tap the button and it marks the timestamp and it keeps the stopwatch going, I think this will solve the issue of having to write down the time stamps.

Guys, guys, guys... Most of your VR conversation has already been outdated by a headset that has recently been revealed.. It's called Magic Leap it's had billions (yes, plural) of investment from massive companies such as Goolge and Allibaba. It's like Microsoft's Hololens but, what makes it different, is that it replicates the lightwave spectrum the human eye uses to identify physical objects in a physical space to trick your brain into thinking the the projected digital object is physically there. It's going on sale this year and, while not likely the watershed moment for VR (it doesn't look very cool and is certainly going to be expensive/niche), is certainly the next big step. Ben said he doesn't see VR overtaking physical television until the picture quality is better. I see it taking over when a virtual television is a small side feature of a device with a near unlimited set of use cases. (Early camera phones essentially killed the mainstream point and shoot well before the picture quality was anything above substandard.) It is also almost entirely wireless and it doesn't require you to shut yourself off from the outside world. Anyways, here's a link to Rolling Stone's article they published on the headset. www.rollingstone.com/glixel/features/lightwear-introducing-magic-leaps-mixed-reality-goggles-w514479 I hope you guys check it out! tl;dr: The "VR device" of the future has already been announced and is shipping this year. It's a mixed reality headset that essentially hacks your brain into thinking digital objects are present. It fixes many of the problems, the guys were contemplating, with VR.

When a game is an FPS, it's self-explanatory. Metroidvania is a game element that might not be obvious. It's like saying "this FPS has a lot of bosses" or "this FPS is very movement-focused". Then there's "this platformer is a metroidvania" or "this FPS has metroidvania elements".

On Pokemon, I think you guys are right. Between feeding beans, and cleaning, and the irritatingly intrusive story, I burned out by the end of the second island. If they were straight up like, "we're going back to basics on the raising of Pokemon, and going back to a more basic story so we can focus on making a cool world with interesting interactions," I would be elated. Granted, I haven't played any since Gold and Silver, but honestly, I thought Blue and Gold were so much better than Ultra Moon.

On my second playthrough of Persona 5 now, and I love that game. But man does Ryuji say shit or ass a lot... All jokes aside, kinda agree with the whole "second playthrough" thing from the mail... Sometimes just knowing makes me not wanna play a second time. The Fade from DA: Origins comes to mind, for me. On the other hand, I find myself multitasking even more if I play a second, or third time. Depends on the genres too, and I think time is a factor too... how long since you last played it etc.

Joly Ben already gave an extensive preview in a prior frame trap. It appears as though they didn't dig it as much as I did, though. I personally think it's far better than Persona 5, but what can ya do?!!

I know... It's sad they don't seem to care about it. I love it, despite all the little flaws.

redxix88 I really loved Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Especially the combat, it was the most fun and satisfying combat in recent memory.

Joly Really? Whats the combat like? I just got a Switch and am dying to expand my library. Super excited for Bayo 1&2 next month!

Have you played original Xenoblade Chronicles? XC2's combat is much more improved version of that combat. What I personally like about XC2's combat is how very satisfying pull those Blade combo and great visual feed back once you do. It make the combat fun and addicting.

I have faith in Blood to challenge Persona 5's candidacy for GOTY!

Can't bring myself to even give Hollow Knight a chance, the last proper Metroidvania I played was the demo of Bloodstained and I'm really hyped for its release, but don't want to get fatigued in the genre before it's release. Perhaps after BS has come and gone, I may give HK a chance but right now I feel it'll hold me off on a game I'm very excited for.

In regards to next-gen VR, particularly with Sony, the most plausible thing I would say is to not do anything. Think of it like: new gen, old peripherals. Improvements for the camera, the move or the headset should be sold separately and optionally, so that it never feels like a huge investment piecewise.

I am sick. I am lying in bed. I am getting a 3h ultra cozy episode. I am pleased. I live 5 walking minutes from my childhood home while my dad and my brother all live hours away. Feels weird man.
