Or a male Kill Bill. Or Ripley. Frankly, it's not diversity I have a problem with, it's the cynical mindset of those behind the curtain who feel in a position to ethically educate us. Its the concept of corporate lecturing that's the problem, and Scott and Cameron were coming from the right place (as the latter was with Linda Hamilton). You can tell by how well the actors suit their roles (of which far too few are earnestly and effectively written for women ... the real problem). Honestly, when I saw The Hangover, I thought it was "bro" trash, and MUCH preferred Bridesmaids. Because, frankly, it was funnier and more sincere. I can share countless examples. What I always notice is that Alien is shot on much better film stock for dark scenes. The blacks are simply gorgeous in Alien. And the dynamic range is way more than I have ever seen on digital. Imagine if they put the same level of effort into making movies today.
@noth6062 ай бұрын
I think you have some peculiar definition of 'effort' that nobody else shares or even knows what it is. This was by no means a hugely involved project as far as movies go, there are ones where a smaller crew have put in a lot more not only own time and money but taken risks for, like the original Blair Witch Proj. Some of the Evil Dead, Dario Argento early stuff - heck even later things to some degree, and myriad others. Well, maybe the Blair Witch is a bad example since it was stupidly cheap to make so to speak, but my point is this was a movie where people got paid to make it, they had sets, they had a budget etc. A lot of the way it came out as the final creation was not 'in the script', parts were storyboarded on the fly more or less or not even storyboarded and shot on a whim. Again, not sure what you mean by effort. There was planning but bits were skipped entirely and others modified or partially scrapped, so it is kinda a side effect that it has some disjointed feel, it changed mid shoot with film in the can already. But in man hours modern movies largely dwarf Alien, because of the distribution and release cost today being bigger for anything going to theatres, anything going straight to streaming is made on a budget that makes this look like a blockbuster.

Having the alien bite Ripleys head off and sending a final message using her voice is just an astoundingly bad idea. There is nothing in the movie that suggests that the alien has that level of reflexive rationality, or even if it did, the knowledge of how to operate a human computer, let alone the ability to fake a human voice and understand an use human language to produce a coherent communication. WHy would it even understand communication or computers its only life experience is the ship and it was never in near a computer. It seems grossly implausible, inconsistent and goes against the whole fundamental idea of the creature and the rules of the universe of the movie. I cant fathom how scott would see this as an even remotely viable idea.

But thats not the point. The point is that that it flies in the face of everything else the movie does and everything that makes Gigers creature work and there is no narrative poignancy to the idea it’s just a generic attempt at a monster movie sting in the tail kliche.

@@N.SLASH.A honestly it's so confusing combing through some of this footage and what's labeled or mislabeled and a lot of wild stories. It might have been that chestburster puppet. Tried to stick to what we could at least corroborate with multiple sources. But yeah, the ash thing was pretty interesting

That was one hell of a Video! Thanks. I love Scott's early use of the smoke machine for ambient backgrounds and think it is so much cooler than people curren using those 'glimmer glass' 'black pro-mist' filters to soften up the look of their oversharpened footage from their 2024 hybrid cameras.

It's too bad that the Alien franchise suffers from Sequelitis more than most iconic films. Though the first two are certifiably classics, everything after that have been pale retreads, including Romulus.

I remember Sigourney's Beauty made me fear for her life even as a kid. And that she was the only sane character in that madness of a movie. I also remember looking for the same facial characteristics when searching for a new girlfriend. Which left me single for a long time. In other words: I fell totally for her :)

I married her. She was the perfect, flawless wife. Then she turned on me. The TWO faces of Sigourney Weaver reveal the madness of her sanity.
@WanderfalkeAT2 ай бұрын
@@jackreacher. If that is even true: Revealing that without the reason WHY she turned on you might be a giveaway? Or you still don't know... I have found such a beautyful Girlfriend with an amazing character, and a long time I asked myself why it ended. 10 years later I know every little reason why. Digging in the reasons why she did what she did from her standpoint helps! A big reason for her was that I did not want a kid too soon and that I did not apprechiate her enough, rather spending my weekends with my friends than her later on. That helped me to get her out of my head and find annother beautyful person where I did not repeat my former mistakes.

@WanderfalkeAT She was ''Opra-fied''. Marxist covetousness seized and reformed her mind.

@@jackreacher. So, you were the US President in the movie "Dave"?
@jackreacher.24 күн бұрын
@@kiwitrainguy ... the metaphor and archetype are used in figurative speech to convey an idea. Yes, I was the US President. Yes, Sigourney portrays antagonist women. My loving ex-wife is a clone of these archetypes. ''The 3 Faces of Eve'', hints at her disorder.

I would never trade Sigourney for any other potential Ripley, not in a million years… but I never knew Genevieve Bujold was in consideration. She’s always been one of my favorites, in addition to being one of my first boyhood crushes (Jenny Agutter was another). I would like to visit that alternate universe for roughly two hours. And Helen Mirren got to fly in a spaceship a few years later.

I enjoyed that You don´t hide behind a big a$$ microphone. You just sound as good as the others who do. I just bought a Sennheiser ME20 on a K30AV body- it´s awsome! I went to a live venue with it and my MiniDisc recorder- although it was mono it sounded great, good bass response, very clear, quite bright, very natural. I just paid 30 schekel, an absolute steal. These old mics can be really cheap because they need a weird battery format/voltage. But the type 4LR43 fits in length and a little sticky tape corrects thickness. It´s a 6v cell but the mike don´t mind, Sennheiser used a 5,6v cell. Well, this has nothing to do with the movie- I´m just so happy with my purchase because I plan to use it for internet broadcasting. Kind Regards, have a nice day- maybe try out an old Sennheiser😉?

@@FrameVoyager Neumann... another big name that I can´t possibly afford. I tinker around with and collect old sound/music equipment- but really I´m glad that You picked up this very different theme. Yes, all those people out here showing off them big Shure mikes, hiding behind- they annoy me so much. Right after them come the lavalier holders with the fuzzy windscreens. My point is: at my end, even if I play thru my stereo, they (you) all sound the same. I envy You that Neumann but it´s in good hands and use, looks elegant. And You made a nice summary, Alien was scary to my as teen. It did its job well and Ms Weaver was a whistle girl those days. Kind Regards and thanks

I always thought the ash character, especially once he's a disembodied head finally telling them the truth, was a call-back to the frozen captain of the dark star... thus o'bannon's riff. so that was a revelation- thanks!
