100% agree. Don't stop detailing out the details. Makes it an experience. All your future renters will appreciate it, and of course you get to feel satisfied your whole life you didn't cut corners by adding corners. :) Also, is that a new multi-use-kleeman-utility-axe? Pry bar, finish hammer, sledge hammer, micro adjustment tool, demo claw... if only it could cook eggs too.

Cap’n you are totally correct… there is one person who always knows the truth about your little fibs. That is why I always begin each internal conversation… “So I say to myself, SELF…”! It’s like a reckoning, a dose of reality and an intervention…. All rolled into one ‘Point if KNOW Return’. And often a bit humbling too… You are lucky to have Airborne National Guard in your area. Those overhead displays are impressive. Our Army National Guard are Engineers. They have a lot of earth working equipment. I can’t fathom how much equipment they have. But, I can marvel at how unique it is. Every single piece is over built and tricked out with features that civilians can’t afford or… would never need. For example… how many Water Tanker Trucks come with water heaters plus both suction and pumper units built in? Now about that circular band… the details do indeed elevate a build. And that is just one of many you’ve incorporated, so far. It is looking splendid and can hardly wait until I see all of them in person!

Hi Mike. You swing a mean axe! It will be interesting to see how your glue-lam comes out. It seems pretty simple in principle but it can be tricky to get two glued surfaces to stay where you want them. I am excited about the special errand of running to the P.O.! Glad you are the one doing all that laminating in-situ! Don't forget: you will need a lot more clamps (top and bottom) than you think! especially in circular forms! Just take your time, that way problems are easier to catch and repair than when everything dries out crooked! That is why I don't even attempt things like that now, just prefer easier projects. My age may have a lot to do with it, but you have yoof (lol), (sound effect here) on your side, and considerable, skill acquired from different projects over the years. As always best wishes, Happy Christmas to all, and look forward to next update. From UK.

To help with the counter sink... take scrap plywood a few inches square, hole saw it thru,center that over the imbeded bolt with a couple drywall screws, remove the bit from the center of the hole saw, the guide hole in the scrap piece will prevent the pilotless hole saw from wandering around. And then Bob's ur uncle😅

Okay, regular comment. That's pretty cool, having built exactly one spiral staircase opening, and having my "admiral" tell me that she wished the opening was round, and having told her I did too, but that it was beyond my skill level because, well, math, so square it was. (But I can add and subtract fractions, so there's that.) Thanks for the video, take care.

Thanks for sharing Capt'n!

MIKE, watching the video, just makes me wonder if you could make a circle jig the size you need to fit the opening off site,... laminate all the plywood around it, THEN drop it into place securing it to the treated lumber. Mike I like your ideas, you MAY want to see if you can get ahold of a plywood called "Bending Burch" it's 3/8" thick. I would use it when I would make wooden cylinders. It come in 4x8 sheets. Its great for making curves I would use 2 wraps around to get the smooth effect. I don't think the box stores supply it but a good lumber yard will.
@jimurrata67853 күн бұрын
AKA "wacky wood" can be got in 4x8 or 8x4. (Never seen it in birch, but...)
@user-fr5fz6vv6z3 күн бұрын
@@jimurrata6785 I just called one of my distributer, they refer to it as bending Luan. We would also get a sheet of 1/4" that had a skin of birch that would be very bendable. It looks like some Home Depot just might sell it.
@jimurrata67853 күн бұрын
@user-fr5fz6vv6z I'm sure that's the name, but if I go to my supplier and ask for wacky wood they just ask me "which way?" I can get door skins that are luan with one face birch but they are thinner than 1/4". There's also Italian bending poplar that comes as thin as 2mm, but that's mostly for tight curves in furniture and cabinets with radiused corners.

I know you are going to do it your way Mike but I thought I might give you a helpful hint to get a perfect round boarder/perimeter . Lay a board across the center of your opening and find the center, put a screw there and attach a string to that screw and go to the center of your 2x12 boarder and that will determine your perimeter and mark that spot on the string then put that string to the corner and the mark will give you a perimeter mark to put a 2x12 across the corner and the will give you a nailing point for your lam boards ( it will give you 8 points to nail instead of 4 points ) plus it will
