I worked for Boss Game Studios in Redmond, WA 1999-2002. They were Boss Studios doing special effects for movies: such as Fright Night, Multiplicity, Ghostbusters II and one of the Batman movies. They switched to game production they said because everyone could do special effects and they had to move on. They were owned and managed by people from the UK. They were great to work with and I only left because a team I worked with at Sierra On-Line wanted me back. Boss Game Studios went out of business around 2003.

Then some @sshole thought it was a good idea to clone Ripley back to life and attempt to continue the story with a strange Art-House director even though Sigourney was visibly only doing it for the money. Ripley ends up with acid for blood, alien strength and agility and a human alien hybrid that cry's mama.... That is the true stuff of nightmares, not Alien 3.

Alien 3 gets way too much hate from fans who just want a repeat of Aliens with lots of action and happy endings. Fincher brought it back to it's claustrophobic horror roots and it's more true to the original than Cameron's vision. People are too shallow in their criticisms, the film is dark and fatalistic because it's meant to be a tragedy, it's like a stage play and most are oblivious to the masterful symbolism and themes present, it deals with some deep topics and the sacrifice motif at the end was the best way to send off the Ripley character. People really just wanted another action popcorn flick and it's too bad, this one had incredible cinematography and acting and feels true to the franchise roots, it's a horror film, of course it has an unhappy ending and characters you love die.

My main issue was the alien was too inconsistent as far as how it looked. Parts looked great when it was practical but others looked terrible on green screen. In the 3rd it shouldn’t look worse than the first two. I get it was sign of the times and they tried new things but is what it is. I also just didn’t like the whole prison thing either. Outside two of the characters, all of the prison characters kinda just annoyed me. It’s a film that has the potential to be great but fell short for the reasons in this video

I like the Theatrical Cut but I prefer the assembly cut except in two Scenes: The Aliens' birth (coming out of a live dog instead of a dead ox just hits harder) and Ripley's death (mostly because the music works better). Overall, the death of Hicks and Newt right at the start is a hard pill to swallow but once I get past that point, A3 is a very well shot, wonderfully dark Horror-Movie, featuring Actors all turning in good performances at least and an excellent Score. I really wish Fincher could get over himself and make a directors cut. I can understand being pissed off, but its been well over 30 Years. If I were him, this bad experience would feel like an itch I'd love to scratch and I would do something about it, especially if my name was still attached to it.

There is something special about the films from the 80s to the late 90s. Due to how primordial the CGI was by today's standards I'd say the films have aged really well due to the advanced prosthetics ,location work and puppertiering work. Terminator 2, Aliens, The Matrix and even Event Horizon. As for Fincher, the man deserves all the praise in the world for not only being able to get this film out as his debut but juggling the imbeciles at the Studio. His work following this only further proves his quality.

David Fincher’s films are a masterclass in style over substance, a carefully crafted illusion that mesmerizes with its aesthetic but falters under scrutiny. I want to call his work, terrible, of course, an exaggeration, but it’s a reaction born out of frustration with the relentless hype that elevates his every project to revered status. His movies are undeniably polished, meticulously designed to look strikingly “Fincher,” yet they remain trapped in their own glossy sheen. There’s a stillness, a coldness that permeates his work, a calculated mood that overshadows the narrative rather than serving it. Fincher’s meticulous direction, the carefully composed scenes, and the restrained performances often overshadow the story itself, creating a veneer that’s more about how the story is told than what it’s actually saying. His films are beautiful, yes, but in a way that feels choreographed to the point of sterility, lacking the depth and emotional resonance that elevate cinema from mere visual spectacle to something truly impactful. It’s as if the substance is sacrificed at the altar of style, leaving a lingering sense of something missing, a hollowness that keeps his films from achieving the kind of lasting, meaningful impact they so desperately strive for.

It really is. But he refused to do a directors cut 😅 don't blame him honestly. But thanks! I actually have multiple old CRT TV's that I run HDMI from my computer over to and then play from my editing timeline and record with an fx30 back through obs 😅 so it's actually all practical. You can see them behind me in the few studio shots I use!.

@@FrameVoyager Wow! Your practical effects turned out much better than those displayed in Alien 3 😅, keep up the good work!

Crazy that they worked so hard on the Alien puppet just for it to look awful in the end result.

I really enjoyed it at the time. Mostly because it offered another perspective. Now, with Romulus, I appreciate Alien 3 even more. The most Alien movie of them all… because you can sense, even when they don’t state it directly, that the COMPANY is the main villain through centuries….

I love this film. Much better than just ANOTHER shoot-em-up in space. It succeeds in it's sense of isolation and claustrophobia... Without a teaspoon of this, it's just not Alien. Best part: The way the music underlines Ripley's fall into the furnace. .. Absolute perfect. For me, the greatest musical moment in the franchise, second only to the moment after Vickers has torched Holloway in Prometheus... Just a second of beauty, a brief and long overdue ray of light. 🏆 Both Epic scores, truly

If anything, as a fan this movie has some hilarious lines to quote in daily life. 😂 "No ******* Icecream !!!"

Loved Alien 3. Look at the superb British casting, Brian Glover, Paul McGann et al. OK the Alien effects are dodgy, but it had a good concept of no weapons. The directors cut is much more of a story.

The alien puppet looks incredible. Too bad it doesnt look that great in the actual movie.

There should be another ALIEN film that happens on "Fury" 161. Where "the company" has decided to reopen the prison and has a "new" portion that still connects to the "old" section used in ALIEN 3. Then have a plethora of ANIMAL Xenomorphs wrecking havoc. It would be like the Dark Horse comics. Bulls. Lions. Gorilla. etc.

Alien 3 was better than Alien 2 and has dated better. It was more like the first film.No US gung ho Rambo in space bullshit .No painful 80s US feminist agenda and no shoulder pads.

IMHO, never got over the fact that Alien3 did not follow on from Aliens at all. At no time was there a chance for the queen to plant an egg/facehugger on the Sulacco - she'd left her egg producing sac behind on the planet. So no accident to the ship would have occurred and Ripley, Hicks and Newt would all have survived. Apart from that, Alien3 was all shot in steam and dark so it was difficult to know what was supposed to be going on. This video went a long way to explaining why it was as it was!

I hate this film for multiple reasons, but it’s a miracle that it wasn’t worse considering what went on behind the scenes. I’m glad that Fincher went on to have an amazing career. Some directors never recover from films that were ruined by studio meddling.

Still prefer Alien 3 to Alien Resurrection! The assembly cut is perfectly imperfect.

For me the series only had 2 movies. They are 2 of the best movies ever made imo.
