To those saying "The chain-link fencing was useless" .... It actually did it's job. The chain-link fencing was there to prevent blast projectiles from flying off in various directions. It kept the blast material compact with minimal escape and guided the rubble safely down the hillside.

We use chain link heavy duty mesh underground in areas where the rock mass wants to play a game of " squash " . It does it's job for the applications .
@EzeePosseTV4 жыл бұрын
Yep, you be amazed how strong chain-link mesh can be. lol
@bullzeyez32364 жыл бұрын
The chain link is to stop pieces of rock from rifleing out from the blast at a high velocity. It is not there to stop anything from falling with gravity. Without the fence , the initial blast can send small pieces faster than bullets towards unwanted targets. Usually in more horizontal blasts , large mats made of tires are used.

We have a rock wall along a stretch of highway, thy attach these chain blankets to direct any falling rock, works quite well. I thought they were a joke at first. There are now several nasty rocks at the bottom that would have made it to the road. Had no idea, pretty cool

Where do all those tunnels lead , and what is all that huge weird looking equipment that is in the middle under the biggest rock around 7.37 ? and also over to the bottom right there is big pipe coming out of the earth , along with the white pipe on the top left. I can see it might have been a dwelling ages ago according to the rock walls and entrances. Just wondering if you might know.

Actually, Yes it Would have fallen on it's own. It had come loose and started to crack and move, so rather than wait until it randomly fell down, possibly killing someone, they closed the area and knocked it down.

The bit they've left looks just as precarious
@Don.Challenger4 жыл бұрын
Yes, to the left and right from the camera's point of view there are what seems just as hazardous/precarious outcroppings, it would be interesting to have had a drone survey of that general area to establish why that one was chosen when it appears from the last section - the aftermath - that a river, a trail - on our side of the water course - and fields were seemingly the only things in direct jeopardy (was it fear the entire outcrop threatened to dam the river - it seems there is a plenty big enough flood plain that would have to be blocked off - it would just flow around even that blockage). Obviously, some civil engineering rationale that isn't documented here explains it. Here men are but ants is another way to interpret it.
@MrDrewthat4 жыл бұрын
Do you know why they did this??
@crygo9743 жыл бұрын
Nah, as you can see the fracture from which the block detached was already present, the explosion is just a 'push' to make fall the unstable block. Rocks in general have a very high shear stress resistance if there's no other fractures or eventual cracks that could allow water infiltration

@PhilJonesIII4 жыл бұрын
It was in danger of falling. All mountains are unstable and bits fall off all the time. We are a little better at predicting which bits. You can let them fall off which can cause untold damage or, remove them in a more controlled way.

@@bullzeyez3236 I am familiar with flyrock, I just wonder why it was seen as a problem in what looks like an uninhabited area. Are there structures nearby?
@bullzeyez32364 жыл бұрын
@@josephastier7421 It's hard to say if there are any structures as the cameras never pan in that direction. I do see a road just below. I have have done quarry shots with an 80 foot face , we don't use mats on the vertical face and I have seen bowling ball sized rocks travel 1/4 of a mile. Perhaps they just wanted to keep the road clear. I also just noticed the river at the end of the video. It's possible they were trying to slow down the flow of the debris from filling up the flow of the river.Although some large pieces made it in.
