Do it. I've been working in open C and its 7string variant for a couple years and... for me it was a one way ticket. If you won't like it you can just change back but if it clicks for you... man is it awesome.

I don t think Devin uses “tradicional” open c, I believe it is C-G-C-G-C-G. Anyways, i agree on experimenting with tunings a way of finding new places’

I play a bunch of different turnings between 6 to 8 strings but open C is definitely a favourite to break things up. The fact I love Deb probably helps though 😁

I've got put the Devin Fishmans in my Kiesel Vanquish and they are easily my favorite active pickups I have ever had in a guitar. They literally work for any genre I wanna play. The real made in Germany Stormbender is a dream guitar of mine

I've had the version with the Devin Townsend Fishman pickups preordered/pre-payed since March of 2020...was a terrible time to preorder...with the release of this version with the Framus pickups IDK what's going on with the other version. I haven't gotten any kind of tangible answer from Framus DE, Framus USA, nor my dealer.

Interesting to hear a demo of the Framus pickups, I went with the D-series that offered the Fishman pickups since if i'm gonna get a Devin guitar why not have the version that at least has his signature pickups!

I have the Team Built model Stormbender (Germany). I’ve had it since they were offered. It’s a really really well made guitar. Plays like butter weighs a fuck ton though. Makes a Les Paul seem like a basswood in comparison.

Ola! Devin (while in Strapping) used a Mesa Triple Rectifier, boosted with a distortion pedal.. But, yes. He always used an EMG 81 and 81-7.

@@DevilsAdvocate92 I don't mind a Chinese made guitar these days. It isn't 1998 anymore and guitars really aren't all that complicated to build. A German made example of the Stormbender (the one that Devin uses) is like $7000 or something so it's really a no-brainer. People can't afford $7000 for was is mostly, by weight, just a piece of wood.

To all metal heads out there! I'm not a heavy player at all, more on the clean side normaly, but... This open C tuning caught my attention. Do i need to get a special set of strings or just tune the "normal" ones to an open C? Btw. Even i'm not into jugging, Devin Townsend is one of my heros and i watch Ola's channel from time to time cause it's really fun. 🤘

I’ve drooled on guitars in the past, but unapologetic about it, usually. One time it happened at a Guitar Center back in the ‘90’s - when you can still audition and purchase a decent axe there. It was a nice Les Paul. Got it under the strings so wiping it down required loosening them a bit.

The difference in high gain tone could also be picking technique. Devin talked in an interview years ago about how he uses large triangle picks and picks pretty aggressively.
