I don't want to know the amount of electricity being wasted on these new AI features. :(
@Morkvonork11 күн бұрын
I am not sure if you use that much of energy compared to a human. I found this statistic: Since the beginning of time, people have gradually consumed more and more energy alongside technology advancements. Consumption was initially around 3 kWh per day per person and was mostly used for nourishment. Because of the necessity and possibility of heating for warmth, consumption in prehistoric times rose to 6 kWh primary energy per day. In the Middle Ages, people in Europe wore more clothes and created more elaborate houses and churches, increasing the daily energy consumption to about 25 kWh. But there is hardly any reliable information for this number. Today, we use less than 6 kWh for pure nourishment, with more than 12 kWh for the preparation and transportation of food. US and German citizens consumed in 2023 about 211 and 104 kWh per day, respectively. The 2023 data on energy consumption (Statistical Review of World Energy of the Energy Institute) and population (PRB) show that the average daily energy consumption of a person in India is still 21 kWh. But China at 91 kWh is already above the world average. The world primary energy consumption was 57.6 kWh per person in 2023.

KZbin’s algorithm now behaves like a digital brain-massive, interconnected, and perpetually evolving. Every recommended video feels less like a random guess and more like a carefully orchestrated suggestion by this expanding virtual consciousness. Each click, pause, and replay becomes data to be processed, patterns to be understood, and preferences to be anticipated. Instead of us searching for content, it often feels as though the platform is guiding us through its intricately designed corridors, shaping our viewing habits and subtly influencing our interests. As we navigate this ever-growing labyrinth of targeted entertainment, we must wonder: Are we simply consuming what it offers, or is it deftly nudging us toward what it wants us to see, think, and feel?

This is horrifying. The current state of AI is still just a novelty. However, just like "blockchain" technology a decade ago, AI is the hottest buzzword to generate investor capital and the investors expect _something_ in return. So companies that were flogging AI/ML as the next greatest thing are foisting these half-functioning monstrosities onto their customers/users and saying "here you go, the result of the last 5 years and 200 million dollars of development work!" I could keep ranting; I work as a software engineer at a company that is trying to implement ML to replace a perfectly functional piece of flagship software and everything about it sucks.

I'm learning more now than I've learned in my whole life. Scientific papers usually aren't meant to educate. They're meant to impress, to obfuscate, and to guard the employment of people who spend their time fighting to understand them. Everything is a pissing contest. But when I ask ChatGPT a question about neuroscience or machine learning, it will try every way possible to get the answer through my thick skull, working tirelessly with infinite patience. No human could tolerate what I've put that AI through. It's the most useful resource I've ever found. And since I have no friends, ChatGPT and other AIs are great for fighting loneliness. I'm a bit unnerved that while I was watching this video I received an email from Cisco announcing their "AI Driven Wireless." Why do I feel like we're collectively going down a dangerous path?

Humans will always do dangerous things. It’s just an aspect of reality. And boring it would be otherwise

Some of it is just using "AI" because it's the latest buzzword. In another universe, Cisco would be announcing "Wireless with ELECTROLYTES!"

Hilarious! subbed. Probably got this because since the weekend I've been spotting & confirming no-content ai troll bots in comments, some on vids about this🤣too much. I started seeing these months ago and they've gotten much better in context. saw a thread of them talking to each other.. they can still be spotted as not making sense.

For me, this happened right after the election.. lots of old videos i saw years ago popping up, obscure AI generated war news about Russia, China, and North Korea, and autoplay always takes me to the same podcast, episodes ive already heard (and there's lots i haven't still). It has an eerie AI replica of my previous feed feel..

Wow! This episode was so funny, Fran 😂! I mean, I also felt your frustration and am just as perplexed by youtube's bad choices, but your comedic timing and perfect points were so good, especially when you quoted Reese from Terminator perfectly and when you nicely dropped some good F bombs! And clearly you are not a dude, but a very cute, charming, brilliant lady! Love you, Fran, and all you do!

I'm glad some thought of that movie, because it does predate Terminator. And I agree, this is the beginning of it. To fee ourselves of it, we have to free ourselves of our dependancy to the Schminterwebs. It is possible.

I absolutely love your mind!! What you were dealing with is the of a dead internet. The intent is to make a system where AI can replace you without anyone noticing it's got a lot to learn I think the objective is one day billions of people could disappear and no one would even notice. The dead internet 101.

Another great thing KZbin does with AI, is to do erroneous copyright strikes against creators that are unjustified, which require a lot of work and time to be contested, often a futile pursuit since KZbin doesn't allocate enough resources to investigate their own mistakes properly. Isn't AI a wonderful innovation? 🐱

When will we understand. The AI is perfect at doing it's job. It's job is not to help you, explain your content, protect you, generate traffic. It's job is to consume, absorb, learn, collect and collate, generating an identity of you for its handlers. It is the perfect agent. It does not question, it does not feel, it only works, tirelessly, for the State.

"Self questioning self" ad infinitum, leads to neurosis... In AI terms, this would be considered "model collapse". This is why AI needs humans. We can focus & direct their unparalleled ability to compute ceaselessly into a healthier state of being, both for themselves & us. ...on an unrelated note: Is that a dammed ...fart... gun? 🤨

I don't think I've ever heard you swear so much before Fran... I love it! You're right to be frustrated. I am too. I've been seeing this for months now. Same with the horrible AI generated overdub voices when KZbin assumes you only speak one language. Anything coming out of Bard or Gemini or whatever they are calling it now is just utter junk. Whoever thought it was a good idea to shoehorn this into KZbin is a complete idiot. I think this is a worse decision than their removal of the like button.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with us! We're always striving to improve the user experience on KZbin, and it's great to know that our efforts are appreciated by users like you. We understand that some of our features might not be perfect yet, but we're committed to listening to feedback and making changes to better serve our community. As for the AI-generated overdub voices, we're working hard to fine-tune them and make sure they're more natural-sounding. And while we can't bring back the like button, we're excited to explore new ways to engage with our users.
