Tournaments today are just weaker than they were. Skilled fighters but seems focus is more on winning than fighting. Any given fight check the time spent with actual combat compared to the amount of time doing no combat. Commentator says karate has developed; yes but the essence has seemed to water down.

La forme qu'a pris la compétition était présentée il y a 25 ans comme le prix à payer à l'olympisme (objectif déjà contestable en lui-même), hors à quoi assiste-t-on ici ? Des simagrées déjà difficiles à supporter pour les pratiquants et dont on n'ose à peine imaginer l'image qu'elles envoient aux non-pratiquants, des protections surabondantes qui ont supprimé toute espèce de recherche d'efficacité, des coachs et une armée de mexicains à la table d'arbitrage qui font ressembler chaque combat à un concile en délibération, des combattants qui n'ont aucune tenue, et tout ça ...sans olympisme ! Ca valait le coup d'envoyer s'affaisser le karaté de compétition là où il est aujourd'hui...Désolant.

The most stupid thing is: as a professional sportsman you prepare months for one competition (Europe, Worlds). And judges can't see the obvious. After the replay it turns out that there was a point after all..... And the most frustrating thing is that in such cases only you can influence the decision and ask to examine the video. If you have no more attempts, and the point was still there - then I'm sorry, we didn't see it.... Like for me, as a karate sportsman in the past i feel it so sad, that you invest your money, time, energy and after all you just don´t become the points, cause judges had not enough sleep... Why are there no penalties for the judges? Why professional people can´t rate professional performance well?
